The Tecsun ICR-110 Portable AM FM MP3 radio surprised me by its MW(AM) sensitivity and selectivity. Also the FM reception is on par with my best radios. That may have something to do with its 26" antenna.

I was looking for a FM AM radio with a record feature that was better quality then my Audiomax SRW-810. I found an awesome radio, with similar audio recording capabilities.
The best features of this radio are:
AM-Medium wave reception..Wow, its really good! Showcased a little of this in the video.
FM reception is one of the best!
Digital tuner and Back lit LCD display.
Numeric keypad for direct entry of the stations.
Rechargeable battery.
Sound quality is very good. Nice tone response, wished it had a bass/treble control to make it even better.
At the end of the day I found a great FM AM receiver, that doubles as a MP3 Playback device.

It's a Tecsun AN-200. Works well during the day. Really cleans up marginal signals. I learned to place it perpendicular to the radio as close as possible.

I too have used it with the AN-200. I was in Hong Kong and it picked up the BBC WS on 1413kHz from Oman.

As always, todderbert, thank you for all the reviews! I bought this radio a few weeks on eBay and just got notification from USPS that’s it out for delivery so I should have it in a few hours. My ICR-110 will have chinese text on the radio button labels, but an english manual which isn’t a big deal since the buttons are intuitive anyway. Excited to take it for a test spin when it gets here!

It surprised me with its reception. I'm a little disappointed with its recording capability, but if one used it to record/playback on the same device it should be good. Also to let you know the internal loop stick is around three inches. There is so much room in there, they could have put in a longer one.

10:29 "Little bit of noise" I have same model. It records AM band to micro SD card fine, but when recording FM band, static type noise is produced live and on the recorded file, so it's not just your radio. Everything else about this radio is great.

I wonder if recording from the INPUT-LINE is quieter. He likes the Tecsun Q3 because it records with minimal noise from INPUT line. Is the ICR-110 similar, better or worse than the Q3 when using the input line? Todd? Anyone?

Good sound, good AM/FM performance, and the ability to record... If it only had a sleep function I'd be listening to one right now. Honestly, every digital radio that runs off batteries should have this function. Maybe I'm just less responsible than everyone else, but I know without an off timer, I will be going through batteries faster than I can charge them.

This set allows you to select 9 or 10 kHz tuning steps on AM (press and hold the Voice Folder while on AM). You can also tune in 1 kHz increments which is handy for DXing although to do that you have to enter the full frequency each time you want to tune. It also makes a handy recorder and extension speaker for any other radio, just connect it to the LINE IN in MP3 mode.

Reminds me of the Tecsun PL 880 in style. I have both the Tecsun PL 880 and 600. Do great on AM up to about 800 khz. After that they don't perform as well. Noise and harmonics from other stations mostly in the daytime. How does this radio perform with lower powered stations in the daytime? Say 250 watts at less then 80 miles distant. Thanks.

Thank you for your superb review. You've all but convinced me that I should buy this! If you wouldn't mind a question, please: For voice recording, do you think this would be adequate? Context: I would be using this to record a 3-day voice conference (just once a year), which is streamed by FM broadcast. I'd then like to listen back on a car radio (via SD). It does irk me slightly that this only records @128/32 (not 320/44.1). You also mention the presumed lack of shielding between circuits. Are either of these deal-breakers? Thank you once again! :-)

I bought one...and am glad I did. I think just having the recording feature is awesome, at least for casual use. Stop button on mine does the same thing, just restarts the record playback. The main thing I miss is a key for single step manual tuning; that's a major omission IMHO. Also I would like finer volume increments; at times the unit is either too quiet or too loud. I agree, this is a good buy! Thanks for doing this review! -Chuck

I'm still using my Audiomax SRW-810 for recordings. I compared them side by side and I liked the recorded quality created by the Audiomax. The stop button, I figured it would stop, that's why I did a wtf moment in the video when it wouldn't stop. Too funny. I agree on the 1step tuning, at least we can still enter it in manually, and that works in a pinch.

Good evening, I understand that the Tecsun Q3 has the capability of automatically saving a recorded file in one hour segments. Do you know of other recorders that also have that feature? I own the Sangean DAR-101 and the PR-D8, both can save one hour files. Is there anything in Tecsun, Kaito, Degen, Retekess or others that can do this? I like to record one to three hour talk shows that I would like to save in one hour files. If the recorder had an AM and or FM radio, that would be even better. Line in is a must have. Thanks! Not totally related,but do you have any plans to review the qodosen sr286? It's really got a buzz around it,as it has a chip normally used for car radios,and is super-sensitive,from what I've read.

Been revisiting this radio and it has a better MW performance than I first gave it credit for. Just wish you could manually tune besides the ATS, considering the internal antenna is directional I end up doing an ATS with the radio facing different directions. Still a nice piece of kit for the money though, I use it to record SW from the Xhdata amongst other things.

Thanks for your great videos. I have a tip & suggestion for you. First of all, I believe you can include popular music in your videos as long as you include the title & artist in your video title. This radio/MP3 player has SUPERB sound!!! I would like to send you my MP3 version of the song Daytona by Chris Rea. For years I would play this song over my dj system after I set up the speakers to make sure everything sounded great. It is a great song to test speakers. My version of this song was made using my Square Wave Elimination And Dynamic Range Enhancement process. I can attach it to an email for you to play on the Tecsun ICR-110. Or you can download it from my Google Drive.

My ICR-110s (I have two) and PL-880 (both with passive radiator speaker) have the best sound out of all of my portable radios. The smaller ICR-100 also has the same type of speaker, and the sound is also great. I find myself using the mp3 microSD disc player a lot.

I may have to check out the ICR-100. I have three Q3s that I like to use for recording. Very small and I can run them without batteries connected to USB mains.

Just recorded 5 and a half hours of my favorite Sunday FM program (Sunday Baroque [ sundaybaroque.org/listen/ ] ) using my ICR-110. Great classical program, I could listen all day, but don't have the time - so recording it and listening to it later works out great. The Tecsun records in a few seconds over :59 files ( i.e. REC001F ) then 2F etc. and so on. I like to use my ICR-100 also to listen - the sound is just great. And they both take microSD cards.

I reviewed this on Amazon, the silver color one. Very good dx'er and recorder, it's main selling point. One feature you missed is the option of recording with the volume turned off, very handy at night. A great cheaper alternative to the C Crane Witness, the Tecsun almost 1/4 the price with a better battery layout. I agree, the battery last a long time. Nice review- a new subscriber-

This is a very helpful review. I would like a radio that records on the Line-in which unfortunately my Kaito KA29 does not. Thought about this one but will now avoid it for recording. Appreciate the insight. Any radios or devices that you would recommend for recording radio shows and playing them back?

A good recorder I use on a regular basis is the Tecsun Q3: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QWQ8wzKODiw.html , I use it with my Sangean radios during the E-Skip season...it is amazing. Line in is nice, and will monitor, so you can turn it down without affecting record volume.

On Anon-co they sell the 990x in a kit version with a nice hard plastic case and other accessories. One of them is the Tecsun ICR-100 recorder. I wonder how this recorder compares with the Q3. If it was as good as the Q3 it would make this kit a very nice package indeed.

Hi, Nice radio recorder, Reminds me of my youth when I use to record from the radio to cassette tapes. Good Times!I’m sending back that Tivdio V115, It’s not what I expected, The fm band was the only one that worked right, Bummer, mw And sw bands had loud buzzing noise on them, Talk to ya later 🤘

Yeah, I had that loud buzzing sound on one I ordered and returned back a few months ago. My new one was labeled Retekess and worked the same as my original Tivdio.

Could have been a sample defect. I wanted a radio that could record AM (MW) to play back later. Bought a Retekess V115 and Tecsun ICR-110 at same time to try both. On the ICR-110 I received both AM and FM were pretty deaf; couldn't pick up many local stations. Returned it the same day. The Retekess was better, although more background hiss on AM than with other radios (Tecsun PL-660 and Radiwow), but decided to keep the V115 as it was so inexpensive. So, my results are quite a bit different than yours.

I opened mine up it has a un-shielded wire from antenna crossing over board I relocated it it helped a little, my grip were the spurious whistles on 640 am, also on both I own the AUX jack took a dump on me cheap, other than that I loved the recording function

i enjoy AM medium wave listening. I have a CCrane EP and an Aiwa transistor hand held Model CR-AS7. The Aiwa cost me $15 on E bay and at night is better for Dx'ing in my rural location in mountainous NE Pennsylvania. Any other pure AM medium wave radios you would recommend?

The Realistic 12-655, which I'm reviewing. Also the Panasonic RF-1551 is amazing! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_4lO-M21PfQ.html . Most AM only Panasonics are a sure thing. They built them to be super sensitive, and to last. The Made in Japan are the ones to look out for.

Pretty nice, just now watching this 11/14/2021 I am on the fence on this one, it is just AM/FM so I don't see the attraction, other than I really do like it I don't need another radio LOL There are quite a few radio's out there that have these features now

Thanks for your video. I've ordered this radio. I have decades of experience as a mobile DJ, and I have produced over 600 album tracks on my 32 gig card. I have eliminated all square waves & increased the dynamic range with my S.W.E.A.D.R.E. process. Can you tell my if I can use the numeric keypad to enter the track number I want to hear?

Give him a 310ET. Much more versatility. Otherwise a nice mainstream radio like the Sony 506 or the Panasonic 2400D.

He is a bit old, yo u know. i know pl310et is amazing but i thought he would may be happier with bigger speaker. So I am looking for tecsun cr1100 tecsun a9 or this, icr110... i would want to give him eton field bt but it is expensive for me now,,...... just only for fm reception if you say pl310et is really better than icr110, i wont buy it and give my pl310et. Than you

@@Aliveli-fq5zt give him the 310. The 310 tunes the FM band very well and gives you tons of presets. If he loves digital, a good Sangean maybe one to think about.

what exactly does voice folder / music folder do?

The Voice folder is where the radio stores it's own recordings. The music folder is for the files you supplied on the SD card. It keeps them separated for playback. I find this feature very handy.

I put on my headset and it played stereo and records in stereo. Not sure why you said it was FM Mono.

So you need headphones for stereo, as it does not come with headphones. I consider this to be mono radio. I just bought one in the UK advertised as stereo so I assumed it was a new upgraded model, but as far as I can make out it is the same as the US version but with no SD card. I have complained, but all they do is tell me what is written on the "manual"

on AM yes. Though if you need a good AM digital radio you should look into buying a Sangean.

@@todderbert there is no sangean radio here in the Philippines.. i cant find one who offers that radio sir.. i have retekess tr604 whish is statix most of the time and panasonic 2400d which is a lot clearer in am... .. but i want to have a digital radio this time.. its retekess v115 and retekess tr602 are available here.. . Plus tecsun digital radio which is way expensive than retekess.. is it worth it? V115 cost 750 pesos while tecsun 110 cost p 1600 pesos.. i will appreciate your reply.. thanks again

. I chose to buy A110 because it had the alternative input which I hope will allow me to use it as a speaker on my portable computer, laptop. Also if it works as a speaker off my telephone, so much the better. I ordered the red one but if I knew it also came in white I may have chosen white. I like to avoid the boring dark Gray that almost everything is made in. I bought this one much as a toy to play with because in my location I hear lots of foreign language that I don't understand. I also skipped the radios which cover higher frequency bands, up to 29.99 because those bands including CB are almost totally in the language I cannot understand. I am looking forward to seeing how the 110 carries the audio frequencies of classical music. Shipping to my location from China was free and the price lower than people here are citing. I hope the China one I will get will accommodate foreign type electric plugs and sockets. Buying from China is still an iffy proposition but their prices are always lower.

It is isolated by copper shielding. That was a smart move by Tecsun. I have seen this same type of shielding in Sangean radios.

@@colbygavin834 There is a station in Cuba that I can get every so often on the bottom of the MW band which is 1700 miles away, and a few mexican stations. But the one I can get on a consistant basis is CBK 540AM Watrous, SK 1,025 Miles

Bummer, in the US this radio does rather well with it's larger internal ferrite antenna.
