Must watch before tinting any car!! Subaru Outback Wilderness window tips and tint shade matching 

Hello David. I went with really light 70% tint so I have no issues and the tinter assured me that his done tons of Subaru with eyesight and never had any issues.

The problems come later when you get into an accident and insurance denies your claim due to a modified eyesight system. Subaru says you need to completely cut around the flush-mounted eyesight system.

The manual shows a rather wide area around the cams. I don't know how a tinted film could impact the system unless it physically covers the cameras - and even then, a very low tint like 70 VLT shouldn't affect the vision.

I had nano ceramic on my Delica L300. Windshield and all. It was like driving a greenhouse around without it. It’s amazing how much better a vehicles AC works with proper tint!

Hello Ken, most tint shop should have a tint meter and should be able to match the shade on all windows ~

Hello Jessie, I don't know about WA laws regarding front window tint but it is so light, you can't even tell and even in CA where I am from, I only got hassled once by a cop when I had 50% shade in the windshield. I guess it's all by luck 😕 but I would take that chance and do it all over again as it's so worth it. Worse case, it's a fix up ticket and won't go on your record.

Haha, all of my previous cars and truck were black color, so yes, I would get black again. Honestly, the heat is about the same as any other color car if left out in the sun.

What percentage did you get?

No, not at all. The tinter even told me he's done multiple cars with eyesight and non had returned for any issues.

@@ChasingAdventuresCO I also have an outback wilderness but only have the front windows tinted with ceramic tint, but I didn’t know you can apply clear ceramic tint over the factory tint and the front wind shield. Thanks for the info I’ll have to check it out.

@@yangas1005 hey Tony. Nice ride!! 😃 and yes you can tint over factory tint because it's actually the glass that's tinted so it's all good. Yeah check them out if you are in the area.

I can't say it does because I am not familiar with the forester but it is a good idea to find a tint shop that has the tint meter and takes time to show the difference on each window to figure put the percentage that works for your car.

@@ChasingAdventuresCO thank you for asking! Not yet. The owner was pushing the regular xpel XR package, not the plus. He showed me two cars…one with the XR and one with XR plus. He said most people don’t care for the blue hew when sitting inside the car with the plus. In the less expensive XR, sitting inside was normal dark tint. I am so indecisive! I don’t mind the bluish hue with the plus, but began to think about winter months if I am traveling north and actually want some extra heat from the sun to warm off the car when car camping. It’s a difficult decision!! Lol I used an online tint calculator to determine what percentage for each window. I am set on 70 for the windshield and 20 for sunroof. For the front sides I was thinking of 55 tint to combat the factory 77% , which the online calculator would bring it to 27% which is SC state law. The owner told me that the factory tint of the windshield and front two sides is about 77% (basically nothing) and the rear sides is 20 factory and hatch is about 30. For the rear sides, I was thinking also 55 which when you calculate with the factory 20, it would be 11 percent. For the hatch, maybe go with 45 which would bring to 13 with factory 30. So much info to digest! I don’t know how you do it, and I’m retired! Hahaha. What are your thoughts on my long response? Advice is appreciated. On another note, I got the OEM flaps on yesterday as well as trailer hitch. I think I’ll order the black shackle and keep the cooper accents. Since I’ll do lots of car camping, for storage, I set up my Thule 53 crossbars and will mount the Thule XT Sport cargo box on passenger side. On driver side I am seriously considering a 95L Roam Adventure box which will be on driver side. It will be a tight squeeze but should work with dimensions they provided. Roam has a nice pre- Black Friday sale going on now! Quick question- can you turn off that darn stop/start button??Drives me insane as I think the starter will go bad! Hahaha. @@briantodd4887 hmm that's interesting to hear the owner is pushing XR instead of XR Plus. and seems like you did your homework! LOL I say, the more you look into it, it will be more confusing. I just left it at the owners' decision on my car since I am not too familiar with that field. I said, as long as the shades look even, I am all good. and as far as roof cargo configuration goes, you have to consider the opening size because it opens sideways and will need a few extra inches to clear each other. and yes you can turn the auto start but will need to disable it every time you restart the car. I know it's a bit annoying and I used to turn it off every time but now I learned to live with it. a little tip, when you come to a stop ease off on the brake pedal and press lightly and it won't trigger the stop-and-start function.

@@ChasingAdventuresCO I must say, Diamond did an excellent job with your car and it looks all similar shade. I was curious to know with your shades, is it at all difficult driving at night? Maybe seeing out with the xr plus blue hue actually helps the driver out rather than a black hue of the xr. I may also try Weather Techs window shades too. Yea- definitely have to factor in about 3 inch gap between the two cargo boxes. Do you use a step stool or that step gadget that hooks into the frame to access your cargo box? Funny, we both had Prius prior to our OBW. My 2014 Prius c lasted a good long while during my long commute to work. Great vehicle but definitely not for off road adventures! Lol. If you go with dark tint it may affect the eye sight. But honestly, I hardly use eye sight. Maybe in a stop n go traffic. So I wasn't to concerned.

@@Bajablast_scuba_cat lol. Yes me too. the auto start stop is annoying and I think it does more harm to the engine and the starter. I also turned off the back up breaking. Sometimes it stop if there is a shadow... scars the poop out of me lol

The first time I backed into my garage it spotted my shop vac behind me and the beeping scared me too 😂 I enjoy the driving assistance stuff for long trips, but 99% of the time I have most of it turned off. Just wish there wasn't a light on in the cluster all the time for the different systems being off 🫤

Ok so I got my car done near Philly suburbs, cost 250 for both front windows for ceramic and the small little windows in front of the big ones. I went with 20% and it matches the rear perfectly, but not dark enough to stand out in traffic if you roll by a cop. The huge rooftop glass makes them see through in case that’s useful for you. But I wouldn’t change anything, and the ceramic tint was way better than the cheapo tints. The cheapo tints were 150. I also got the xpel. They quoted me 200 for the windshield for the xpel ceramic. It was their top tint
