Me and my father run a junk removal business and have for 6 years now. This is the first summer we’ve had that we haven’t been slammed 6 days a week with work. We’re lucky if we get 4 days of work and they’re typically half days (4 hour days instead of 8). The economy is falling apart and it’s only going to get worse.

The food shift started almost two years ago. Sales were flat but non-essentials died one department after another. Then there were many new customers looking for Price. Then we noticed the restaurant type items, especially the bulk sizes, took off. Now it is working to a list for food and of course basic food tends to have low margin. So, the worst is yet to come.
A lot of stuff that Home Depot sells can be bought on Amazon now. Even big stuff like lawn mowers and patio sets. And unlike Home Depot, it gets delivered to your doorstep for free. You don’t have to try to fit it in the trunk of your car. But I prefer to buy from local neighborhood hardware stores. Those are the best.
Recession....could it be wages haven't kept up with inflation in the last few years? The prices scare me out of buying every time I walk into a hardware store.

There is a fairly well built up strip mall down the road from me. There are 28 small business shops in this strip mall. In January 2024 all but 2 shops were occupied. I drove by today, Aug 13, 2024 and the only business remaining at this strip mall is Verizon wireless.
Home Depot prices are still too high. They haven't lowered them at all.since the pandemic. I buy a few things from them but normally shop at Harbor Freight, Amazon, and even Temu.
With my 500 credit score and completely strung out on credit I'm still willing if given the opportunity to go further in debt to help stimulate the economy and help my wonderful government. Home Depot s Home Improver card has started charging $54 yearly fee and $2 billing fee. When I called they offered to cancel the $5000 credit line to avoid charges. Hmmm....

And besides the point, it’s all relative… whoever buys the home and it needs repairs they are going to make the repairs. The problem is there is not enough new money creation to support all of the debt in the system. This is all because design, hence higher for longer. Covid was the way they could throw this whole thing into motion. They are hoping to steal the election yet again to take us over the cliff for real!
If you use the 1982 OFFICIAL govt calculations for inflation each 1% today was COUNTED AS 3%. Calculate 2022-NOW inflation honestly like 1982 and we are at A 51% INFLATION. Even if inflation drops back towards 2% no matter. Consumers are out of $!!
