I am a 60 year old retired ITU nurse from Scotland who loves books (and climbing mountains)....you are fast becoming one of my favourite booktubers. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Many 😊 thanks
Young man in a bookstore - I love it! I can get lost for hours in those kind of used bookstores. I think they truly are the character-building book shopping experience. You were exactly where you were meant to be. I loved your fit check, too. My grandson taught me all about the fit check.☺️ I also make skater jeans for him. I’m creative, too👖 I love connecting over books & fit checks with a man young enough to be my grandson. 👵🏻👦🏽
There’s a book store in a huge warehouse about two hours away from me that sells used books for $1.25 and children’s books are even cheaper. It’s in Ohio if you’re near. I spent a good 3 hours there lol.
Agreed! I've got a bookstore where children's books are all 25 cents to 1 dollar, and every paperback is 2 bucks, and hardbacks only 3 dollars, even if they're originally 30 dollar coffee table art and photography books! ❤
What's good, cuz?! I'm a manager at an academic library and recently, your content has been popping up in my feed. Shoutout to you for putting yourself out here, especially for the book lovers 🎉 . . .Definitely not lame 🙅🏾♀️ You do seen like a bibliophile (book lover) and that's what matters. I really wanted to comment, in regards to the topic of the late, great, Toni Morrison. She is absolutely a more community type of read - meaning getting through her works can be a task. One huge point that serves to make the story of Beloved even more spectacular than the typical mystery is that it is allegedly based off of the true story of a slave woman from Kentucky, named Margaret Garner aka Peggy, who made the decision to take the life of her own child to keep the child from becoming a slave. Hope that helps. I'm reading, If Beale Street Could Talk, now and I can discuss books all day.
Your hilarious commentary mixed in with your genuine enthusiasm for finding books makes you my new favourite booktuber! Hope you enjoy Son of Soloman and all the other books ♡
The fit is FIRE! I loved the pants right away, and then you said you MADE THEM??? Amazing. Loving your videos. Can't wait to see what you think of the new books when you read them.
“We’ve been hoodwinked, bamboozled, led astray, run amok, and flat-out deceived!” glad you picked up some new reads, looking forward to your thoughts!!!
My friends and I read Beloved when it was first published. I was really drawn in by the supernatural theme. But my usual circle of Toni Morrison reading friends, didn't like it as much as her other books because of that. Something I love about Toni Morrison, which I also love about a lot of artists whatever their medium, is daring to do something different. Artists, whether they are fashion designers or musicians, or writers who are willing to experiment with their craft always impress me. I really love your channel! You have such a genuine, warm way of talking about your love of books.
So much fun!! “I think if I buy books that got wear and tear that got character, I’m building character!” I love that, that should be painted on used bookstore walls! Thank you for the bookish tour, you’re a great storyteller 📚🙃
Just found your channel yesterday and binged all your videos hoping you would come out with another tomorrow and look what happened 🎉🎉🎉 SO excited to have you join the booktube community. You’re my favorite booktuber ❤
I clicked on the notif so fast 😭💞 lmaoooo love the self validating “im creative” yes u are sir! ✋😩 ong those pants are dope!! Esp love how u matched the green on the pants with ur green sweater 😎
Man I don’t know how you popped up on my channel BUT I’m so glad. You got me out here reading all kind of books. Love your channel. Keep doing your thing.
Love the pants! It's so cool that you made them yourself! I love a good used bookshop - the vibes are always so chill. It looks like you got some really good deals. I know Toni Morrison can be a really challenging time, but sometimes the most challenging books are the most worth it. She's an amazing writer. Thank you for taking us along on your shopping trip!
Came for the books, left with a new book cousin. ❤ (I am a manager at a tiny indie bookstore and it warms my heart to see someone do a book haul from a used bookshop. You never know what you will find, and trust me the stores need the business.)
Used books are so under-hyped on the booktube and online book community in general! They definitely have character AND you are doing good for the environment! Love that you're visiting a small woman-owned business in your area too!
Your videos put a smile on my face - I’m so happy you exist and decided to share your love of books with us ❤❤❤ PS; uh oh sounds like that bookstore might be what drop shipping feels like irl
so glad you picked up Song of Solomon! I think it’s the only novel of Morrison’s with a male protagonist. It is one of my favorites, very engaging and I found it easier to read than other Morrison.
I love your book enthusiasm! Appreciate that you shopped at a "pre-loved" bookstore. I hope you enjoy "Never Lie." It was one of those books that I absolutely devoured because I could not put it down. Right now, mystery/thrillers are totally my jam too. Look forward to your next vlog!
Hey cuz. 👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽 every time you drop i get giddy. 😅 also. It’s very attractive as a black man to show his interest in reading and taking us on the journey. Also your vibe gives main character in the book neighbor favor. Also you give me motivation to do more reading content in my channel
Funny that you say that, the last video that he did I recommended him read Neighbor Favor because I thought based on his vibe it would be a book he would love!
I’m always excited to a new video from you! Thanks for taking us with you to the bookstore! Have you tried much sci-fi yet? If not, give Ender’s Game a try. If you like it, there are loads of others in the series, but E’s G. also stands alone just fine.
I’ve been trying to build a daily reading habit again and I just found your channel and it has been a good source of motivation and encourangment ❤ Thanks!
I have so much fun watching your videos, Cousin Five! Love your energy and your love for books of course. Onward to more "sweet as hell" small businesses! 👏
I Love Used Bookstores!!! It's always my first go to. It helps because I can be extremely picky with how my books look and going to one of these helps me to let that OCD go for a little bit. Definitely therapeutic. Your channel is one of my new favorites!!! So glad I ran across it!!!!
I’m so proud of you for reading Morrison even though it is difficult. If you don’t mind nonfiction, you should read “Playing in the Dark.” It’s easier to read and does a good job of putting some things into perspective about American literature and race. It was paradigm shifting for me.
I'm glad I came across your channel. I've watched a few episodes now and each one actually has my undivided attention. You're also the first make book vlogger I follow (and only book vlogger I don't ghost follow). Only reason I don't follow any of the book vloggers who I occasionally watch is because they feel very forced. Their personalities come off with a strong vibe of "sangre pesada" as well. Sadly many of them also only concentrate on 1-3 genres. So seeing a person who presents himself in a calming manner, down to earth and is willing to give new things a chance is nice. Your wide range of genre choosing is what caught my attention, but your character is what made me become a subscriber. Keep being you, because the "you" you are now is perfect.
See nowww I wasn’t gonna buy anymore books for a few months. But you got me looking for independent bookstores near me😂. And the Beloved book sounds like a good read. Thanks for the book recs.👏🏾👏🏾❤️
Wow I'm a fan of your channel already! You read and choose some amazing books I would read or be interested in! Love this video! I'm glad you enjoyed your book store visit! I miss my used book store but there are a few thrift stores in my area!
Cousin Five, thank you for this book review. I’ve been thinking of reading Never Lie and now I definitely will. As always, I love your channel and you’re one of my favorite Booktubers. 🤎👑📚
Great new video, thank you for taking us with you to the used book store. “The best of me“ is my favourite Nicholas Sparks‘ book. I can’t wait to hear what you thought about it. 📚💚
Man, I appreciate your channel. I didn't read a book for over 10 years due to deteriorating eyesight, but I started reading again with the Mistborn trilogy recently. Turns out I love reading. I'm on a lot of fantasy right now, but I am going to start reading along with you. Shit, I might join booktube myself to chronicle the journey of a former non-reader. Thanks for the inspiration.
Your preview of Never Lie caught my attention and I was happy to find a read for free copy on Kindle Unlimited. In one of your earlier videos, you asked about ereaders. I've had a couple Kindle Paperwhites over the years and they are nice to read on. Ebooks are great, but nothing replaces shopping for physical books in an actual bookstore, though. Nice channel. I'm glad RU-vid recommended it 😊
Hello, I know this will sound like an odd question but do you happen to have issues with the nose or even the mouth? I am exercising my intuitive abilities, that's why I am asking. Sometimes what I get is spot on but practice makes perfect. Would love to hear your feedback :D
I LOVE your channel. You remind me if Chance the Rapper. You both exude a sense of decency and kindness. I always look forward to your videos both for the reviews and recs but also your energy.
Thrillers are my favorite genre at the moment. Frieda McFadden’s books are so good. I think you’ll enjoy Never Lie. The Marriage Lie by Kimberly Belle is a thriller that you won’t be able to put down. Toni Morrison’s books have to be read slowly and critically. I read a lot of her books in college.
As a fellow black man that reads I feel like I found my people. Recently just got back into reading. Back in high school and college it took up a good amount of my time, and somewhere in adulthood it got lost. I took some of your recommendations from this video and the ATL bookstore because I want some other genres besides sci-fi. Just glad to have someone black to follow here on youtube and also loves the books they read. I'm glad to have found your channel. Thanks for doing what you do bruh. Stay up. Edit: Just wanted to add I read Toni Morrison's Beloved in high school for an AP English class and it was some heavy subject matter that showed some not so kind sides of one of my classmates lol in a discussion I'll never forget. All I'm saying is take emotional breaks with Toni Morrison because man, it's A LOT.
Thrillers are the best !! I’m currently on the Harry Potter kick. Omg! Never thought I would love Harry so much! Thanks for sharing your book journey with us!
We love Big Freida over here! If you like that one read the Housemaid series (book 3 drops this year) or Ward D And def watch the movie after you read Beloved! You’ll see how interesting the book compares to the movie (it used to scare me when I was little 😅)
Thank you, thank you!! I shared one of your videos with my 4th grade class and they loved you. You made some great picks and I hope you enjoy. Finding 'accidental' places are never a mistake!!!!
I just went to Like 5 bookstores while visiting NYC. Can’t wait to edit that video lol. Getting lost in the book store is always a vibe. Those pants are fire btw 🔥
I know it’s been said many times before but you’re like a breath of fresh air to the book community. As someone who’s trying to step out of my comfort zone with my genres, I’m glad I’m finding new book content creators this year as well! Are you going to start doing monthly wrap ups? I would love to see those if so! 💕
