Aww, I got all warm and fuzzy when Eddie mentions the Helios console at Olympic. I used to work at Olympic as a techie. The Helios was long gone when I was there but I had the chance to use and maintain the old EMI TG console. Great times.

Mmh, unsing 2 U47 is a good advise, for sure, but people asking for recording with two mics only do have probably no 2 or 1 of them at hand :). You could easily buy 10 very good mics for the price of these 2.

Typically , regarding rock music , today , isn’t everything recorded digitally even if multi-tracked or straight input to CPU regardless ? (Self recording guitar player) meaning we don’t even use analog tape anymore or barley?

You both put reverb on the vocal? I heard it was print-through from leaving the tape rewound, instead of tails-out.
@devongraves8577
@devongraves8577 6 лет назад
I heard that originally too, but if you investigate, the timing between the lead vocal and that reversed echo is not constant. I changes in time from echo to echo, and is not an exact repeat of the lead vocal. It was bleed on the overheads from the scratch vocal track. So he put reverb on that to highlight it since they couldn't hide it or get rid of it.
@devongraves8577
@devongraves8577 6 лет назад
Or headphone bleed rather than overheads. I can't remember which.

midnightsun's Avatar midnightsun #12 6th February 2013 The Eddie Kramer Experience Took a class a good number of years ago where Eddie Kramer was the guest instructor-- Duquesne University. This was a multiday class but a good number of participants who flew in from all over the country walked out before the class was finished because Mr. Kramer was such a jerk. He is one of the most arrogant, self agrandizing individuals I have ever met. The point of his lessons always came back to how important he was as he romanticised his buddyhood with Jimi Hendrix. (not a terrible thing but was a waste of time) I presumed Mr. Kramer was a decent engineer but an educator he is not. I recall watching in sadness and amazement as belittled and vented his frustrations and impatience on the younger students at Duquesne University. Individuals that were more mature and seasoned were appalled. (This I do consider a major character flaw.) If Eddie Kramer was having a bad day or going through a rough time in his life he could have sent out an apology letter or note. Duquesne University refunded tuitions for those of us that requested such and apologized. For those of you who attend, I hope that you can come back and report that he has matured in his teaching and interpersonal skills. In the years that I have been a member of this forum I have never ranted on anyone or anything. Since this free forum is being used to market a high dollar commerical enterprise, I think that it is fair of me to give my opinion based on personal experience in the free, open forum. If Mr. Kramer has the courage to personally step up and make a comment that would be more than welcome.

A pair of 47s runs about $50,000. If someone can only afford two mics, it’s not going to be those. Out of touch much?
