Thank you. So painful. I will try this. Went to a Doc and he said I had tendinitis. The diagnosis didn't fit the point of the pain I was having and where. This hit the nail on the head. Awesome.

I have been struggling with DQS for awhile now, but unfortunately have had to endure 3 surgeries for my recent breast cancer diagnosis, so the best I could do so far was a cortisone injection. That helped some, but didn’t last. Then, last night I had a brainstorm when I was not able to sleep. I had been wrapped my wrist and I wondered if there was a KT tape job for DQS… I found your site, ordered the rock tape of Prime and followed your instructions. I can tell you that, as always, I learned how to improve the taping for the next time in the next few days BUT, with my non athletic trainer husband (I am a retired AT.,C) helping me, my thumb/wrist already feels 90%better! I’m actually looking forward to not having pain when I bicycle tomorrow! That’s awesome! Thank you so much! 🎉 Woot!

Thanks for this video! Love the detailed demo of how to cut and apply the tape. This is my second bout of De Quervain’s tenosynovitis. Had a cortisone injection last year, which relieved it. But it came back. I have a splint, which doesn’t seem to help much except at night. My chiropractor recommended taping it. So I’ll give this a try!

What sort of tape do I need? I have a pharmacy brand strapping tape. Is that good enough?
@0joe
@0joe 8 месяцев назад
Probably a good idea to lift the skin to reduce the pressure on the inflamed tendon/sheath, and the tape reminds you not to move the thumb inwards, but be warned... it actually helps you move the thumb towards the wrist, which can be the most painful direction and would feel like your tendons being ripped right out the arm. So some tape to stop this outward movement I guess is also essential.

My husband helped me apply the K tape according to your video instructions. However, it was causing my wrist even more pain, I had to remove it after an hour. I had a cyst removed at the De Quervain's Tenosynovitis site end of September and I have a hard raised boney painful knot thers now. My doctor claims it's just scar tissue. I don't agree. I have all the symptoms of De QT, but not with a hard knot there as well. I am in so much pain. 🥺
@TheUpperHand
@TheUpperHand 2 года назад
I am sorry to hear this. It certainly doesn't work for everyone. With our patients who have had surgery in that radial wrist area like you, it is typically very sensitive especially around that "raised bony" area. This gel sleeve (I'll link below) has proved beneficial many times in helping reduce their pain/sensitivity. amzn.to/3rqp8o8

Did this last night before bed. Waking up this morning and wondering: is it normal to be feeling a relatively consistent discomfort initially or did we pull the tape too tight? My de quervain’s is typically a sharp extreme pain with a wrong movement and then no pain at rest in a neutral position.

Hey y’all! There’s so many kinds of tape on the market (varies by color or supposed function). Does it matter which one for this? & Whats the recommended wear time & how often can it be done? Thanks so much!
@TheUpperHand
@TheUpperHand 3 года назад
We typically use Kinesiotape or RockTape in our clinics. Both are good! As far as wear time, I would start out by wearing it for a few days (2 or 3) as long as it stays on well and then remove to assess the skin. As long as it isn't bothering your skin, you could continue that taping for as long as needed. I would just be very mindful of your skin to make sure it is responding well to the adhesive. Good Luck!

How much stretch did you have on the pull? 25%, 50% or more? and Did you do that for both tape parts? Or was the wrist part just used as an anchor holder

VERY interesting, I didnt actually notice that much before, although I feel either a pain or pressure at the palm side of my wrist where my thumb begins when I bend my thumb hard. I cut my right thump at the bend trying to stupidly catch a broken plate and seemingly cut the tendon. I guess I have several questions. #1. If I cut my thumb/cut the tendon(flexor pollicis longus), then why can I still bent the tip of it inward? I believe the internet calls it a IP Joint interphalangeal. I can bent my good thumb left thumb 120degrees and my right 45 degrees and its far far weaker. #2. I always thought there was a muscle there also, but if there isnt then I guess the tendon wasnt completely cut and I have a completely unknown problem why I cant bent my thumb all the way. I can force it to bent all the way with my other fingers. -After a while I turned a knob on a radio(a few years ago(4-5)) because I thought it was fairly healed and heard a SNAP felt horrible pain and was when I couldnt bend it and was weak after that. Actually it was sort of weak before that, turning the knob seemed to have finished it off.
@TheUpperHand
@TheUpperHand 7 месяцев назад
So there is only one tendon that goes all the way to the distal phalanx of the thumb which allows you to bend/flex the thumb IP joint. It’s hard to know for sure but it sounds like you may have partially cut the tendon initially and then years later it fully ruptured. Hard to say without seeing it in person to observe what motion you do and don’t have but this seems like a rationale explanation. Sorry to hear this!
@celloprof
@celloprof 7 месяцев назад
yeah but if I can bend my thumb on the tip end at all, then what is bending it? More like weeks later not years. I still wonder about it though. TO clarify, I can still bend it on the tip. @@TheUpperHand

@TheUpperHand
@TheUpperHand Год назад
Great question. With this condition you need rest to that area to allow the area to “calm down.” This taping method will take some of the pressure off of the muscles/tendons which in turn will allow them to rest. Sometimes that is enough and sometimes people need more!

@TheUpperHand
@TheUpperHand 2 года назад
It’s hard to know for sure without seeing you myself. When you say wristband is that a brace that keeps the wrist and thumb from moving? If not that would be my next step. Sometimes surgeons will try injections also prior to surgery. However, if it is affecting your everyday life, it is likely time to move toward surgery. Again, I saw that hesitantly because I’m not able to put my eyes on it so I would just follow your MD’s recommendation!
