Payment should come from the people instructing the agent and receiving the service - at times that’s a club, at other times it’s a player.

If an agent is brokering a deal he should get paid by the club but not to the exorbitant levels

Except he's not. If you get a job that includes a car, one you didn't pay for out of pocket, rather the company did....you're still paying for it. It's part of compensation, so if your contract is for 3 years and the car was 30K, the company was already prepared to give you that 10k a year, but instead that "benefit" was diverted to pay for the car. The players are paying the agent. It's money that otherwise they could have demanded....but divert to the agent for services rendered. There are so many issues relating to the business of football, namely MASSIVE inefficiency based on dated models, but this debate is far off the mark

The PFA aswell, the clubs pay for the footballer's union. It's disgusting. Listen to Simon battling Trevor Sinclair on the PFA, it's fantastic. There are professional players in the game getting millions upon millions, and they begrudge paying for absolutely anything. Disgraceful

@Round 1 I used to think agents were parasites and no doubt some are but the bottom line is this. Years ago players were told 'This is your contract'. A good agent will negotiate a better deal than a club would try to palm them off with it. It's devil's advocate. I like listening to Simon Jordan but he's got a mistrust of agents mindset. Yes agents get their cut but unless you're Steve Coppell with an economics degree you're going into contract talks with no idea of anything. Agents exist because of the money in the modern game as do rich owners and both have their angle. Ever since Jimmy Hill fought to get the maximum wage abolished this has slowly crept in and it's not going away.

@@DS-od1kb Why are clubs having to pay massive agents fees, when the agents are representing the player? I think the player and the club should talk first and get an interim deal in place, then the agent can look to improve the deal and take a cut from the player for the improved part that he/she negotiates. It stops all the back handers and the player knows he is paying for a good service, and the club hasn't got to budget agents fees in the deal, and the agent gets a fair cut for his work It stops all the smokes and mirrors where a dodgy agent bags millions for nothing.

Forcing players to sign with the agent that the manager used. Don’t look at just the super agents and the go moaning about agents they are a minimal percent of the business.
