*CCD* Pros: -Flexible power draw - can be run at both 9v and 18v -Runaway oscillation doesn't disappear when you turn the rate knob all the way to the left -Utilizing an MXR Tap Tempo allows you to set subdivision, modulation on/off AND bright/dark, essentially giving you two pedals in one at the touch of a button Cons: -Original Carbon Copy lovers, this is NOT the same sound! Delays sound dryer, more compressed -Logarithmic mix knob takes some getting used to *Rubberneck* Pros: -More features (tails, rubbernecking/regen, FX loop) and tweakability -Louder repeats, more audible in a band setting -All features in this pedal are mounted on the front; no bullshit hidden switches you have to remove the back to access Cons: -Inflexible, massive power draw (250 mA 9vDC to the CCD's 44 mA 9v/18vDC) -Delay modulation is only switchable on-the-fly via the bulky FS3X footswitch whose other two buttons basically repeat the functions of those already included on the pedal (unless you count instant rubbernecking, which I don't care for)
One essential pro regardin the Rubberneck in my opinion : It has an effect loop which means you can modulate your delayed signal with literally anything, which makes it exponentially more powerful than the CCD thanks to this alone.
@@Dopamint I agree- the effects loop makes the DOD very versatile. And I like the way it sounds better than my original CC. My bass player plays that CC now.
Thanks for the info, but how do you know the MXR Carbon Copy Deluxe can be run at 18V DC? The manual states 9V DC. Do you get a tonal difference running at a higher voltage?
I was tossing up between these pedals today. Both sound great. There's something about the tail decay on the MXR that's just beautiful, but the versatility of the DOD won me over and I ordered a Rubberneck.
I get that it has a dry kill switch, but still, why make all the useful mix settings in the upper 20% of the pot's range? Oh well, minor complaint I guess.
Carbon Copy DLX sounded more percussive and defined with way less static noise in compare to the DOD Rubberneck. I honestly preferred CC DLX more. Thanks!
Rubberneck eats Carbon Copy. The first repeat of the Carbon Copy is a lot of louder than the other. This is for me a problem with others analog delays. Rubberneck sounds more natural, more dimensional. I had a pair of Echoplex delays with the same problem. I don't understand the reason to make a delay with that problem. My pair of old Deluxe Memory Man sound amazing, with the repeats in the right level, and not the first louder louder than the others.
Yeah but if I wanted those prominent and loud delay then I should've went to digital delay. I don't own both but loud delays doesn't fit most of songs, it just ends up being muddy. I don't own both but it's what I'm hearing from this video.
thanks! the name rubberneck sounds like it will sound rubbery which I like but not sure the others are not more rubbery. i like the DOD still tho. EDIT No NO NO I take that back! It does have a rubbery function! hold the left switch down and it stretches the signal like a rubberband! YES!
Rubberneck delay sound is much louder, which I specifically don't like. The reason I went to analog delay is because I don't want the loud perfect replica of digital delay as it muddies up my songs.
I own several analog delays - vintage and newer. CC is my fav.. I own the rubberneck. I don’t like it at all. I just cannot get it to do an in between delay. It’s either super short or self oscillating like crazy. Also the gain and tone section - both controls seem to make the repeats suuuuuper crunchy basically immediately. There is no in between. Idk if my unit is defective but I’m not a fan.
I like the Rubberneck but I view it more as an ambient effect than a delay. In other words, it's not the kind of delay pedal that you can use for all songs that have delay. I don't have the self oscillation problem you have though, maybe you got a bad one. My main issue is the Level control. Basically makes the repeat go from inaudible when all the way turned counter clockwise to as loud as the dry signal when you turn the nob to the right the tiniest bit. And that's with the gain set to minimum. That said, I do like the pedal.
actually, when the right settings were used i liked the rubberneck better. This was when the tone was lower, and when mod was compared (it had better chorusing)
I just literally bought the CC DELUXE this week and it sounds amazing. Had the original CC at one point but I love the extra features on this. TT is a must!
Trying to decide between the MXR, DOD and EH deluxe memory boy and Cusack tap a delay. I like a warm analog repeat, control over modulation amount, low noise and subdivisions.
Question for Delay Dude; you have the time on the Rubberneck pretty high and the level but at least over 'youtube' I am not hearing much if and clock noise, if I had mine set like that running into the front of an amp it is really obvious. What was is like being there in front of it?
@@delaydude What are you powering it with? I think I am mistaken and it is not clock noise but the white BBD hiss noise. If I turn my tone pot all the way up like you have it and have the time up the much the white noise is very noticeable. Currently I am using a MXR iso-brick and I have a Voodoo pedal power 2 and it happens with both supplies (and I am using outlet's that have the high mA rating) Maybe your power supply is just that much quieter? Thanks
@@delaydude I really appreciate that. I just watched the video through a couple times because I thought that during a close up of the DOD the tone was dimed but no, it never was, it was always at 2 or less. wtf?!? I don't even do drugs anymore, it's disappointing to be so wrong.(ha) Again thanks, my pedal generates much less noise in the fx loop and with the tone knob 2 o'clock or less. Also having the level less then noon helps. I've found dialing in a little gain will give a percussive feel to the repeats that is carbon copy-esque.
CC Deluxe has a major flaw - the output is set too low. You have to crank the mix level up to hear the repeats. It's a good delay but I'd take the DOD - or even better, a JHS Panther (if I can find one at a reasonable price, they are rare as hen's teeth, unlike the Panther Cub, but that one has a few glitches of its own)
I just think the Rubberneck sounds way better. To me the CCD is like an amp where I don't like the way the mids sound. Unlike most of these demos, in this one I never have to check which one I'm listening to.
