I am 67. I started TRT through Peter MD about two months ago. In just a few days after starting, my mental alertness skyrocketed, and my energy is much better. My memory loss has been eliminated. I’ve purposely lost 75 pounds since January, and the TRT is helping with that. Although I’m a widower (1 1/2 years now) after 45 great years with my wife, ED has corrected without anymore little blue pills. Never thought I’d even look for companionship again, but my rejuvenated body has frankly caused me start…exploring again. 😮 I plan to post here after my next labs to provide a comparison.

I’m 62 and got my first injection this morning. My t level was 210 and the creams and gels weren’t taking any affect. I tried self injections but kept botching it up. So I finally got my urologist to just give me the injection every 14 days. I’m praying this works. Keep me posted. Thanks.

Hi, Just some clarifications because I’m not sure if you are following an endocrinologist in this process: - TRT it’s good IF needed; if your original levels of testosterone were in normal range the indication of replacement is not accurate, and its use is not innocuous, there are potential side effects in the short and long term - A sangaree (yeah, to donate blood is nothing more than that, pretty close to use leeches) is not a treatment for, what you are describing, a basically normal level of hematocrit and hemoglobin; in any case they solve the issue when the levels are too high, but it’s only a control of the sign, not of the source, and the source is: you are using testosterone! Teetostore increases level of hemoglobin and hematocrit. Thank you for sharing your journey; for more accuracy I suggests you to look for an endocrinologist or internal medicine specialist (I’m a surgical oncologist)

I believe the problem is not taking T on a daily cycle following the diurnal rhythm. That’s how I’m starting and we will see if anything gets elevated. Since it’s oil it takes 10-12 hours to spike so I plan evening injections so it aligns with a peak at 8am.

Hi John, nice relaxed presentation, you should do more of the spontaneous stuff! I have a full blood test every year now so I can compare my blood values, which are important to general health. From personal experience, recommend next time you include the Prostate Specific Antigen test (PSA) to keep tabs on your prostate, especially for those of us over 50. My last blood test showed up highly elevated values for PSA as I had inflammation of my prostate. We don't much like to talk about this subject but the fact is our prostate continues to grow. I personally highly recommend doing this test for peace of mind as with early diagnosis its treatable and curable.

Great video. Before starting TRT, really consult with someone about your bloodwork as well as your total health., consider certain lifestyle choices that can impact your hormonal profile. At 50 I was noticing I could not keep the same body composition, regardless what I tried. Felt a lack of libido. Saw all the hype of TRT and possible symptoms for considered usage. Got my blood tested. My total T was at 984, but my SHGB was 127. Basically this high SHGB was killing my free T. Was already taking Boron, Ashwagandha, and Tonka Ali to attempt to lower SHGB. Clearly not making a dent. Decided to try TRT and get my total T up to basically crush SHGB and increase my free T ratio. Over about 9 months definitely saw some benefits, but also saw some negative side effects like high blood pressure, worried about elevated DHT . Was doing additional research and found that extended intermittent fasting and extended restriction of carbs can raise SHGB (these levels also increase naturally as we age). I had been doing IF for years and reaped the benefits of keeping my body fat % below 13% or lower during summer. Decided to stop IF tweak my diet and retest blood after 3 months. Low and behold SHGB dropped to the 30's, in the lower range of normal. Decided to get off TRT and cycled some supplements to help jumpstart my natural production. Blood work at 3 months post last TRT dose had be back at 913 and SHGB at 37. Felt amazing again. Just my story, but may provide one of your viewers that TRT is a great option if you need it, but also look at the total picture before making the call.

There are ways to control or bring down hematocrit or high red blood cel count. Yes, donating blood works but when my doctor told me my levels were elevated the whole blood letting thing sounded kind of barbaric to me. Less booze, more exercise, stay hydrated, eat oatmeal -bran- (slows down iron absorption). I did these things and when I did my next blood panel my range was perfect. Personally I do NOT enjoy the dizzy, sick feeling of pulling enough blood to control this, especially over and over being that I have no plan on stopping the TRT…So, maybe that “sober October” and a more strict exercise regiment is exactly what you need! Good luck on your journey! Thanks again for your honesty and insight! In addition to all of you TRT haters and nay sayers, I am 57 and have been healthy exercising/training since I was 19, non stop! But when I turned 46 I was feeling tired, forgetful, weak after workouts and I thought I was sick. So, I went to a Dr and did a shit ton of tests. Low Test was the answer my Dr. Told me. What’s good for you is good for you..YAY here’s a trophy for being so perfect!!! Stop hating and let everyone do what’s best for them!! ❤❤

The thing is with TRT your body will just keep increasing red blood cells so you will end up with hematocrit problems at some point. There is no way to stop this, just resolve it temporarily. Of course, everyone's body works differently so the increase in HCT might be far slower for some. Unfortunately studies show older men increase HCT faster than younger men.

I started TRT about 9 using the same syringe/needle/vial combination that John talks about in the video. While I never had a problem with this method, it wasn't always the most convenient in terms of getting the measurement right, inection placement, traveling with supplies, etc. About a year ago, I switched to Xyosted. If you've ever seen an Epi-Pen, that's exactly what this looks like. It's already measured out, you never see a needle, and it's virtually painless. You inject it into your belly fat next to you navel, and I won't lie, you don't feel it. It's hurt more to pinch your fat than the injection itself. No mess, no fuss. It's truly been a game changer for me!

@@400exCrf450rRider Every few injections I may get a slight bump, but it’s usually gone within a day or so. What I’ll typically do is slightly massage the injection area for a couple of seconds to kind of even out the solution under the skin. I have some area on my belly area, so any bump is fairly hidden. I also alternate between the left side and right side of my navel, so if there were ever a slight bump, it’s completely gone two weeks later when I do the next injection on that side (this is a weekly protocol)

Glad to see it's working for you! Two days ago, I got my blood work results after one year on TRT (2x per week). Starting test levels were 239; latest was 993 (24.3 free test). The only levels that were out of kilter were slightly high estradiol, which comes with higher test levels, and my LDL/HDL levels, which are soooo slightly off but improving. Triglyceride levels were amazing! At 60, in one year I've lost 20 lbs total, gained 9 lbs of muscle and seen my energy levels increase dramatically. I'm stronger than I've ever been. Plus, my libido has been energized. It may not be for everyone, but older guys should get educated and consider the option.

I have a long way to go and I've been maintaining my weight as well, so my plan is to refocus on my weight training and nutrition again. I'm also not getting into the Testosterone issue yet, but once i turn 40 I'll look into it. Also, for the Q&A, What would be the best route regarding updating your wardrobe while losing weight? Buy a few select pieces as you lose weight or just buy stuff for now and then buy more when the weight comes off?

Your friend is spot on about iron, John. Men shouldn't take any supplemental iron (unless specifically directed to do so by their physician) as it raises the risk of cardiovascular problems (and promote certain forms of cancer growth if you already have it). Speaking of which...the Vitamin D formula you are taking may actually improve both cardiovascular health and immunity. Vitamin K2 (as MK7) is very helpful for removing arterial calcium and sending it back into bones (where it's needed). And your Vitamin D levels are perfect. There are multiple studies stating Vitamin D can help ward off respiratory infections (PubMed). Glad to hear you're doing well!

I’m also not a medical professional but here it goes. Genetic mutations in the hemochromatosis gene (HFE) make up the most common genetic cause of elevated ferritin levels and are usually seen in Caucasian patients with northern European ancestors. Ferritin and also iron. You can get tested for ferritin by a simple blood test. Your levels weren’t too high so you might be like me with only a single copy of the mutation. Men’s multivitamins generally don’t have iron and women’s generally does. Women often don’t notice the problem until menopause, for obvious reasons.

Great video! I get an annual hormone panel blood test done, everything still fine at 47. I always urge guys to work on sleep, stress, drinking less alcohol, working out and eating less crap first THEN getting bloodwork done - if Test still low after all that then TRT is a good option IMO. My issue is with guys having self-inflicted low Test from cr*ppy lifestyle yet jumping on TRT unnecessarily.

Been on TRT for little over a year now. Told my PCP and he is uninterested in commenting on it. I think TRT solves a ton of issues that would hurt big pharmaceutical from selling antidepressants to weight loss and many other drugs that keep you dependent. TRT solves issues. Get tested. If T is low, give it a try if not for you then stop. If you do the work and lay off fast food you will be amazed how good you feel.

I'm not a doctor, but I'm just thinking 340 might be perfectly normal for one person aged 55 and very low for another person aged 55. Basically any TRT dosage, can be taken sub-Q rather than IM, and more importantly taken 3 times as week as opposed to weekly or bi-weekly. If I was on TRT and didn't workout everyday I would be far from my 12% BF, and far from being able to do a sub 6 minute mile, 50+ pushup, and 25+ pullups. In general many of the default ranges given by the labs discussed in the video are not appropriate for a man on TRT. And the current standard of practice is to treat to Free testosterone levels not Total Testosterone levels.

I gave up drinking years ago. Ask yourself, why do you really need it? Unless you're an aficionado, it's probably the one thing we started doing just to fit in. My friends asked me why and I said if it comes down to taste, there are a lot more other things I'd prefer to drink. There was a study that said 70% of people don't even like the taste of alcohol, why do you think they make it taste like other things? Might as well drink the other things. If it's just the buzz I'm looking for, then there's another set of issues I should address. My life isn't so bad that I need to escape something and the problems I have are manageable. Therapy has done more for me than alcohol. I make plenty of bad decisions on my own without alcohol, I don't need it to make me less sensible. In the end, it never made my experience better or more fun. If I'm drunk am I really experiencing it? Afterwards you just feel like sh!t. Then there's saving money, losing weight, not feeling horrible, not hanging around drunk idiots....I just don't feel like I need it in my life anymore. And I sure don't miss it.

You’re not way off base :). You asked lol. Numbers are important but the WAY YOU FEEL is probably the most important. Total T is a general reference. Low is worse than high. You’re not, obviously, a body builder which has multiple, multiple, times the range. Your Total T is good. I’ve been doing this since 2008 and there’s the ‘range’ which is kinda situational, but it really goes to how you feel and how much you are prescribed. I agree that it’s strange that there’s a taboo when women get hormone treatment and us guys get it as well, and that it’s taboo that we are tagged as being un-natural, as opposed to when women do it, then it’s OK. So… adjust the amount you get injected and how you feel. At our age, I honestly believe how you feel makes a ton of sense, vs the numbers Labcorp tells you. It would be easy to abuse, if that’s what you wanted, but I hear you when you just want to feel good/normal. Why is it so shaming for us men to want to feel ‘normal’ or good?

Reducing your iron levels is a good thing. Therapeutic phlebotomy (donating blood) has other benefits as well. As red blood cells age they lose flexibility and having your body produce new ones helps blood to better flow through the vessels - especially through smaller capillaries. It also reduces blood viscosity - another net positive. High iron stores have been linked to higher cancer rates as evidenced from comparisons of women pre vs post menstrual and associated incidences of cancer. Better idea than sober October to consider is modifying your lifestyle to just decrease alcohol consumption on a regular basis. I’ve stopped drinking during the week and limit myself to two drink a night weekend. I will typically split a bottle of wine in to a 375ml bottle if I’m opening a bottle by myself. Everything in my body seems to work better as a result and it helps a great deal with weight management. The liver can regenerate itself and giving it periodic breaks from alcohol goes along way toward optimizing its function. Also helps you to recover better from exercise - and possibly keep you more on track with fitness goals.

@@40OverFashion Yup. The insulin syringes are so tiny that you can’t feel the shot. Plus, you aren’t stabbing the same muscle over and over again. Drawing the fluid into the small syringe takes a couple of minutes, but I feel fantastic on the steady dose. Doing the once weekly IM injection also makes the lab work trickier. If you test the day after you inject, your TT and FT will be very high. If you test right before you inject, the values will be lowish. Tough to dial in the best dose. When you inject every other day, everything is relatively steady. Also, there is some good research that sub q is better than IM. Anyway, if you’re method is working, good for you!

I highly urge everyone who is considering it, to combine TRT with better eating and exercise to get max results. Another thought…don’t expect drastic change overnight but allow some time for getting “dialed in” as each person is different and requires different dosages as well as receiving different results. Remember to monitor your blood pressure on TRT. Your hematocrit and heamoglobin may drop back into range if you inject twice per week vs once like you had mentioned. Its also actually less painful because its the amount of oil that causes the most discomfort. It's not a "theory" it keeps things stable it actually DOES and you can see the positive benefits of of injecting more frequently on your blood work. I'd also suggest regular morning cardio daily, (20 mins heart rate 100-120bpm) baby aspirin and even dropping the dose slightly before doing blood draws because that's not just a one time thing it will end up being every few months for life if you don't nip it in the bud right now. John, Hematocrit at 60.7 is a problem. That means your blood is too thick .. too many red blood cels as a side effect of the TRT. You want your Hematocrit under 0.50. The risk you run when your blood is too thick is an increased chance of stroke, heart attack, etc. One way to resolve that is to donate blood, which will reduce the HCT (hematocrit) fairly quickly, but at 0.60 it might take more than once to get back under 0.50. You can donate blood every two months or so (provided they only take one unit). The problem with donating blood to reduce HCT is that your Iron levels also reduce, and they can become too low which is a whole other set of problems. You want full Iron Studies in your Labs every time to keep an eye on Iron levels and Ferritin. Over age 50 I would say the average man's total Testosterone level would be around 350 ng/dL, but most men feel best when their total Testosterone levels are around 500 ng/dL or so. You don't need 800+ ng/dL! You want the lowest possible dose that makes you feel better. The higher the dose of T, the more chance (and severity) of unwanted side effects. To say the upper value in a normal range is 1,100 ng/dL is just comedy. I would say that's higher than any man of any age has shown in the history of the world. You're only getting up there with injections of T.

No offense here and that's coming from a place of honest concern but I would question who gave you the "range"-numbers on the Hematocrit. The range for the Hematocrit (at least in Western Europe) is 40 to 52 and the red flag for blood doping would be 50.
