After having a quick play earlier this week in a wet patch of ground with the unloaded Mecalac site dumper on the Moorend 4T Track System, we decided it was worth really putting it to the test.
In this video we have put the 2 ton Mecalac tracked dumper up against a 3 ton wheeled Thwaites site dumper to demonstrate the benefits of the 4 track system over wheels. We just wanted to show how well the tracked system copes on wet, muddy ground and manages to continue travelling where wheeled vehicles cannot.
We accepted that this little experiment might make a mess, but fortunately the land owner had no issues with that!
If you would like any further information on the tracked Mecalac site dumper or 4T Track System please give us a call on 07535211338 or email sales ncdequipment.com/ and one of the team would be very happy to help.

I love how people don’t understand the concept, no it’s not an average site dumper and it’s not going to put up with average site dumper abuse. Iv been on jobs where this would have been a brilliant bit of kit. They do look a bit fragile and would have to be driven with care to the tracks but definitely very usable.

The tracked dumper seems to carry the load very high off the ground which is very dangerous for vehicles like this that are infamous for toppling over. A wider track might be necessary if one choses this solution.

The dumper on tracks was a high tip swivel dumper so it sits higher already, the tracks actually make it a lot more stable than when it was on wheels. We tested this in some pretty awkward terrain and I would go tracks any day.

@@NCDEquipment I understand it has a swivel dumper which raises the centre of gravity compared to a standard setup, but from what I see, if we had 2 identical vehicles both with swivel dumpers, one on wheels and the other on tracks, the vehicle on wheels would be slightly shorter in height, thus having a lower centre of gravity. Anyway, these are just observations from watching a video and I'm sure you guys thoroughly tested this setup.

How do the tracks stand up at the opposite end of the spectrum, in a dry rough construction site filled with chunks of concrete and hard gravel.

Of course they wont show it they want you to spent the money on track

Tracks are better for traction wheels are better for uneven terrain.
@NCDEquipment

they stand up really well, unlike a traditional tracked dumper where you have to screw around to turn on the hard ground that rips the tracks apart, this being articulated you don't get that as you are turning through the articulation. Also with this design, you can take the tracks off and have the wheels back on it within 3 hours, so you are utilising one machine through all sessions.

Different components for different applications...if you used wheels on pavement it would be more fuel efficient and more comfortable than tracks.

Why didn't you pull the wheeled dumper out and drive the tracked one back through the ruts ?

Come on, as if any wheel dumper has ever been driven that slowly. Every driver Ive ever seen would have been going so fast they would have floated over that soft spot.

It's not really a contest and these are tire replacement type tracks the more conventional 2 vehicle length track set-up that most tracked vehicles have are even more effective showing that nothing has been able to compare to tracks when it comes to traction
@jamescampbell7780

Surely the area of the track footprint keeps it from getting bogged down. So is this a fair comparison?

Kind of the point of tracks vs tires comparison
@robertbrawley5048
@robertbrawley5048 3 года назад
No it's not a fair comparison. O course the tracks will out preform the wheels but the Wheel will out preform on more solid ground/pavement. I'm not even going to watch the video
@NCDEquipment
@NCDEquipment 3 года назад
Yes, you are right and that is the point of the video it to show how the tracks can float over the wey ground. The tracks are an alternative to having wheels, you could not use the wheeled dumper on ground which is as wet as this but with the track option, you can utilise the dumper to do many applications. The way these tracks are designed you can take them off and on again,

This test does not reflect true site conditions.
@NCDEquipment
@NCDEquipment 3 года назад
Hello Chris, It depends on the site you are working on, building site then no but the likely hood of having tracks on that type of site is slim! but an Environment site next to a water river then this is not far from the same conditions.

@@NCDEquipment I have 30 years experience of these situations and your right but in most cases I don't see your machine being best option. Steep ground or aggressive surface would cause problems with your machine also high centre of gravity not good. I use proper track dumped also loading shovel with tyre size 66/43-25 so 1mtre wide drive about all day no gritting of sursace. Do you tube search big foot loader.
