This video is a description of my 2012 Triumph Tiger 800XC. It includes my perceptions of this bike as an adventure motorcycle, the role this motorcycle played in the development of the mid-size adventure motorcycle. It includes photos and video footage of my 2012 Tiger 800XC in California, Oregon and Washington.

Triumph got it right from the start. Which is amazing, actually. And thank you for your comment.

I keep trying to talk myself into selling my 2012 tiger 800, then I ride it for a whole day and realize that comfort and go anywhere ability will be hard to beat without spending way more money on a comparable new bike. She’s a keeper and reliable and easy to do most service on myself.

About to buy an 800XC as my first adv bike. I also LOVE riding the Oregon coast! The most beautiful place in the US!

Nice Video. I own a 2012 Tiger 800xc since 2019. bought with 23.000. Now it has 78.000 km on the dash. Many km on dirt and mud. Long range travveling an clmmuting also. I never had trouble with the stepper motor. But I clean this area when I do the service every 10.000 km. 😊. Mostly I ride with ktm or yam T7 guys. And the Tiger does all the same shit as the others do. From fast gravel to single trails. And it do long distances realy comfortable! I will ride till it breaks unrepaerable! ❤

That’s perfect. You described exactly what I believe this bike can do. New bikes have improved electronic aids. But other than that, this more than 10 years old Tiger 800XC is as capable as the new, similar size, adv bikes. And as its value decline, riding until it is broken is the way to go. :-) Thank you for your comment.

Thank you for the video. As a “new” second season rider, I chose a 2012 tiger 800. Coming from a bmw 06 f650gs I felt the same as you, I cannot stop riding it when I get on… It showed me a new world what riding can be, with its comfort and easy handling.

Thanks for this article! I have the exact same bike and have owned it for 2yrs now. I contemplate trading it for something slightly more dirt worthy, but its road manners are so nice and it's off road capability still surprises me.. I can only afford one bike to do it all and this attractive bike does that. Maybe I'll keep it for a little while longer.. :)

This bike is basically the first year (2011 model was the first year but it was a short production period) of a completely new model line at Triumph (first adv bike of this generation). I'm impressed on how well built it is. Keep it if you can. Thank you for your comment.

I rode my buddy's Tiger 800 and now I want one. Expensive ride. I think the first gen would work well for me. I'm not used to electronic crap. Have never had an injected bike.

The perfect video for me. I am currently riding a 2001 BMW F650GS, single cylinder. Today I looked at a very reasonably priced 2013 Tiger XC ABS, I knew there had to be some downsides to this bike due to the dealer price on it. I am still interested but not sure it is exactly what I want, the price is attractive but..... Thanks for your video, it came at just the right time. I love my 650GS, the only things that really bother me are the buzzyness of the handlebars at highway cruising speeds that make my hands go numb, and the air buffeting it all ready has a higher windshield than OEM. Thanks for your review. Something to think about.
@idratherberiding3456
@idratherberiding3456 Год назад
Thank you, I appreciate your comments. And yes, the frame is a major problem, in my opinion. But when the price is right, it becomes less of an issue. The dust issue, I don't know when Triumph fixed it, but I bet they fixed it on later models.

On 2018 tiger 800 minor(big) change, they are improved it over 200 items. This may help for considering.

These bikes still hold up today great for beginners as they are cheaper and not everyone needs tons of expensive electronics the new expensive bikes have

Great vid very informative. I have been looking at tigers and the gs. I cant get dirt riding out of me but still want something comfortable to ride long days.anything would be more comfortable than my dr650. Cheers subbed.
@idratherberiding3456
@idratherberiding3456 9 месяцев назад
Thank you! DR650's are historical machines. The Tiger, even these bikes of the first years, are another level if you do long days on the road. I'm actually taking mine for a short ride today.

Are you running tubes in the tires? Are they Shinko?

Yes, these are tubed tires (those 2012 rims are for tubed tires). And yes, they are Shinkos.

Great video and helping me make a decision....I only ride road, 2 up...and read the XC is the better option to the XR. Do you agree? I like the feel sitting on the XC , but never test ridden.
@idratherberiding3456
@idratherberiding3456 28 дней назад
If by XR you are referring to the BMW 100XR, I have to say I prefer a three cylinder than a four cylinder motor, so the 800XC it would be. But that is a purely personal choice. :-)
@davidcunningham1585
@davidcunningham1585 28 дней назад
@@idratherberiding3456 I'm sorry I wasn't clear...I mean the XC like your Tiger and the street version Tiger XRX? Cast wheels and smaller wheels than the spokes on th 800XC...XC felt VERY comfortable to me
@idratherberiding3456
@idratherberiding3456 28 дней назад
@@davidcunningham1585 Got it. Well, comparing the XC with the XRX, because I like riding on dirt, the XC is my choice. If I was not comfortable with the seat height, and I would only or primarily ride on pavement, the XRX is a very nice option. And probably priced better!
