Welcome to Green Leaves, our Natchez dream home! You know we love historic architecture, but this home takes that love one step further. This home has been owned by 7 generations of the same family, and contains seven generations of love and tangible family memories.
Purchased by the Koontz family in 1849 this home retains all of its original finishes. Wallpaper, carpets, draperies and furnishings remain as they have been for 180 years. Each generation has added to the art and ephemera collections, and now Green Leaves feels like a warm family home with museum worthy collections.
The treasures found in this historic home don't stop at the interior. The grounds are some of the most beautiful in the city, featuring a wide variety of specialty Camelia bushes, each mapped and marked for its genus, species, and location of acquisition. Off the large galleries on the front and rear of the home are enormous live oaks, and magnolias, which shade the croquet lawn and the first residential swimming pool in Natchez.
There are historic homes, and then there are historic dream homes. Join fifth generation owner Ruthie as she opens her home and shares her family treasures and memories with you.
You can visit Green Leaves in person from now until the end of April, 2023. Green Leaves is a private home, and normally closed to the public, however, it is open for Spring Pilgrimage tours and tickets can be purchased at natchezpilgrimage.com

I toured this home in 1990s. An older lady was so funny. When John Ford came to town to look at sites to film the movie, The Horse Soldiers. He wanted authentic-looking uniforms and was told that Green Leaves had some originals. But the matriarch said no to John Ford on borrowing the uniforms for the costume designer. Finally, Ford sent John Wayne. JW heard the old matriarch enjoyed an afternoon toddy. So he brought some sort of liquor and he hey visited all afternoon. An interviewer once asked John Wayne if anyone had ever drunk him under the table. JW said that the only person who did was a little old southern lady in Natchez, MS. I can’t remember if Ford got to see the uniforms or not because I love that a little old Southern lady held her liquor before him!

I'm only 8 minutes and 2 seconds into the video and I am gobsmacked! I can't even imagine living in a home that's been in the family since 1839! By the time I was 11 we moved about 40 times and lived in 2 different countries back and forth. To have all the family belongings is absolutely amazing!!! It's BEAUTIFUL! Keep bringing videos like these.

Green Leaves is one of my favorite houses in Natchez. I have toured it many times over the years, and I learn something new each time I visit. This video doesn't even begin to cover all of the history and family memorabilia. It is an incredible chapter of Natchez history, and so well-preserved. A must see while visiting Natchez during Pilgrimage.

It is well taken care of, but it still has that family lived in feel. It is amazing that the original family still owns this house. Which to me, makes it a historical, living, family tree. Just the stories she has told here tells a history. She is so charming and gracious. Thank her from all of us, for allowing us in to her home.

What a treat to have been afforded the opportunity to tour Green Leaves in this video. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. My partner and I just bought our 2nd. Greek Revival. The 15-bedroom home, known as The Brady House (not that Brady house) LOL, was built in 1827. Our first, an 11-bedroom home was built in 1947, which we painstakingly restored and then sold. The Brady House is a keeper. When we first saw the ad for it, my partner said, "The Realtor really knows how to hype a house". It really was the gem of rare beauty depicted by the Realtor, despite its current state. We learned so much from our first purchase, and now we find ourselves starting all over again, facing new challenges and learning new things -- a never-ending journey of discovery. "What did we just walk into?" was my first question of this much older home steeped in history. We stumped Google with some our questions lol. Listening to your narrative of Green Leaves gave us some good pointers. Thank you for sharing this wonderful and enlightening tour.

This really is a time capsule, and the documentation they've accumulated is impressive. So many Americans have lost their family treasures and histories along with their homes. Many of us have too much 'old stuff', but hope to keep the most memorable. In the cabinet at 5:40 there is a ceramic figurines of a little boy in a blue sailor suit on the left of the top shelf. I have one very much like it, that was part of a set from my father's childhood in the 1930s. The set had four little sailors, four soldiers, and four little pilots with WWI style helmets, goggles, and scarves. The true pleasure in learning about the Koontz family history is knowing there is another generation waiting to take over stewardship of this home.

Green Leaves; Wow! Ms. Ruthie Coy; Wow! The best history always comes from those who have lived it, share it, and/or maintain it. Now, this is a true historic house! What an outstanding domicile of multi-generational antiquities and historical collections from actual residents, along with familial living archives! Wow! I could spend hours in this house because so much of its past is there. This time, L&K, I ignored that man in the mirror and china cabinet glass door as per your previous suggestion. 😂😂 I really enjoyed this tour. Walking through that house made me feel like I was in the past visiting it's residents because all of their things are still there. Fabulous video, y'all! Thank you!

I find the straight lines and Columns of Greek Architecture most appealing in it's Clarity. It is enhanced by variations of White to Cream, giving a fluid clean desirable presence. Greek Revival also offers immense Value of presence, strength, and beauty. I searched for the subject and this home came to surface. The Britton and Kuntz Bank also was built in Greek Revival I suspect G-Grandfather Kuntz had a Passion for Greek Architecture. The shadow on the the 19th Century was a misguided idea of any variance in Human value, the vessels for Souls to Journey are by the Right of the Soul, all Equal. The Light on that Century came through the changes that have resulted in the Realizations occuring today: "Few may not control the many, the mass Public Collective, the true Energies, Infinite Intelligence, that keeps us in our Secure Balance in this Universe know when it's time to bloom into our Higher Mind's, into our Higher Self. It's a true path thru History to have maintained a 5+ generation's Family Home. May they continue in Wisdom and Wellbeing. Peace be with you .. ⚜️

Oh, that beautifully ancient live oak in the garden is magnificent! I hope they are able to keep it going for many more years to come. I'm so happy the original builders didn't cut it down and chose to build around this amazing creation of God and nature. Original wallpaper, fauxbois, seven generations, original carpeting in the parlors, a bullet hole in the original glass above the front door, what a true treasure to behold! The china on display is outstanding. To have such a beautiful set displayed in its entirety is just lovely. I'd be afraid to eat off of it for fear of damaging it in some manner. Also love the cane chairs in the dining room in such great condition for their age is incredible. I so want to see more of this glorious house/mansion/treasure!
