A basic overview of the amazing Stages module. Envelopes, voltages, LFOs, sequences, it's all crammed in there in a deceptively simple surface. Sorry about the exposure and not really being able to see the LEDs, it was a stupidly sunny day.
Note: These are complex modules with a lot of inter-related functions, these videos hopefully serve to illustrate some basic operations. For more complex and musical uses, check erstlaub.bandcamp.com/

How do you connect the oscilloscope to your rack? Do you use this MCX Probe? It tried it with mine, but the results were not that good as yours. Can you tell me the settings you are using for this video?

Hey! Just wondering... "Just for fun, here's all 6 channels being used as decay envelopes, sequenced by the beatstep pro." Is that using Seq1 and Seq 2, or Drum Gates, or a mix?

Really wish you could choose to CV the level of the decay envelopes instead of the time... I'd love having 6 velocity sensitive decay envelopes.

Already got a reply from Olivier, the workaround is to "create your decay envelope as a HOLD + RAMP segment. Set the time of the HOLD segment to the minimum setting. You can now CV the level by modulating the HOLD segment."

You could use a hold stage (red) and a decay to make 3x velocity sensitive decays i guess.

Would you use an accent for the hold segment? I have a midi to trigger/accent module and want the ability to have accents/velocity as well.

Is it just me or is the shape knob doing different curves for different stages - it seems like all the way to the right is Exponential for attack, but Logarithmic for release/decay. Seem weird.

You're correct, the slopes are going in opposite directions I guess so the shape knob does too. It seems weird but after a couple of minutes you just get used to it and it's not a problem.

Yeah, I just wish they were identical for every slope, there doesn't seem to be a good reason to change their polarity - you may get used to it, but it is likely very confusing when you are first learning the module, especially if you don't have an oscilloscope.

this is because with exponential envelopes it's common for the rising times to be log and falling stages to be expo. So left most turn on the mini pot is log rise, expo decay.

@@DivKid @Erstlaub I'm confused by what is shown in the video from 1:44 to 2:20 for the 2 stage Attack Decay envelope. What is shown in the video for log and exponential is backwards from what is shown in the manual examples. In the manual, left most turn (fully counterclockwise) on both stages would create an exponential attack and log decay. Was there an update to the firmware that made this backwards or am I missing something?

I can't really remember. I expect it'd likely just be some noise sources from QR2, probably Plaits and some self oscillating filters into Blinds and Optomix at a guess...

Old busted cable + scissors = dummy plug x 2

It's just a new 3.5mm jack that I haven't soldered a cable to. you can just use a regular patch cable and not plug the other end in but this was to hand and keeps stray cables from getting in the way.

Can u sync the lfo to external source?

Yep, if you wanted, you could sync 6 different LFOs to 6 different clocks (I somettime use one stage set as an LFO and divide it down with another stage).
