I know this video is old now, but it's worth mentioning after reading some of the comments. Hidan has an insane Quan Chi, and played completely out of his mind this tournament. He just couldn't get anything going in grand finals because Mustard was all over him constantly. Quans only way out of pressure is to uppercut. Not to mention the rune trap isn't s effective against Cyrax because it requires meter, and you have to save meter against Cyrax to break the reset combos. Lets keep the hating to a low chaps. Long live MK!
***** Mainly because Smokes resets weren't guaranteed, there was always a chance the smoke bomb would just simply end the combo. Plus the net was easier to get hit by, there was a chance the net would catch your jump, which was an issue because cyrax could reset off air nets too. Plus the duration of being stuck in a net is a lot longer than being in the air from a smoke bomb, Cyrax would trade projectiles better than Smoke could. Considering he could fullscreen net trade, teleport and get a full combo on you. Smoke was still a sick character though.
***** lol smoke is not a counter to cyrax.. cyrax's d4 is +16 and outranges b2 also cyrax is superior in footsie tools compared to smoke not to mention his reset is actually a bnb and not much of a risk that all he really needs his meter for. smoke's good but cyrax is def a top 5 character where smoke isnt.
***** Scorpion is NOT a safer bet for anyone. He's a character that has to go for unsafe 50/50's to maximize his damage output, all his other pressure tools leave him at neutral, so anyone with faster starting strings will chew him up if he presses the wrong buttons. Sektor is a very solid character, but has some really touch matchups, as is the way with MK9. Plus his 1,2 wiffing 90% of the time really hurt him against characters like Cage. Smoke has the escape tools and touch of death combos, so Smoke isn't bad in any way, but he's not a hard counter to Cyrax, just a character that doesn't lose to him. Smoke still has 100% combos in the corner.
Doesn't matter, if Cyrax is doing that against a meter-reliance character, Cyrax wins. I main Shang Tsung (I main everyone, really, but I use Shang Tsung best) and if I HAVE to use a breaker, I'm at a complete disadvantage. It's nonsense, and you know it. MK9 is the second worst Competitive fighter in history. And yes, it is 90% damage.
Nah, you'd probably beat me online. Can't AA in the delay at all. That's why I mostly play offline, and why I switched to SCV. We can play a few if you like. xLoDxTheChi - PSN
No, Cyrax is broken because of his damage. Canceling into nets like that is a mixup, like any other. It catches you for a lot of damage if you poke and forces you not to poke anymore. I have no trouble beating Cyrax, and I main Shang Tsung. 212 is an extremely good string, just like F434 is a good string for Shang. The only different is that Shang's GS cancel gives him +2 on block which amounts to a sizeable frametrap, however, it's unreliable. So rather, I use the full F434, or break it in half
Why doesn't mustard use cyrax resets during his combos? Don't get me wrong he's amazing with him. Just wondering if it has anything to do with strategy?
@TraughHD But he's just streamer on the internet. Why would you love him like that? It's pretty clear you weren't saying it like he was your boyfriend. Be more secure in your manhood dude and/or less homophobic.
Guys didnt patch this game from like 2011 fuck this...quan chi is rly weak why? cuz of his slow attack and you need perfect timing to score 40% combo with his two pops in air + he has two combos that use both botons wich sux cuz you can always slip and mis it,look liu kang he can do 35% just spaming his low combo hit,and look how owerpower scorpion ecnh sweap is i mean it can dodge x-ray it is very hard to punish and it has major armor(sorry on my english)
the only guy ive seen doing 100+% for cyrax is check4900 who doesnt even play online, and how can u have 0? its like u just got the breaker than he starts the full combo again somehow. and yea cyrax is fking op shit online, his net has a ridicoulus hitbos, and he has that command grab with the 80% resets, dafuq?
He doesn't need the advantage, 21 and 12 are his ultimate pressure strings. I main Shang Tsung and I know all characters, including Cyrax. He isn't the only broken character, btw. My whole point is that MK9 is terribad, to my dismay.
Because of reaction times. Cyrax can 21 cancel into specials that every player is afraid of, which is why you're going to keep blocking until you see what he'll do next. By that time, he can already poke or start a brand new string. Just because it's not a frame trap, doesn't mean it's bad pressure.
It's only too ****ing bad that lag ruins a lot of matches. Maybe we could go a couple of matches. Problem is I'd tarnish my good record by playing a tournament level player. Haha. :D
This clip is very old but worth commenting. I don't know y so many ppl claim that Cyrax is broken. I know his resets are insane but 2 get them work u need supermeter plus Mustard didn't rely on resets. Even Cyrax high damage combos requires his supermeter. I know there's a lot of tricky stuff with Cyrax...1 bar 60% combos or 1 bar up 2 90% resets but he's not broken.
gda hindan ended up just like the real naruto hindan! first he uses unblock-able magic to kill one of Mustard's loved ones (ketchup), then he tries to do the same to do the same to Mustard but is defeated by Mustard seeking revenge. he even died to same way! both the real hindan and him were blown sky high and completely sliced into chunks, lol. congrats to Mustard,... you finally avenged Asuma... I mean Ketchup. but I must admit,... gda hindan is the real deal.
He's still easy mode. Net should have more recovery given its damage potential. There is nothing justifying Cyrax having a way faster "catch" projectile Than anyone else when it also has a better hitbox. No idea what they were thinking when giving it lightning speed.
Fight a Cyrax that takes risks. He'll randomly cancel his 21 into a net and you eat 50-70% damage, or lose two meter. Then you will never try to D3/D1 Cyrax's strings again. That is why Cyrax is broken, the fear factor. If you are unafraid to play a poking game with Cyrax, you're not fighting a good one. Or hell, even a bad one.
I never see any Shang Tsung's online. I reckon he's an advanced character. I remember he was tiered highest of all when the game was out but then dropped to among the lowest. Not sure why I didn't mention Kabal -- he's ridiculous. Seems to be one of the few characters that really stands out as overpowered at toiurnament level play. Do you still play? I only played when the game got, then took a break until about a weak ago. I used to think this game was crap, now I realise it's great!
Ah, yeah. Lag is a very skill equalizing factor in MK9. Sometimes very predictable players can win by mere spam since it's impossible to punish in severe lag. Is SCV good from a lag perspective? I am getting Tekken Tag 2 tomorrow and I have heard it is great in that regard.
i coulda sworn that the developers said cyrax was ketchup and sektor was mustard, oh well many people get confused with that but im not completely sure myself
Sektor is by far my favourite MK character and I use him regardless of how effective he is. I actually find him to be one of the easiest characters to beat when others use him. Rain is my secondary. Which characters do you play? I hate Raiden and Liu Kang, btw. RIdiculous.
SCV is by the same company, it has almost no lag at all. If it lags, the match will immediately end, rather than force you to play through it. It's also more balanced.
Quan Chi is one of my mains. Spamming skydrop only works online. The only time I ever do it is as an antiair and to reverse their controls (When I have them in a trap). Offline you can punish Quan Chi's teleport, Reptile's elbow dash, Raiden's teleport, Kano's upball' and several other special attacks on reaction for up to and including 50% depending on your character.
VladtheImpaler31 Yeah, I know. Even though Kabal is the most overpowered character I consider Cyrax even more broken due to his ridiculous resets. One hit and you're dead basically. What makes it even more insane is that his net (effectively 90% damage off of one, basically) has almost no recovery and hits crouchers AND jumpers. LOL.
The net was always one of the most punishable projectiles in the game, random nets were always a bit dangerous against some characters, but everyone could punish Cyrax had for up close nets on block. Characters like Sektor or Noob Saibot could react to it with ease for a teleport punish fullscreen. Just depends on how fast your reactions were..
What's so punishable about it? Far more recovery than other projectiles? I mean ... compare it to Sub-Zero's ice ball or Scorpion's spear -- can't be crouched, harder to jump and faster startup and recovery (especially compared to the ice, regarding the startup). And he benefits far more from a hit than those characters do. Can deplete pretty much your whole life bar off of a net. "A bit dangerous" just doesn't suffice when it has such huge reward. The net issue aside, his resets are far too powerful.
Guds Skyfall Characters with teleports eliminate random nets, you can punish them anywhere on screen on reaction, and at closer ranges, you could punish a net fully with a string. Cyrax's net was just as unsafe on block as Sub Zeros ice ball.
But doesn't that go for a lot of other (far less powerful) projectiles, too? I want to understand the weaknesses of Cyrax; I'm sure he has them, but I just can't see it ...
Guds Skyfall Cyrax was easily top 5, that was never the point I was trying to make. Cyrax's biggest issue was against zoners, characters with amazing keepaway gave him a hard time, especially if they had an answer to fullscreen nets which eliminates the trade. He was just a very very strong character.
yo uso a cyrax y eres muy lento para jugar yo uso estrategias distintas alas demas y otros resets mi nick es thunder_dvm te reto en complet edition yo soy de peru y aqui no hay torneos donde estas si lo hay y te lo juro q te gano

Mustard was very good, I liked his style of pressing (but if he would use resets - it would be even more deadly). Quan Chi was very bad in all ways: it's bad matchup for Cyrax, and Hidan's skill was definitely lower than Mustard's
This game looks so much like shit compared to the current mortal kombat i wonder if years from now i will be saying that about mkx if another installment is released
