I'd skip Gion, personally. Unless you're going to a tea house, it's pretty inwardly focused. Just across the river is more interesting. Nijo castle is definitely a must see, though. Also, the view from Kiyomizudera is fantastic and highly recommended. Nishiki market is a great place to check out as well.
@@user-bc2vv5km3f i don’t know where you went but there are great places like the tori gate mountain then the monkey mountain golden pagoda geysha district then castel and palace also many zen gardens and night life is good too just ask locals where is good and also fire ramen must go restaurant
Yes its overcrowded everywhere and I am here right now and I am so disappointed in it. It does not look in real life like its pictured on social media.
Was there the last three days. Went to bamboo grove at 7:30, and there were people, but wasn’t overcrowded. Went to the shrine with the gates at 6:45, and we were basically all by ourselfs half of the hike, and if not alone, max 2 or 3 people (especially the second half of the hike). Gion and the other tourist spots however, we did during the day, and was absolutely packed and overcrowded.
