25:20 "I don't feel sorry for Envy at all, I feel sorry for Mustang." I think you're the first one I've seen who immediately realized the tone of this massacre (because it's not a fight, it's a massacre). Many don't realize this until the end, and even then they don't accept it, I think Hiromu's intention was perfectly well portrayed. At first it is a great emotion to see how Mustang finds Hughes' murderer and begins his revenge, but everything quickly submerges into a dark and extremely sad atmosphere. But there will be more to discuss in the next chapter. P.S. Miss Bradley is one of the strong women in FMA, I am overwhelmed by everything the poor woman had to endure.
She is excellent at portraying the weight of taking a life and the consequences of it. No matter if the character is good or bad, this is one topic she does not take lightly and for a good reason.
I think the weird lamppost is one Ed repaired back during his fix-up Central moments (he had 2, one to lure in Scar and then the Homunculi, and then a second after Father and the Fuhrer let him go)--both moments were full of small demonstrations of his bizarre gothic aesthetic taste (skulls, jagged blades, demon faces, etc., he put a drill and a devil face on a baby carriage at one point). It's a neat little easter egg reminding us of that small often-overlooked flaw he has.
You can tell what kind of state of mind Roy is in. He almost always calls Ed "Fullmetal". But in this instance, he said "Elric" and the way he said it. Chills.
Roy butchering/burning Envy is always one of the most beautiful things. Roy is definitely a monster character with how strong he is at controlling his alchemy. He avoided killing any allies and eliminated all enemies with a single snap. A powerful skill like that is amazing. This was an episode that I was looking forward to seeing your reaction towards for a long time now. Just because of how easily Roy handles Envy. Roy with his game face on is terrifying.
17:10 It's not so much that Roy is trying to bait Envy, it's more that Hughes was such a badass he reached a rank just below Mustang *without* being an alchemist, so he feels like Envy wouldn't have been able to take him and is lying for some reason. But then Envy shows exactly how he did it, and Mustang immediately realizes that Hughes definitely wouldn't have been able to shoot because he's such a nice guy and realizes Envy isn't lying.
Your description was so on point! FMAB takes super cool fight scenes but actually makes you aware of the reason behind it, and how it can be actually really chilling. Motivations are important, even when it's a good guy beating a bad guy.
"Shoot the white guys" feels like it's one of the bloopers that they left in. The cast had a lot of fun voice acting this and goofing off. Definitely check out the bloopers when you're done.
I've been waiting for your reaction to this episode the entire series! Roy's voice actor crushes this episode! Every delivery he gives is phenomenal; you can just feel his hate. My favourite has to be when Envy takes on the form of Hughes, it's dripping with so much malice. "Maes Hughes is dead. That's a fact. And you invoke his image? You must be a glutton for punishment!"
Mustang killing Lust was the epic revenge scene for what she did to Havoc, Mustang brutalizing Envy is revenge turning dark and consuming the user. (Also have to say, props to Mustangs being the only character shown capable of outright overpowering not one, but TWO Homunculi in a one-on-one fight.)
Yeah, those two homunculi don’t stand a chance against flame alchemy, Envy especially…although Lust could’ve killed Mustang if not for the accumulation of damage she’s had against Hughes and Hawkeye (which is due mostly to Lust’s quirk of wanting to feel pain instead of dodging). Mustang’s flames are no match for Gluttony’s stomach beam, Bradley’s speed, Greed’s shield, Sloth’s skin that doesn’t seem to catch fire, although I would wager that he could take on Pride if he could make his flames have the same effect as a flashbomb. Mustang kinda got lucky he got to face two of the homunculi who have flame spamming as a weakness.
I wouldn't call his fight with Lust a revenge scene, Havoc was hurt but Mustang didn't know the full degree yet, If anything, i think it what helped it feel more "positive" compared to fighting Envy is that he was fighting to protect Alphonse and Riza, his attacks were on a level of "I need to kill her or she will kill me and the other two" whereas against Envy they are more focus on making Envy suffer rather than burn out his lives.
I just want to say that for me the part when Roy kills the maniquins is a perfect reminder of his past as a soldier in Ishval. No hesitation to destroy an enemy shaped more or less like a human, just a pin point accurate attack
Watching you get to feel the building hope, the ecstatic victory, the turn in tone, the building dread. Ugh! It's fun to see, and it still gets me on rewatches. You're about to be in the LAST 10! Shit is going to hit the fan EVERY EPISODE. This last chunk plays like a movie, definitely. Just be ready, I was so frustrated and angry at some of these cliffhangers 😂
There are actually plenty of options for that last scene, Envy could be pretending to be Hawkeye and is aiming at Mustang, Envy could be Mustang to get at Hawkeye, or they both could be the real ones and can't be certain if either one is the real person.
10:09 “just start shooting at these white guys” line aged hilariously and even more funny is that there is an opposite line in the english dub of dragon ball super anime where someone shouted “dont shoot, that man isnt black” with “black” being someone’s name but like they couldve used a different name or phrase it differently yet the studio instead went for these words specifically
The full might and skill on display of the Flame Alchemist. Powerful enough to fill a room with fire. Deft enough to weave it around his allies. Precise enough to boil a tongue from across the room. Ruthless enough to target the eyes. One wonders at the mark he left on Ishval.
The fate of Amestras and 50 million Amestrains hangs in the balance, and Roy still takes the time to ask who killed his best friend. "You're a true friend, to the very end!" Envy to Roy. Love Roy, great reaction, been waiting for this ep!
We've been waiting more than 40 episodes for this! 🤩 Equally one of the most epic and darkest moments in the anime. The most brutal and precise Mustang has ever been. And he's a man of his word. He literally starts by calling it and burning Envy's filthy tongue until it melts. And then the second thing he does is boil his eyes out of his sockets. And then 24:15 he does it again!! They mentioned many times in the show how scary flame alchemy is and how brutal it was in Ishval, but this is the episode that truly drove that narrative home for me. It also puts into perspective how traumatic Ishval must have been for him, burning people alive.
Now remember that what Mustang did to the dummies is what he did to the Ishvalians during the War of Extermination... For what he was deemed "The Hero of Ishval"...
Travis Willingham (the English voice actor for Roy Mustang) is really letting his range show! Hard to believe that he was once pestering the woman he'd eventually marry (Laura Bailey, who voices Lust in FMAB) to get him an audition for Dragon Ball Z. Laura voices Bulma and Kid Trunks.
i'm glad i watched this in my angsty teen years because that roy's revenge arc is what makes me understand the whole "losing yourself oursuing revenge" thing other creators try to beat you over the head with. hiromu arakawa manages to do it for me so, so efficiently. also, yeah this last stretch of episodes/manga chapter is hella crazy and jusr whoosh through you like a goddamn movie. did you know hiromu arakawa did it while heavily pregnant? i could never.
I love the fact that Mustang has the strongest alchemy, he could conquer the entire world if he was a dictador, but you dont even think about it. This is one of the things that makes FMAB my favorite anime, the author doesnt lose herself increasing the power of one or two characters making all other characters useless
Mustang is the ultimate best character!! 🙌🔥 yes! Finally, it comes to a full circle.. Mustang never forgot Hughes and this is his last moment to evolve into the man he needs to be. Almost there… amazing wholesome story! Very philosophical story.. 😌
I would love to see your reaction to the difference from Fullmetal Alchemist(2003) to Brotherhood. That one parallels Brotherhood but goes in depth into a few things. Like you see, the brothers encounter with Yoki and see more of what happened in Leor. And there is an episode with Armstrong's other sister
10:47 I've always liked comparing this particular attack from Mustang to Super Buu's Human Extinction Attack from DBZ, it's both widespread and highly targeted
One classic anime I highly suggest is Yu Yu Hakusho. There's good reason that many people that still know its protag thinks he's an A Class protagonist.
"He's right, just start shooting at these white guys!" is on the same level as Dragon Ball Super's "Hold your fire! This man isn't Black!" (Black was the nickname of a villain in that series.)
I agree. I find Mustang's quest for Hughes' revenge immensely satisfying and epic, and one of the main thing i was rooting for, but we suddenly get filled with worry when Ed starts worrying about Mustang's integrity/''goodness''. Fuck Envy, and go off Mustang, but not at the cost of him going dark or dying.
Mustang is the most OP chara in the whole serie. He got his position by bravery and intelligence (and good soldiers under his command, that's hard to achieve too) He has the most destructive power and with great accuracy The fact that he is a good guy who goofs around seemed to low his value at the begynning, right? NO!! That makes him even more OP!! MVP of FMA
I think I'm gonna leave my big comment on the next one, I'm waiting for it. Also, I like your take on this fight, it's amazing to see the abilities of Roy but also terrifying and sad.
It took me about 2 weeks to catch up and landed on an epic episode. Can't wait for the next one. Can't wait to finish this journey with you. Since you've had to skip the openings/endings due to copyright (which works, some of them might have subtle spoilers), I think you should do another reaction after you finish the series. It's an amazing feeling to go back to them
These last couple of episodes (except for the last episode which is an epilogue) is just set on the Promised Day (just one whole day). I still think that's pretty cool.
Personally i love both mustang vs envy it's just as i like levi vs beast titan, they both are one sided massacres and these two are the best rage moments in all of anime.
Nah, that look on eds face isn't surprise at mustangs power, it's horror at the number of human lives he just ended with a snap. As monstrous as those zombies were ed still saw them as having human life and had hope there was a way they could be changed back to normal.
Yaaaaaaasssss!!! Fullmetal day!! First of all... I TOLD YOU, LUKE!! I told you in the previous reaction you will love the next two episodes and here it is haha Gosh.... I was waiting for your reaction to this part for a long time... when you said on ep 10 reaction you need to see some old revenge for Hughes I was like "Ha!! You just wait for it" this is TOP FIGHT in anime and wait bc this is going to be amazing. I love Roy Mustang so much. He is powerfull, has a goal but more important, He has partners. Partners like Hughes, Havoc, Maria Ross, Armstrong, Hawkeye. you think Riza is useless in this situatión... well maybe you're right, but I think it's great she is there. This is more than a simple revenge. Hughes was his best friend and Roy is showing how frustrated and angry he was for not find who killed him until now.... and Roy humilliating Envy is one of the best things in this anime. Ok, yes it is cruel but I think Envy deserves it. What he did to Hughes was cruel too. All this, and I'm talking about a character that is not the protagonist, but is so well done that Mustang could have his own manga/anime. Me? Roy Mustang supporter 🛐 Last, Maes and Roy friendship was great, you should check Brotherhood OVA 4 to have more context about it. Have a nice weekend and greetings 🤗😊
Day 139 of recommending the Beyblade openings. There are the Japanese ones and the English ones. The English version has one opening for a generation, and that for the 1st and 2nd generation. The 3rd gen has one op for one season. But the Japanese version has multiple ops for a season in any gen. You should definitely check both versions out. I made playlists on my channel, so you don't need to search, cause in those compilations are a few off and not in the correct order. Thanks for checking out!
Day 69 of requesting a reaction to the following openings: Chivalry of a Failed Knight op Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress op Kiznaiver op You could make a multiple op reaction for this. Thank you!
This episode was something everyone wanted since Hughes's death, but yeah, Mustang totally lost it and Envy's reaction doesn't help. Whstva great finale.
if you still think "anime watched as a kid" is suposed to be free of violence and moral imbigiuity you should wacth few of the best seasons from pretty cure 20 years long run fresh and heartcatch precures being the closest to keeping the same level trough but oryginal 2 seasons and pretty much every after have enough nightmare fuel to make you scream that being said target demographic is ment to be 8 years ols girls the only 2 seasons of pretty cure that were brought to united states by netflix were hevyly censored and kid friendlyfied under a glitter force brand
@@yogi_gs hey even if the story is not good , that doesn't mean the anime is trash, the characters development and there reaction in critics situation is very good, and I like the comedy too
