Years ago: I had erratic engine performance ("limp-mode") so took out my 1996 LS400 ECU and recapped it, laid it on the floor-mat and the car would not even engage the starter motor! Months pass. Then I bought a tested old ECU - an exact match on eBay and installed it: and the car STILL would not even engage the starter motor! Years pass, and while having my wife's van oil changed the manager asked where is my LS400 (He used to work at a Lexus dealership) and I told him about my old Lexus not even starting after 2 ECU changes and he said: "Oh, if you disconnect the ECU or change any critical components then you could trigger the anti-theft system, and that's why it wont even turn-over." That made sense to me, because I DEFINITELY messed with the electronics! ...and then he said "It's easy to fix, 1st you close the hood and trunk, close and lock all of the doors, and then put the drivers key into the drivers door lock, and within 15 seconds you Un-lock, then Re-lock, Un-lock, then Re-lock, Un-lock, then Re-lock then Un-lock the door, open it and sit in the drivers seat (sensor), put in the key, and start the car." I was amazed at his expertise. So I went home and did what he advised, and the car instantly started for the 1st time in 6 years! It started so fast that I attempted to re-start it while it was running because LS400's are SO quiet! The "Limp-Mode was still there and I cleaned, then replaced the MAS - still Limping. Then I replaced the 2 TPS sensors, and that fixed it. I took both of the old sensors apart and found 1 of the potentiometers had a worn/intermittent spot, and that was probably my problem in the 1st place - but at least my ECU has new Caps from DigiKey now! Got new license plates and insurance, and am driving it now. P.S. Bravo on your health!
The whole point of my post above is to thank you for showing how the ECU (the 2 sub-modules @7:24 ) fit back into and under the CD player @18:25 because I COMPLETELY forgot how I had removed it from the dash 6+ years ago!
My ECU is not communicating. ECU was replaced with a rebuilt 1. Car starts but won't rev up. It dies when gas pedal is pressed. I would appreciate any suggestions and help.
@@Ed1999-lu3gp having that same issue in my 1991, it’s like it’ll barely start if I can get it running and die if you try to give it more than slight gas at a time. Right now it just cranks but no start, thinking it’s my ecu. any luck??
@@noahbarnaby4871 Mine was fuel pump. I spend $3000 replacing parts until a mechanic tested the fuel pressure and measured the electric current the pump was drawing. Pump was drawing higher than normal current and the pressure was 10 psi instead of 40-45 psi.
English as a second language TIP on pronunciation of "MFD" or "MicroFarad" is either "M, F, De" or "Micro-Fare-Ad". (Not simply: "Micro-Fare" it needs a clear "De" at the end. Wiki the scientist "Farad".) Liked and subscribed!
Hello , Good day If you mention this , so you should know about what its called DLC , my car Lexus ls 400 95 model amircan specs, have DLC under the dash , So its use to connect E1+TE1 .( using jumber wire ) , then the engine light start flashing, and you can count the lights and know the code error number . And if you connect the jumper in DLC in the engine , between E1+TE1 . The check engine light also stay will flashing to count. Or tey connect Bluetooth OBD2 to the OBD port ( I don't know if OBD was knowing in that time , but thers a port down there ) Good luck
