I also tried the Cosrx vitamin c serum. Super affordable, I keep it in the fridge (not a skincare fridge, just the kitchen fridge) and it lasts longer. I also wait until I get a 20% off coupon to make my purchases. Sometimes I splurge in between if I can. 😊 I just wanted to mention, I also keep it in the box to avoid the light 😅
The vanicream vitC is a great antioxidant product! I really hate the term "affordable" or "budget" as it pertains to skincare/makeup/fashion... Those words mean different things to different people. I truly believe there are great skincare products at every price point. I'm not a professional by any means... Just skincare obsessed.lol the vanicream vitC has great ingredients. I would reach for this over many of the "high end" antioxidant serums.
I confess that now I'm confused.... I had an idea that the doctor had abandoned vitamin C in her morning routine and was using backuchiol.... On the other hand, although the product mentioned seems great, in my opinion the product of the year should be budget friendly to fit the name of the channel . Thanks for sharing 😊

I've also used Retin A for years, but every time I switch to something else, my skin looks awful and I break out. Nothing is ever as good, and I try it all.
Was your skin sensitive before using tretinoin? Because im planning to use it i think i can tolerate it cuz my skin is not sensitive at all.. but still a bit sceptical

If you use Tretinoin, you know that it will cause sensitivity, due to all types of seemingly unrelated factors, (other products, diet, etc…) and any number of strengths, depending upon your personal sensitivity. Over the years I’ve used dozens of strengths and formulations. Now I’m in a great place because I’ve simply found what works for me, instead of trying to do what people tout as the “gold standard” 😉
Love it! Some years ago I was looking for a substitute for mychelle dermaceuticals c-serum - it was so expensive. Saw the Drunk Elephant and was tempted but saw the Timeless as an alternative and have been using it since. If the PTR is newish, the hope is that there will be an affordable similarity to follow at some point.
Well this is very confusing! I just watched a video you did 6 days ago, in which you were saying how fabulous Avene RetinAl is, how important it is, and also the serum with Bakuchiol, and how you use them every day. Now I'm watching this from a couple of days after, in which you're saying that the best product is PTR Vitamin C Serum. Now I'm clueless as to which is the best, and why, and which ingredients are necessary to use, and when. You're not using all three at the same time, are you? I wish this could be simplified and easier to understand.
It seems she said to use the Bakuchiol, (found some at Marshalls ((Farm X)) for 7.00 and p/u))), over the Avene .... but ... maybe layer the ptr over that? All I know is that I just spent a good chunk of change on Australian Gold, La roch-posey, and some other things after watching the one where she did her PM/AM routines - which I loved! It simplified things. So ... she seems sharp and bet she'll go over the layering method. Had I watched this, I probably would have just gone with the PTR. Simple.
So from what ive seen in her videos. Theyre all good for different reasons and different times in your routine. You can use Vit C and Bakuchiol in morning, and at night use your Retinal. I believe you can use Bakuchiol with retinal at night, (retinal is a night only thing because it degrades in sunlight), also retinal and vit C can be irrating together at night. So Vit c is for the day. Bakuchiol works like retinal but can have less irritation and can be used in the day. When you watch her videos that are soley dedicated to one topic product youll see where that product fit in. Hope this helps:)
I find the Korean vitamin Cs much more affordable and still effective. I really liked the Vegreen, Cosrx, Make Prem and Kaine vitamin C serums. So much cheaper than all these
I started the Peter Thomas Roth , using in morning the bottle 20% and the jar at night and I’ve noticed a big difference already . It’s been 7 weeks . I’m also using The glycolic acid wash at night and the more gentle cleanser in the morning! I have dry skin, so I can’t use the glycolic acid both morning and night! Thank you !!
These are absolutely on the lower end of a very large range of product price points. A great value always from the very wise and practical Dermatologist.
@joannerowan6733 I actually hadn't used a Vit C product before, but I've found this hydrates my skin through the night - I was mostly looking for hydration. I've tried a lot of drugstore moisturizers, plus a couple from Tula and Inkey, and Roth has worked the best for my late 40s super dry skin, moisture wise. I can't say anything for fine lines/wrinkles because I don't mind my lines, tbh, so I haven't kept track of them.

I have so much antioxidant skincare, i cant justify spending over $100 on a vit c. I use naturium alongside a bunch of other lovely & hydrating ingredients. My vit c is my most expensive item at $25. For $105, I'd expect the same results you'd get from a deep phenol peel.
I haven’t tried this particular one before but definitely agree that THD works best. I have been using revisions 30% correcting THD vitamin C serum, which is the highest percentage out there I have found. It is the only skin care product I have ever really noticed a major difference with. Do you happen to know if it contains vitamin E or ferulic acid? Have you tried revisions before? If you have, I was curious if this Peter Thomas Roth one worked just as well or better since it is more affordable.
It is Revision 30% correcting vitamin C serum and it is non-irritating at all because it is THD form. Yes you can still use a retinoid at night because I use the vitamin C in the morning. And I have sensitive skin with eczema on my face.
I don’t like anything from Peter Thomas Roth. And, this is certainly not a budget brand. There are better vitamin C products in the same price range and even some that are cheaper.

A BUDGET FRIENDLY ALTERNATIVE I USE IS The Ordinary Resveratrol w/ ferulic acid put on post cleansing followed by The Ordinary Vitamin C Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F. I, personally, did not like some of the ingredients in the PTR product.

Thank you for the wonderful education and I trust your knowledge. I follow other Derms. and the inactive form of Vitamin C is never mentioned as the most effective. Maybe there needs to be more clinical studies. I would love to try the PTR, thank you.
I am sold by your info but I can't believe you dont even refer to the horrible smell. It reeks! I tried a tester at sephora and it smelled disgusting, almost nauseating. It did fade gradually but was a total turnoff. I wiil give it a try based on your experience. Do you have any suggestions to help get past this obstacle?
I’ve heard Vitamin C smells like hotdog 🌭 water 😂. I think the expensive Skinceuticals CE Ferulic serum smells bad too. I’ve never tried them, but a bad smell would be a turnoff 😂
If you mean the THD vit c, yes you can. There are some products that combine both THD and retinoids together in product. Though some of them are pricey.
Based on this video I paid $70 for the Peter Thomas Roth THD Vitamin C serum on sale, but the smell is awful. I happened to try the Cerave Vit C serum that comes in a tube and costs $20 and found it has so many moisturizers in it that I can tolerate the 10% L Ascorbic Acid. I will alternate the 2 products each morning to use up the Peter Thomas Roth but I won’t repurchase the Peter Thomas Roth.
This is great. So I have the basics down and now I need to know when do I add other products in a routine, products like the Inkey peptides, Marula oil, or hyaluronic acids.
So, i got two bottles of the vitamin c from ulta. On sale. Plus an ulta gwp. Then i got one of his moisturizers on sale. Looks good. I didn't see the vitamin c moisturizer. I wish i had seen this before lol, because ulta has had great gwps. They will again. The great thing - it was $186 in points. I used $186 in points. Zero cash Oh snap. I meant to add the avene. Next time. I might have it though. Every time I use the PTR, a voice will say, "THE PRODUCT OF THE YEAR "

Great video, thanks! I notice that the PTR moisturizer also has lactic acids, does it exfoliate (or is it a humectant) and is that formulation safe for every day use? For an affordable THD Vit C drug store version, I love Vanicream's THD Serum, it's $20 and easily found at the drug store.
I’m a bit unwilling to tack on another serum that costs $103 on top of the effective skincare I already have in place. None of my serums are in the $100 range and I purchase excellent serums. I’m willing to pay for good products, but $103 for a serum used daily makes me seriously question the logic of the purchase. Just checked and it’s $105 at Ulta. This makes me hesitant to subscribe to a channel claiming to be a budget dermatologist. I’m on a wait and see mode, if I find it on sale and it works beautifully I’ll trust her and subscribe.
I was just reading about this form of vitamin C on decoder. Sounds very promising however apparently there are no solid in vivo studies as of now. What is your opinion on this? Thanks for your expertise!
Has anyone ever tried the Elizabeth Arden capsules? I hear nobody talk about them. Are use hyaluronic and vitamin C. Granted. They are expensive. But I’m just curious if anybody knows if they’re really good or not. All I know is they feel good rich and creamy

Wahhhh .. They don't sell Avene Retrinal in Canada.. I don't know why and they won't even deliver it from Amazon from the US to Canada. Guess I'll have to go to the States to go get it Good thing I'm only 2 hours away LOL! They do however sell the Peter Roth here BUT a lot of complaints on the smell. Is this true ?? I was looking through your website and wanted to let you know that none of the links seem to be working. On some I get an error message and on others it seems like a sample page from the web designer and there’s no product info.
The ordinary has hexc, decal in their range of vit c. I think you need to purchase on line, at least I couldn't find it in Ulta when I wanted it. I really like this Texas, decal etc because it doesn't conflict as much as,"real" vit c. And it has been in the upper teens $$. Good luck!
Thank you so much. Like you I have tried many Vit C products but quit them all due to irritation. One request I have dry skin but also am prone to breakouts do you have a recommendation for a moisturizer that is more moisturizing than the Cerave nighttime lotion ?
I have acne-prone skin. The Differin Restorative NIght moisturizer is more moisturizing and zero breakouts. Can be used as eye cream too. I always buy it when it's on sale in Ulta. I wish it had more slip but I haven't found a Holy Grail Night time moisturizer that both works well, has no fragrance, is affordable, doesn't break me out (this one checks all those boxes) and has the perfect, joy-to-use texture. That said its not a bad texture, its a creamy lotion.
She gives options. She recommends where your money is best spent for products that deliver. It comes down to your choice of what you choose to purchase. Her channel is full of wonderful information so best to hold criticism, I feel.
I’m sorry but you are a dermatologist so I imagine at the very least you make $100k per year. Your budget is much bigger than mine. $100 product for just one part of my skin care routine is not in my budget.
Agree. I have said it before but people go crazy and attack me. She recommends way too many expensive stuff and that's fine but she should not call herself budget dermatologist
