This is the first video I’ve seen with a real beginner!!! It was so frustrating not even being able to do a single pull up or dip. This is so motivating to keep with it even when it feels like you’re not making progress
@Adelicows
@Adelicows 8 месяцев назад
Yes and the "real beginner" part is literally only 20 seconds out of an almost 30 minute video 🙄 Then she's magically doing full-body (not knee) push-ups. This video is her showing off, not inspiring people. I doubt she was even trying her best in the "beginner" scene, especially since she childishly slapped the camera in frustration after ONE weak attempt. It looked extremely staged.
@youtubesucks5131
@youtubesucks5131 6 месяцев назад
@@Adelicows oh come on. you can clearly see progress. maybe she did not make tons of videos of her beginning stages but the progress looks realistic, when i was learning pull ups (chin ups), it looked the same, and you can also clearly see she wasn't that in shape in the beginning. seeing one hour of someone being a total beginner will not make it easier for you, and you KNOW people are beginners first who can not do a push up or pull up. what do you think happened that made her be able do a full push up (not knee push up)? well, take a wild guess - she kept practicing. there is no way around it.

I am a beginner. Busy since a month. I have an uncurable diastasis since the birth of my youngest child (6 years ago) and almost all physical difficult exercises are supposed to worsen it. Doctor's advise was not to do anything intensive. Did yoga for 5 years, but 40 days ago I just got fed up with slowly gaining more and more weight. I said 'screw my diastasis' and started doing REAL exercises. Started from nothing. Pushups on the wall were already difficult. Now, one month after starting doing it daily, I can do clean incline pushups, and since yesterday my first knee pushups. I have already lost 7 kgs. Have no money for a private trainer or fitness, but I'm improvising, using waterbottles to lift weights for example. Thank you for showing your timeline, things take time. I am already so happy about the small progress I made in 1 month, but it is always so empowering so see how other women are going through their empowerment. Screw my diastasis. I will always have a pillow belly, so be it. Not feeling guilty about it. It should be no excuse to quit exercise
@emacwakeup

I went from 262 lbs in 2018 to 130-135 lbs now, joined a gym January 2022, got my first chin up December 18, 2022, got a set of 8 chin ups in March 2023, got really sick and was out for most of april/May but finally got back to the gym and yesterday did a set of 6, but I'm determined to get it back and keep going. I got really serious about calisthenics in November 2022 and decided nothing will stop me (I have to walk for two hours over mountain trails just to get home from the gym!) and I know it will take ages to get where I want to go but I enjoy it so much that I don't mind. I'm the only woman I know who does this stuff. But I'm in my 40s and I've learned that being the only one is perfectly fine.

when you said you started at 27, it gave me so much hope. I’ve just turned 26 and I’ve been skinny my whole life. Being skinny gave me little drive to work out because there’s always been a stigma that you work out only to lose weight, but i still kept up my cardio anyway just for heart health. If i show a random video of calisthenics to my friends, they would always say “Why bother working out, you’re already skinny anyways” and I feel discouraged everytime I hear that. I just want to feel strong and be able to carry my own body weight. I’ve always been in awe of people who can do calisthenics, it seems like an impossible feat for me, especially when I have quite a pear figure, my arms are the skinniest part of me. And trust me, they are noodle thin. Being only 5ft tall and just barely reaching 100lbs, I feel tiny and weak. I can’t even do a pushup eventhough I’m considered fit in cardio. I thought it was too late for me to finally learn calisthenics, that I was getting too old, but your video just lit up something and gave me so much hope. Being able to do just one proper push up on my toes would mean absolutely everything to me, and I hope I’m able to start making progress. Life has been stagnant, feeling like i have no purpose. You’ve just given me a goal to reach. Hope this message reaches you, thank you for the motivation! Lots of love! p/s if you have suggestions for what would be the best to start with for someone of my age and body type, i would love to hear it!

It's never too late! Choose to start wherever you feel like you'd enjoy. Maybe it's pilates, maybe it's slowly upping the weights in the gym, maybe it's parkour, maybe it's at-home workouts, etc. It really doesn't matter where you start as long as you *do* start. 1- choose an activity you enjoy + 2- Don't forget to have realistic expectations! You don't need to be able to lift heavy, do a move, nor be able to do anything at all at first. Nobody is born skilled, it's just practice and learning over time. Social media makes it seem like it takes a few minutes to improve, but realistically it takes months, even years for some goals. Alsooooo, a fun idea you may try if you are interested is pole dancing!!! It's so fun spinning on the pole, you gain a bunch of confidence surrounded by supportive women AND it's soooooo goooood for upper body strength.

Woohoo this was brilliant!! This is a great motivation video for woman and men! I restarted my journey after a 5 year break, I’m now 45 and 7 weeks in, I concentrated on handstands and pull-ups to promote muscle memory and im now holding 40 second handstands and 7 strict pull-up’s. I couldn’t do 2 pull-ups when i restarted so my progression is so exciting. The hardest thing i think is that i know i used to do muscle ups and i was almost at front lever stage when i stopped so now my mind can do it but my body can’t!! But if you train hard and get 1% better every day, in 100 days you will be 100% better and thats 365% better each year!! Crazy numbers!! Let’s go 😄🙌🏻🙌🏻

Do callisthenics pros do cardio? Running, boxing, whatever. I'm really interested in turning into callisthenics once I finish my weights program (or when I do at least one decent pull-up and push-up). Still, I love running and don't see callisthenics experts showing that online. I know I can do whatever I want, but I don't want to do anything that goes against my progress.

It depends on what your goals are. (Personal trainer here). Cardio’s great for shredding as it burns extra calories. If you’re eating in a deficit but getting enough protein and hitting your macros daily you should retain muscle and shred fat whether you incorporate cardio or calisthenics alone or both, it just depends what your calories consumed vs expended are daily.

I did some calesthenics when i was in the police academy. But most of it was HIIT, running, or weights. I fell in love with weight training. But now im a stay at home mom and music teacher. After shutdowns, i stopped lifting weights when our gym closed down. I really love your approach to the body in general. We have our whole lives to live in these bodies. We should use them daily and make them strong. I am finding this mindset helps me in other areas like music. Im not the best violin player. But I want to play all my life. So instead of comparing myself to other players, I am going to learn a bit more and play a bit more everyday to keep up my skills and unlock new ones. I have found calesthenics a good fit for where i am in life. When i go on walks, I'll stop at the fence to do raised pushups and at the monkey bars to do dead hangs. I am working on keeping my expectations to just keep doing things and less on unlocking skills. But I know that unlocking new skills will support the motivation and excitement of loving in a body and caring for it. ❤

I really love the intro. If you know how a body reacts to training, one can clearly say you were a beginner. The way your back straightened I guess you did some casual fitness/bodybuilding until you nailed the pullup, then you shifted your focus on calisthenics. It's just how the big muscles evolved compared to the small ones and how your shoulder blades came backward and defined. Also, I like the message of changing a view on eating and training habits over the years. As a beginner, you need to get your power-to-weight ratio in check, and by how we humans are built running is our best bet. It even trains all the tiny stabilizers you most certainly need once you start with serious calisthenics. Keep your good work up 🙂

If you see the problem then you can change it. At least you know yourself, many people lack self awareness. If you lack motivation to do a whole workout, do one set of one movement a day. Somethings always better than nothing. Even if it’s the same thing every day. Maybe one day you add more reps, or more sets. Maybe you do two movements a day. Or switch up your movement from day to day. Just do it. What’s more important than your health. That’s what I tell myself daily. If I don’t take care of my body, I don’t deserve to do anything else. Health assurance is better than health insurance.

Do not compare yourself to anyone else but you. Go at your own pace. This is your journey and no one else. I have been off an on with calisthenics. I’m always so in aww of those who do it. My goal is to do the things I thought I couldn’t do and mobility.

The realism of even the people who love to workout have times when they do not want to do it at all and need to take a break… I find it easier to take a break for a week or longer and get back to it on a fresh start… Now after that break sometimes it feels like it has been months since you worked out 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 I get to that point about 2-3 times a year of needing a break.😊

I am new to Calisthenics, basically an absolute Babay :D And really love your videos and your story. It seems relatable and so accessable for someone like me. Thank you so much for sharing your journey! - May I ask, do you have a stretching routine, that you can recommend? I don't quite yet get what you do apart from the pure calisthenics exercises because it looks like you're also very flexible. Thank you!

I'm 17 and I've been overweight my whole life ever since I was very young. I always overate and stuffed myself until I was nauseous... my parents didn't know about this and they thought I just needed a bit extra food to grow and they let me overeat. Nothing on there part. When I was younger I did gymnastics, ballet, dance, cheer, and tumbling but even with all that I still kept putting the weight on. I've tried all the diets all the exercise programs and I even do 4 sports combined. I do figure skating, roller skating, surfing, and rock climbing. (Non competitive) And I am STILL overweight. I struggle a lot with overeating, not being consistent, and procrastination. I also have autism and that just adds on to the struggle. I know what I need to do but I can't seem to just get myself to do it! Sometimes it feels like I don't have full control over what I eat and my subconscious just takes over and almost forces myself to overeat... resisting that is hard. This year is a year of no excuses for me. I've gave myself a challenge to have no sweets this year and so far it's going well but I still struggle with overeating. I have started calisthenics this month because I can do it whenever and it's pretty easy for me to just put some music on and do some one legged squats, push ups, weight lifting, or handstands. I plan to focus on calisthenics and cardio to hopefully finally loose weight this year so I can be more efficient in my sports and so I feel better and look good! Videos like these help me to make progress so thank you for this!

I am curious, do you think your ability to finally do a pull up was because your weight reduced to a level where your strength could overcome it? Strength increase alone? Bit of both?
@Faeriecrafts_wh
@Faeriecrafts_wh 4 месяца назад
It’s definitely got to be both. You have to think about the fat that when she was heavier, she was essentially building muscle by lifting heavy weight. And then she retained and built that muscle up as her fat shredded off from the calories burned while training those movements

Me as a child on the playground: Hardly moving at all, just observing the ants on the ground. Me, during the lockdown: starting with random Pilates and RU-vid workouts, here and there. Me, today, at age 47: Finally found a place to install a pull-up bar and started the Calisthenics journey. Now, in week 4, I am already stronger and more flexible than ever before. Progress is slow, but noticeable to me. I have never before looked forward to exercising. Now, I cannot await my next workout. Videos like yours are very precious as they show me this isn’t just a short phase of euphoria but can be the new normal of enjoying your body and thus enjoying life in a very fundamental way.

Dear Lucy What an inspiring journey. Kudos! It’s been an year I hv been searching and searching for someone who is a calisthenics trainer but is passionate, relatable & reasonably priced and now I hv found you here. Wow! Will email you, your online trainer app looks promising & such a transformation I have been wanting to rebuild my self after a low phase in my life had checked gyms, tried PT’s but it’s been a struggle Then looked up for calesthenics in my gym in London Surrey uk. But not much Hv browsed internet but in London it’s way too much out of my financial budget I could once do body weight pull ups , chip ups not a lot but 10 x2reps now I can’t do even 1 Hun when i was in my 20’s workout , came naturally to me , all cardio, weights though I still couldn’t do calesthenics which I all my life dreamed to do but felt some how may be due to different cultural background mindset that I can’t Until mid 30’s I was quite active but after that my body has undergone decline may be mid life crisis early hit LOL 😂 etc had a surgery too now @ 45 totally untoned … no exercise at all just brisk walk daily So I will be now starting as a beginner no muscle & strength at the moment and will hv to built this up Hun or if you are booked if you can recommend someone else may be? Xx Kind regards Py

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. You're articulate aswell it was a joy to listen to aswell. I've done my third calisthenics session today at home. I'm already feeling stronger. I cannot do pushups, pull-ups yet and cannot wait to accomplish those. Plus I want to be able to do L sit and crow pose. Then eventually handstands etc too. I'm so excited. I feel so much more grounded already

I literally found your channel the other day. I know next to nothing about Calasthenics. I am a yoga teacher and have been practicing for 22 years and I am embarrassed to say I still can’t do a handstand or a forearmstand. I have pretty much given up on achieving this but this gives me hope maybe there is still a chance. I lift dumbbells in the gym but perhaps I’m just not not doing the right exercises for these areas. Perhaps an old dog can learn new tricks. Life is one long learning journey.✨💜🙏🏻

I have a similar story. I was a bit overweight (not obese) for many years. And lost almost 20kg in the past year or so. The last few weeks I got really fascinated be calisthenics and started doing it at home. Today I got so frustrated because I still can't do a single push up or chin up. So I thought why do I even try this. But what the hell? I just started a few weeks ago and from nothing comes nothing. Changes don't come just overnight. Your video helped me to remind myself that I just have to work on my goals and don't give up so easily. Then I eventually can reach them.

I have been weight training for over yr and a half. I too lost weight, 70 lbs 5 yrs and maintaining. I too have had alot of L5-S1 problems, since my 20's. Im now almost 62. It does set me back but I am able to work out majority of the time 3 days week or I work around it. I am recently trying to learn pull ups. Very weak upper body. Working on those scap muscles. Cant even do a push up without assistance bands. But I'm determined! You're story is more similar to mine than any other one I've ever heard. I'm going to keep trying and not give up 💪. Thank you for sharing your story!

I started yoga just a little over a year ago, and I was mainly focused on my mental health more than strength building. I got so into it, though, that about 2-3 months after I started, I signed up for a yoga teacher training course, not because I wanted to be a teacher, but because I wanted to learn the fundamentals and how to create a sequence of my own. It totally changed my life. It kicked my ass in all the best ways, but even still, after 4 months of the YTT and another 6 months of on again/off again training (I had _a lot_ of work travel during that first year that made consistency hard), I didn’t think I was making much progress. Then I moved a couple of weeks ago, and I found it so much easier to carry the furniture and boxes, and my stamina just kept going. At one point, one of the movers asked if I had done sports in college (I’m in my late 30s so even if I did, a lot of that would’ve been lost lol). It really surprised me to see where I was at, because a year ago I would’ve _struggled_ with that move. The best part is, I just unlocked crow pose two days ago! It’s my first hand stand pose that I’ve been able to do. I can only do it for 3-5 seconds, but I can do it consistently and that’s really inspiring and has given me hope that I may be able to try a real hand stand and other poses in the future with practice and patience. Also, I really appreciate these timeline videos, it helps me put my practice into perspective. I totally agree that you can internalize these short clips and think that people learn to do various poses in 5 minutes not 5 months, or they master their practice in 5 seconds, not 5 years. Seeing where you were at at each year gives me hope and perspective to keep going and not worry too much about not doing it “fast enough.”

I really smiled when you said that you wanted to do a chin-up. I'm in that mindset. I lost weight the last year and wanted to stick to exercise with a goal and I always thought of the scene with Sarah Connor in Terminator 2: Judgment Day doing a chin-up in her cell and now that I'm 51 I'm obsessed with that. LOL I noticed some improvements. I can't believe it. I know I'll get there. It's nice to hear someone who started like me and speaks realistically.
