A.I. or not, imagine the emotions Jor-El felt when Clark said "family". Grief that he wasn't a part of his son's life, but maybe relief that he's accepted on Earth also. What I think happened was Jor-El wanted to peacefully emigrate Kryptonians to a new planet, but Zod wanted to conquer. They fought, and that's how Jor got the eyepatch. Brainiac was a planetwide operating system that gained sentience and sided with Zod.
@@Mr.Needle-Hamster True purpose vs why he was sent to earth are different. Superman knowing he's an alien from Krypton differs in media and the comics. Sometimes Jor-el sent his son to earth to help it but most he sent him there because it was the best option. The whole Superman thing is all on Clark. This is the first where Clark thinks he's an invader. The first wave of the Kryptonian empire war machine.
@@kryptonianotaku4975 man of steel also introduce the kryptonian leanguage but it did nothing with it, this show take it and has a narrative purpose than just beeing mention. Its not about who did it first is about who did it better,
I like that Clark initially misunderstood Jor-El because of course he doesn't understand Kryptonian or the context of what he was trying to convey to Clark.
Clark mistook some things as act of aggression like an attempt to brainwash. Took the ship in self defense mode as again another attack. Then got a onesided picture of the attack from an alien force wearing his crest. He never took the chance to just listen to Jor-el and got angry due to his jump to conclusions.
So I just saw part of an interview with Josephine Campbell (the co-producer of this show) where she explains how she created Kryptonese by mixing Esperanto with bits and pieces of other languages. It made me realize how rarely we've heard Kryptonian characters speaking their native tongue in previous adaptations (though, as Campbell acknowledged, we have seen the written language many times in the comics). I do hope that in season 2 we see Clark start to learn it (possibly from Brainiac).
When I first heard Kryptonese in this series, it sounded like a mix of Latin, Greek and some other European languages thrown in…so yeah, having based it on Esperanto actually makes sense to me now. When you’re paying attention, Kal-El‘s/Supes‘ father says something like “rapide“ when the subtitles display the word “quickly“.
@@NorthSea_1981 According to Campbell, that was sort of the idea--the viewer would hear a few words they recognized, and then just as they thought they were beginning to understand, they'd hear a word that was strange to them, which is exactly what Clark is experiencing as he struggles to learn more about his past. Plus, it results in Jor-El sounding like he's speaking a real language and not just a bunch of gibberish.
Ah, I've studied a bit of Esperanto before. I was too stoked for the series to notice (didn't help I don’t have HBO Max so when I did have access to it, it was only for a limited time.) I also hope they do more with Kryptonese. My biggest question I made was with the last time we saw him and he managed to say, "my son" even though he had used those words before in his language. Is his program learning English?
Nice to have the Jor-El translations for the season finale. It's such a shame that Superman didn't understand what his father was trying to tell him. Do you have the translations for the second episode?
@@SupesSinsMemoirs such a shame. I honestly want to know what Jor-El was trying to tell him and I hoped that it would have also been translated via captions.
Is not Jor-El, is Odin the Lord of Asgard from "Thor" look like. Jor-El wouldn't one-eyed, like Odin. Some dumbass-multiplier creates on similar character's appearance.
I'm starting to think that Krypton was destroyed by a civil war between the Kryptonian Warrior and the fellow Kryptonian to oppose the warrior. And Kal-El was sent to another world to prevent him from dying at the hands of the Kryptonian Civil War caused by the rouge warrior.
@@zaberfang And it annoys me to no end to other people want to see other DC characters in this animation style. Man of Steel 2 was sacrificed to create the DCEU, without completing Superman’s character arc.
@@leoorduna2199 What character arc? You mean the bland, edgeboi Snydervese version? That one forgot what makes Clark Superman. It's his Earth parents' kindness and teachings that made him the classic hero he is, which isn't even shown in Snyder's version.
@@zaberfang That's not my argument, my argument is that that everyone wants to see a reunion of the DC Animated Universe in this animation and questioning which Justice League members should show up in this TV show and they're not even interested in Superman's character arc in this TV show.
Thanks for the translation. Its sad Superman couldn't understand him. 😢 I hope he's not gone for good and they'll have a chance to talk again and Superman can learn Kryptonian
Kal's is similar to it aswell, they aren't KC but it is a definite influence. Fitting given Gunn's claims that all future films, animations, games will be connected with the live action actors reprising their roles in animations and games etc;
It's interesting how Kryptonian is seemingly a mixture between Romance and Germanic languages. Actually helped me understand some of it, since I speak German natively while also having learned Latin and Spanish in school (mostly unsucessfully though)
Jor-El in this series is voiced by Jason Marnocha, who I actually used to follow on RU-vid under his username "Lord Jazor." Back in the late 2000's, he did some AMAZING voice impressions, most notably his impression of Mark Hamill's Joker. He's long since abandoned his RU-vid channel and his original videos no longer exist on there (Though some of his fan dub collabs on other channels still exist). I'm assuming he deleted his videos to pursue his acting career. Nevertheless, I'm glad to hear "Jazor's" voice again and to know he's voice-acting in bigger and better things. :)
This is probably like the most frustrating thing I have with this show, the fact that Clark’s got this completely wrong idea about who Jor El is or where he’s from, or why he was sent to earth. In almost every other medium it’s explained to him so easily.
@@KRYMauL Glad I'm not the only one who sees the parallels, only it's done better here. Hopefully the misunderstanding will be cleared up instead of lasting for season and making clark make stupid decisions constantly.
@@Birthday888 He decided to destroy the spaceship which led to his mum suffering a miscarriage which led to him deciding that his loved ones were better off without him which led to his dad having heart problems which led to him deciding that his loved ones were better off without him even though it was that exact reasoning that cause his dad to have heart rpoblems in the first palce.
i know people are like "why did jor-el didn't add a translator and shit" but if this show was going to add something new was the fact that superman never knew his true purpose on earth and him figure it out by himself give him more character agency. Sure i know his hole father and son dinamic is the hole reason why sups become good but im open to a diferent take if at least don't ignore the basics to the storytelling, is not like in homecoming where they completly ignore uncle ben and pretend like "well everybody knows it so why bother so therefor is NEW" no! new is when you take and already known idea and you give him a new turn, homecoming literally ignore that and did nothing for two movies until no way home, this at least give us the same idea but with a legit twist to make it flesh
Krypton people were never conquerers. I assume in this version, a civil war broke out when general zod and braniac declared war and decided that earth was ripe for conquest. After all, a yellow sun is all that is required to give s Kryptonian superpowers.
I'm really curious as how Clark and Sam will react when learning that Krypton was destroyed. I mean, both believe Clark's people are trying to invade Earth, with Sam clearly preparing for another invasion. I just want to know how both will react upon learning there was never an invasion coming, and the Kryptonian race as a whole are gone, save for Clark and Zod, if that armored figure is Zod.
It pretty much follows the main storyline arc that Krypton was a peaceful world, but Zod decided he wanted to usurp Jor-El's powers and execute him which what made Brainiac the way he is and Krypton ended up dying and exploding with only Kal-El/Clark being the lone survivor of Krypton until he found out that two versions of his cousin survived - Powergirl and Supergirl.
In many tellings, Kryptonians were not especially expansionist conquerors, but they warred amongst themselves often until one final conflict called The Last War. Even then, they did not embrace full pacifism but directed their military towards defense from outside threats.
This Clark will never understand the truth of his origin; nor will he discover his true purpose on Earth. We all know Brainiac killed his planet and his people. Those tree orbs always mean death and destruction wherever they go. Too bad Clark won’t understand until it’s too late.
Doesn't seem like it. The ending shows something that looks like Brainiac and a kryptonian in General Grievous armor working together. And that kryptonian seems to be General Zod.
I honestly hope that this isn't the end of jor-el and that a bit of him still survived and maybe transferred his conscious AI to be part of the ship that got cut off from the gate I just hope that this isn't the last we see if I mean we get to see more of him and season 2 teaching Clark about Krypton and what really happened.😢
I’m sad that Clark still doesn’t know his full origins and believes his people, including his father, were invaders. And with his ship destroyed here, it’s now even harder for him to learn the truth There’s only two scenarios now where he can hopefully find out next season: 1. Fortress of Solitude-Flamebird/Daily Planet learn about a krypotonian ship in the arctic and send the main trio for the story. That ship would have a translator and Clark will finally get answers 2. Supergirl-Kara Zor El arrives and she can explain Kal-El’s story.
I like how the krptonite in this show is straight up poison in other media it only weakens and destroys superman's solar reserves making him weak but here it's straight up poison and will kill him and it's horrifying to look at I mean look at those crystals spiking out of him it's like the stone man disease .
Love the legit linguistic ties: "Compras"; (understand) - from the Spanish "comprender"; (understand) "Sie doloren"; (hurt you) - from the German "sie" (you) and the Spanish "dolor" (physical pain) "Rapide" (quickly) - from various Latin-based words for "quick" "Portis" (brought) - from the latin root word "port" (carry)
Where did you get these translations? I wish you could've translated what Jor-el was saying and adapted that to the first & second part when Kal-el/Clark was a child his adoptive parents showed him how he came to them and when his father turn him into Superman to this video.
I think zod might actually be a good guy in this show. someone mentioned that Superman's kryptonian mother is braniac. Jor El looks more like he could be zod. I think maybe zod in this show zod looks more like Jor El and that the kryptonians are evil and are probably conquer, and zod is a good guy. But zod tried to save kal El, maybe. This is just my theory
Eh, Jor-El in the Smallville series brought Clark not listening to him on himself by being a total bastard to him. He was so cruel to Clark in that series. He burned the symbol into Clark's chest quite painfully to control him, literally mind-controlled Clark on one occasion, threatened him, abducted people, and even condemned Clark for trying to kill that Lex clone despite wanting Clark to kill the real one, making him a hypocrite, too. It's little wonder that Clark thought Kor-El had made Martha sick in the episode where Brainiac first reveals himself. I'd have believed it, too.
Just when you think they can't make a more pathetic version of the Superman story, they manage to dredge something out of the cesspool of their little minds.
