Another top brand worth mentioning is Don Fulano. It ranks up there with Fortaleza which is my number one all time. Also Tequila Ocho is pretty nice too.
So true, my wife thinks I'm an idiot for not selling out like a lot of the other guys and making money on this one way or another, but I just refuse to do that. I turn down offers every week
I admit I enjoy the Julio 42 but I also know I'm getting the additives with it. However that's the only one. I can't stand all the other additive tequilas. I'm a huge fan of the G4 and Fortaleza lines.
As a noob, and for someone who doesnt 'like' or has never had tequila, I would give them the sweeter stuff. Cava de Oro is my gateway drug for noobs. They cant believe it tastes that good and think its #1. Once they are convinced that Tequila has promise, then you can give them a really good blanco like Lalo to show them where the actual Tequila floor starts. The quality of the Water in Lalo makes a big difference in how it feels in the mouth, to the point that it allows your tongue to pull out the sweetness that was always present in tequila before additives. From there you do as Lou says and climb the ladder of the good stuff. Be warned that some of this good stuff is not for amateur drinkers because they will say its too strong/powerful/hot because they have not yet drank the bottom of the barrel stuff from which to form their own opinion. The best is at the 50% and higher alcohol content, 55-60% straight from the copper still's in Jalisco is the ultimate best. Sipping on that fresh highproof tequila immediately numbs your tongue, warms your mouth, draws out cane sugar sweetness from the agave, and zero burn as you drink and exhale.
I agree for the most part, but what I try to do is show newbies a sweet tequila, but something additive free, maybe aged in a cognac barrel or something, to try to get them hooked into the good stuff right off the bat. I agree it doesn't always work, and sometimes you have to start at the bottom, but it's worth a try I flipped a few right into the good stuff from the get-go, and they appreciated saving the time and the money
Love your enthusiasm to share what is really good and worth the money - I started my tequila journey about five years ago with Patron and am currently stuck and totally in love with Fortaleza - stay happy & healthy Lou 😃
The one's you described as chocolate and cotton candy, those would be a big hit with the youngsters in the neighborhood. Hey, are you drinking all those bottles in back of you for yourself?
oh hell no, I never even tried it, but I could safely tell you that this distillery sucks, and they put additives in their products, so I would say...NO
You'd be surprised how many of my fellow Mexicans (IDK how they call themselves Mexicans) drink GARBAGE tequila... Talking about that, I'm very curious about Casa Dragones, a very premium brand, very expensive, and was wondering if you have tasted it?
@benjibecks - I'm amazed at the lack of tequila knowledge by many Mexican people.. If I try to give advice or education, they get an attitude because it's their product and not mine, and I can understand that. Many of them drink the brands their grandparents drank, which were much better quality then. Brands like Don Julio, Herradura, Cazadores Etc have all gone straight downhill. Yes I've had Casa dragones and it's one of the worst ever created how to make with a diffuser and filled with additives. It's all flash ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WcUXMGcENSs.htmlfeature=shared
A huge problem, in my experience down here in Houston, is that if I go to a Total Wine or Spec's they are either undereducated on the spirit/are made to push certain ones. I'm guessing this is all over the country in retailers with few exceptions.
It's likely both things, but surely they're being told to push their own crap, like I'm being told by employees of Total Wine here in New York. They don't make any money when they recommend a good brand.
I watched a worker at the Westbury TW steer patrons AWAY from Casamigos and toward Three Amigos and El Tequileno, as well as educate patrons about add free.
That's got to be my friend John. He usually wears a sports jacket and he's a really nice gentleman who knows good tequila. He's the only one in there that's worth anything, and they hate him for telling people the right stuff to buy
@@longislandloutequila7208It actually was one of the other reps. I happened to be in NY a few days after Tony Salles signed bottles at TW and you hosted and treated he and company to some lote 42A. I meandered over to TW and briefly spoke with John and yeah, great guy.
Lou . 😅 what do you think is the best tequila respoasdo around 50 dollars us . IXA' I TRyed and g4 all the other that aren't crap . I am a sipper with beer . No salt or lime . Just nice drink and few minutes later have drink of beer. And repeat
I’ve learned a lot since I first got into tequila and I wish I had seen this sooner. I’ve been buying much better stuff for several years now and am happier for it. These days my go to is Arette blanco. It appeals to MY palate more than some of the more celebrated brands and it’s a great value.
Addictivo is what got me started. Then I got tricked into buying Mi Familia Flores which is the same manufacturer of Addictivo. Then I started stumbling on these videos on RU-vid and it opened my eyes.
I started with Patron Añejo & Sprite. Straight honey water. I thought the point was to mask the taste. I’ve matured tons from then. The hangovers kind of dictate that
@@donmorey01 - I understand your question, but you'd be drinking additive filled artificial tequila, mixed in with whatever flavors you're using in a mixed drink. That's a lot of sugar, and to me.. that's a major headache
LOL...This is awesome, and next time I see someone acting like some kind of sophisticated baller because they're buying a bottle of Casamigos, I'm going to laugh even more under my breath.
Thank you I love those people that think Casamigos is even real tequila. There's so many people willing to educate but so many people just don't want to listen. Thank you for watching
@@longislandloutequila7208 Oh re: people not wanting to listen - I was giving out samples of tequila at a store the other day, and a customer proclaimed, loudly, their love of tequila, so I said "You'll love this one, it's 100% agave, yada yada yada" and the response? "I don't like agave"
With so many newish brands of tequila and mezcal, thanks for doing the hard work on giving us solid tips on What Not To Buy!!!! You have been right on in my book and experience!
Thank you, I'm completely independent in every way possible unlike many of the others. This is the reason why it's easy to be honest, which is what I would expect myself
Why have I not seen Long Island Lou before?! The "don't give a f***" review is amazing. He knows his stuff and then some. Subbed and coming back for more. Awesome stuff Lou!
Thank you very much. The reason you and many people probably have not seen me, even though I've been around longer than any of these newcomers who are overnight experts now, is because I don't buy followers, so I don't have the high visibility when people Google tequila reviewers or influencers. It's a pleasure to have you on board Jason
Thanks for the content, Lou! I happened to stumble upon your vids coming from the world of whiskey, and this really helps for finding bottles I'll actually enjoy drinking. I actually picked up a bottle of Don Fulano repo today on your/a few other recommendations. Looking forward to trying more, cheers! Keep up the great work!
I just bought a tequilaluzuna an hour ago. It wasn't bad. I'm new to the game. I'll go on matchmaker and see the rating. I didn't want to go there first and be influenced. I still got a bottle of 1800. That will be around for awhile. I luv my liver.
Maybe that's why various friends of my told me early on to not drink 'to kill ya'. I always stayed away from it but mostly preferred bourbon anyway. I have to try some the good stuff you recommend to get a feel for it sometime.
Still absolutely true. LALO too should be up there with the good ones, but I get that it’s a later release and this was 7 months ago. Especially because it’s such a good sipper for the price, it’s so smooth and even a little on the sweet side in a light citrus way. I think their commitment to the blanco really shines and delivers.
I love Siete though, so good. Respect for the cristalino slander though- makes no sense, just drink a good blanco at that point. My bud always forcing herraduras ultra on me 🥲
love El Tesoro. Carlos was represented, as Tapatio was on the . There's only so much room on a table. There's lots of great brands that I couldn't mention
Man, listening to you speak makes me miss NYC! You sound just like my Pop! Thanks for all your tequila advice. I will definitely go down the Long Island Lou tequila path! Thank you, sir!
Today I bought 3 Amigos Organic Blanco… man, the purest tequila I’ve ever had. Maybe too pure. Strong grassy taste with a lime skin ending. Very clean. For $29 it’s a steal but leaves me confused on if it’s a sipper or mixer with such an earthy flavor. Thoughts?
Love the video. New subscriber. Your recommendations are spot on. Not sure if you ever tried El Tesoro, but if you haven’t give it a try you won’t be disappointed!
Great videos!! I have all the good ones and I look to your reviews on many of of them. Don fulano, el tesoro, suerte, g4 and i recently got Volcán which I’m still trying to see if I love, but def like. 😊
Volcan grows on you. I've seen what they can make as I mentioned in my last review, and hopefully some of that is going to come out soon.. which will be aimed more towards us
What is your opinion on joven tequilas (its not a brand its a type. They blended blanco and reposado to make a joven). I found out about Libélula Joven Tequila which is 80% blanco and 20% reposado and I wondered if there are any good joven tequilas out there?
I know what a Joven is, and as long as it's not too malolactic, I love them. My favorite is Siembra Valles, Siembra Azul Lidia, followed by Cazcanes and General Gorostieta. PS- I love Kokoro.. but it's really not a Joven
I dont know what lulu is? if you mean Lalo, they dont make a reposado,if that's what you meant,, and Corazon is not a top tequila... it's drinkable, but that's it
Well you have to be careful with sweet, because a lot of times they are sweet because of additives. For ones that don't have additives... SEE anything on my list HERE- longislandloutequila.com/what-brands-to-buy/amp/
My favorite Blanco is Siembra Azul out of NOM 1414. I noticed that it is not on Grover’s certified additive free list. Does that mean they could be using additives?? I’d be so disappointed if that was the case!
No I wouldn't think so. Occasionally a brand doesn't opt into the program for whatever reasons, but knowing David Suro and Chava... they're not going to use additives
Boooo, yes I'm booing you. Let them drink the crap, they are happy and the bottles looks good on the table in the club. The good stuff is getting harder and harder to find. I use be able to walk into my favorite liquor store and pickup whatever I wanted. Got to work for it now Lou.
