Based on my experiences, I don't think applying early gives you a huge edge over the others. But still it helps to get your decisions quicker and avoid any kind of last minute rush. So yeah it's surely a good practise to apply early.

I’m also planning to apply for fall 23 IUB MS CS. There’s some Ambiguous information available on the site regarding the word limit for personal statement. So just wanted to know whether u followed any specific word limit or anything less than 2 pages should be fine.

Yeah anything less than 2 pages is fine imo. They are not very strict with your word limit for essays.

As in how did u categorise them into safe, moderate or ambitious?? What all criteria did u consider?

Is it ok if we take GRE without selecting universities as at the last you will be asked to select some? And I never had a thought of getting into masters but now planning to do it. I have a GPA of 8.3 in EEE and planning to do MS in CS. I do have work ex of 4 as a data engineer in two MNC. So do you think this is gonna fetch good univ based on your exp with admits. If yes what would be a better choice as I am not able to pick univ based on this evaluators available online

Yeah absolutely okay. But you know just to save some money keep some universities in your head. Since you are changing your field from EEE to CS, it will need work, but it's not impossible. Start working on your SOP. Shortlist universities based on course curriculum and ranking. Generally people do 3 ambitious - 3 moderate - 4 safe. You can check out QS rankings, CS rankings etc. to get an idea of the universities.

hey! congrats on ur admit. I am looking to apply for fall 2023. My gre score wasnt that great. However i think IUB has set gre to be optional. So was your score taken into account and did you submit it?

I wont be able to tell if my score was taken into account, but I did submit my score. Although imo, GRE scores will not really be important cause most schools are waiving them off.

Finished my application for fall 23 , most UC schools like Davis , Barabara and Santa cruz which are considered good for computer science have waived gre off , they are prohibited from reviewing the scores (as per their official website)

@@hritika8841 absolutely nope , please refer UCSB , UCD or UCSC website for ms in cs , gre is not considered for application processing , the application portal won't let you submit gre scores for fall 23

UTD CS has a good reputation. It's a decently ranked uni so just be confident in your interview, you will crack it.

Its not about just changing domains. You need to be willing to work in the domain and that domain should pull your interests. I wont be able to say a lot about MS in Mechanical, but I don't think there will be a dearth of opportunities if you focus on your skills and a good degree.

with all those scores you had, I was like this is another video where you get accepted into all those ivys but dissapointed. No offense but trust me I'm 100% sure your profile was lacking in SOP and LORs.

Might be. I could have worked better on my SOP's and LOR's. But I would also say my profile isn't even that great and scores are just one aspect. I have seen people with better scores and better undergrad colleges get rejected so its all subjective ig.

1. very vague question. completely depends on you and your shortlisting. I would suggest some UC's, some UT's, UFlorida, UGeorgia. 2. Not at all man. People from all fields get into MS CS at US unis. 3. Work on your SOP, it is a very important document. Research well about the uni and see if the course structure matches your liking before applying. You have a decent profile, so pair it up with good applications for some good admits.

I would say Rutgers because it's higher in ranking than IUB.

I don't have a very good idea about undergraduate admissions, but I would say to be on the safe side score above 85% maybe in 12. 90 up would be perfect.

I initially sent my scores to NEU, but then at the end I did not feel like applying. No concrete reason, just didn't apply :P Switching courses can be a tough move, but not if you plan your documents well. I would suggest focus a lot on your SOP, cause that is one document that'll give you a chance to explain your shift in your perspective. Also having some CS experience will help surely.

Hey, sorry man am not really familiar with the program or colleges that offer it. A quick google search shows me that most colleges offer the program, so just shortlist based on your profile.

Can't exactly say, but I think mostly due to the huge number of applicants this year. I think having a good research based resume (research projects, publications) will help getting into these unis.

I applied to UT Dallas in Texas. Georgia Tech would have been too ambitious for my profile so I didn't go through with it.

I know the i20 amounts for IUB (48k) and NCSU (55K). I am not sure of the exact i20 value for my program at the other universities. But they are all in between 48k and 55k. UMass's i20 is around 63k I guess.

Absolutely not. Your profile is already stellar. I suggest you focus on getting your CGPA up to around 9 and getting that research paper published. You will definitely get into some top schools.

No particular reason as such :P I initially did send my GRE score to NEU, but then later decided not to apply. I think the fees, which are a bit steeper, deterred me from applying.

Its all speculations right? I might have gotten better unis, I might not have gotten better unis. No way I could have surely said that I will always get better unis. Plus I always wanted to target USA, just a personal preference. So yeah ultimately went for USA. You can never count USA out in terms of tech jobs and opportunities.
