Complete build review of the turbo setup on my 1991 325iX E30. Link to spreadsheet that I mention in the video (covers all of the parts that are used in this setup). drive.google.c...
A slice between cylinders 3-4 helps with sealing on the manifold. Would you upgrade to a divided manifold? T3 or T4? Taking notes for my m20 turbo as well. Clean build!
Thank you. I’ve actually got the manifold off the engine at the moment resealing it. I’ll slice the flange between 3-4. I was thinking about doing that but you convinced me. Next I’ll probably fab my own manifold and use a divided T3 or vband flange.
nice build, ive got a chance to pick up a 325ix here too but a bit worried about reliability of the awd platform... any issues with the transmission/transfercase so far?
Not really but I also don’t launch it or clutch dump it. Make sure to use the X5 guibo on the front diff to push the front driveshaft into the transfer case for more spline engagement.
How does the AWD coupling handle the jump in power? ive read quite a bit saying they arnt made to handle anything over stock so curious how yours is holding up
It’s not the coupling you have to worry about as much as the front differential. I have a couple spare because I was anticipating breaking them. So far nothing has broken and I’m pretty rough on it. Hard launches etc. Besides an upgraded clutch the only other mod I’ve made to the drivetrain is shimming the front driveshaft into the transfer case more using an X5 guibo.
Pretty SWEET build. I have an '88 325iX that would be even more fun with some added power. Keep the videos coming... and yes, some take it for a spin videos would be cool! Would be interested in more info on that GM wasted spark conversion too.
Awesome work!. Can you explain how you wired the wideband? Do you keep the factory o2 sensor? Is the wideband wired to the factory wire harness? Thanks in advanced
15:50 "this being a journal beraing turbo it only really needs a slight drip of oil going into this" -I thought ball bearing turbos needed less flow and journal bearing turbos needed high flow?????????????
i've owned my 1933 Ford 325iX with a spankin' brand knew 3 speed emmanuel!!!!! The iX uses epik lulz and bowlz to create a wild minimal flavor that Spartan 117 can't stand! He would rather get a 10000 whp Chevy Kilonova with 4 mini jet engines on the back and deja vu has
Very nice video. I have an M42 powered 318i from 1985 (previous owner had the engine swap done) and while not everything from the video applies to my engine, I find the intercooler placement information very useful as I'd like to keep AC if I turbo my car.
