My $3,000 Mistake... Sony 12-24 GM vs 14 GM 

I have the 14 GM and LOVE IT. My travel combo is the 14/1.8, 35/1.4 and 85/1.8 with my A7R5, which covers most of my needs and requires only a small backpack and light tripod.

I have the Sony14mm that I use for real estate photography and I love it. It's a great lens and I look forward to trying it out on some astrophotography soon.

I have the 14GM but I don't do anything with it, was a gift from a girl I was dating... I'll bring it on holidays to Indonesia though for some landscape shots

Yea i have the 14GM too. Its so light small and sharp enough for most use. Such that I just skip the 16-35. I just crop abit from the 14gm if i need to. Then for longer reach i just use the other primes or 24-70.

Howsit Spencer, I love using my 12-24 GM although I hate lugging around a 150mm filter kit! I do also own the 14GM, I do have a Nisi adapter for it that allows use of the 100mm system! So a little less weight to carry around…😂

I love my A7C, Tamron 17-28mm and 28-75mm. I wish I had some fast primes, but for me I'm just trying to get all my primary photography and video lens requirements in two, sometimes three lenses.

Yes our thoughts are similar. I’ve been using my Fujinon 16-55mm almost 90% of the time for landscapes and if I need a wider shot my Fujinon 14mm prime does the job. Awesome vlog Spencer 🙏🏼

Also as smoke and maybe beer will splash onto the front lens. What have you used to wipe the glass that works for you?

Spencer. Think 14 or 12-24 GM is better at a baseball stadium taking fireworks show? Thinking both will be at 2.8 or 3.2 at ISO 800 or 1600. Will be at Yankees stadium above press box. (Middle up from field in height). I want most of the aerial fireballs and both wings of the stadium. Would 14 be wide enough is my concern. I know my 16-35 GM would not be. Thanks

Agreed. I have the 14mm - the lightness (I hike a lot into the backcountry and up mountains) and incredible sharpness are a joy to behold - combined with the incredibly light 16-35mm PZ, I don't think the weight and cost of 12-24mm is worth it. At least not for my use.

How do you set your camera settings for the timelapse if the light changes from bright to dark to bright and so on? Do you use auto iso?

Viltrox 16 1.8 is less than half the price of the 14GM though.

have you tried the Sigma 14-24?

I don't care about the weight or size, its not that much. With the 14mm, I'm forced to buy the 24 GM too. Those 2 will weight more, take more room in the bag, and delay my work for having to switch all the time. Only reason to get the 14, is astro, and that won't work for me due to light pollution where I live. I own the 14mm and regret not buying the 12-24 GM.
