Hi Elmo. Thanks for your excellent work. If I'm right, the 3 modes are in different order: High=LED clipping=RAT style Middle=OP amp=BD2 style Low=Assymetrical Silycone=Tubescreamer So.....I think that you already liked a RAT style, which, by the way, I do too! Keep on!!!

DoD 250 is famous for being the 2nd HARD-CLIPPING pedal (came out in 1977), and it uses Silicon diodes (as opposed to MXR dist PLus which is the 1st hard-clipping pedal -1974- but uses Germanium diodes which give it the characteristic "hairy" or "fuzzy" sound ). Overdrive is a SOFT-CLIPPING device, the first one made by Boss in 1977 (OD-1) and uses Asymmetrical arrangement of diodes. Tube Screamer (1979) uses Symmetrical clipping because they couldn't just flat-out copy the Boss's schematic. Boss SD-1, my favorite, is the same as OD-1 but with added Tone control (which Boss, in turn, stole from the Tube screamer circuit). If the pedal uses LED diodes (usually red ones) in soft-clipping arrangement, it tends to have a bit more saturation, a bit more aggression (Marshall Bluesbreaker 2, the new one, not the vintage one) So, in a nutshell - distortion pedals use hard-clipping, overdrives use soft-clipping - which, technically, makes Dod-250 a distortion pedal, not an overdrive. Had one...sold one...I couldn’t find the sweet spot...after a month if any pedal I buy doesn’t workout it’s on the block to be sold...I find it funny that I still pretty much end up using the tried and true gear like Boss, EHX, MXR & Dunlop...although I recently bought the Xotic Super Clean 12db boost pedal and that really breathed new life into the tried and true...Another Great Video...Thanks Elmo!

I think it sounds ok. Im still using a digitech df-7. It sounded so much like my tube screamers, ds1,and metal zone i sold them all. Even has a nice big muff tone.

Sounded pretty good. I still have yet to see an OD that surpasses the Malmsteen-one, but I could definitely make good use of this one considering I'm a simple living room-player. Definitely. But on another topic, will we be seeing a continuation to that one Strat you got in order to scallop? Other than that I have no further comment, Elmo Educating at a none-kicking distance Karjalainen.

I really liked your playing here. No offense, but sometimes your shredding can get to be a little much sometimes (as impressive as it is of course!). I like your format and reviews man.. Keep up the great work!!!

We are in April 2020 and you still got a complex with your name... what the hell? After trying different clipping methods with several circuits, I still prefer the LED type of sound. But it depends of the colour of the LEDs, because they don't operate at the same voltage... sometimes difference can be subtle.

Don't just compare the switch settings with the output set the same. Yes the middle position flubs the amp out with the gain jacked because the middle position will give u around +26db in level where the LED and Diode modes give you about +20db. So in the middle position u r crushing the input of the amp with pure level...like a clean boost all the way up. The other modes drop the output 6db-ish. Also starting with the tone "at noon" is cutting hi end and creating murkiness right the more u drop the gain. That's a cut only lowpass, like on most od's.

Sounded okay. I still think you should try out a Lawrence Petross - 68 or 87, either one.

Hey Elmo, you forgot to try it maxed out on each toggle mode...

I thought the fender sounded better. Like it had more mids or something. The mxr was farty and not enough clarity it seems At least listening to it via YT.
