Some come and go, and some will hopefully stay forever. How many axes is too many? I think I can add a few more still!

Can't get too long! Love seeing axes. Yum! I can second the fact your best work goes out to other people. I can't pick one axe to comment on!! So please feature different axes in each of your future hike videos! I think I was one who asked for a comprehensive axe collection tour, finally got it!!

haha you were the prime instigator of this video for sure. I love my axes as well. a lot of fun in building and collection. Trouble is that most almost never get used!

👍 nice Stash! Gobbling up quality Vintage Axes/Hatchets can be quite addictive- they are a limited resource though-and in time few decades-the supply will dry up!🇺🇸

I own two axes and a hatchet, and I was wondering if that’s too many for me. After watching this, I still wonder the same thing.

I enjoy the process of restoration and very few people can do it properly. So I do it quite often as a favor for people, so that they can have an old family heirloom. Turns out you can find some real gems it the basements and garages and bringing them back to life feels good.

Put a couple step wedges in that Wetterlings and you won't have to worry about the head loosening up again this winter.

Great to see the little Elwell 1 1/4lb hatchet. Got one just the same. It's a great axe and punches well above its weight. 👍

Your German axe was made in West Germany before the fall of the Berlin wall. That's a keeper! Check out "edge geometry." The wedge shape of the edge creates a shoulder that impedes progress into the wood. Work the should off the axe head and it will penetrate the wood much easier.
@patmancrowley8509
@patmancrowley8509 7 лет назад
Yeah, the axe with the leather around the handle under the head, that's got the correct geometry on the grind.

I had a little 1 pound Elwell that I sold a while back and regret it now. Not the same as yours but very similar. They are a pretty common barn find here in Newfoundland for some reason. Let me know if you decide to sell the HB. I'd be interested in that for myself. I'm a sucker for HB as you know. Thanks for sharing your collection bud.

There is no such thing as “too many“ imo.. i now have 3 typewriters and they need more space than i have for such things, still need more.. same with anything else.. keep up the vids, can't always comment but keep watching!

Hey KB! Thanks for stopping by. I will certainly use it. I take super good care of all my tools, but I never keep anything solely as a collectable. Too pretty NOT TO USE!

Where are you buying your handles at? I have a double bit true temper I picked up and tried to order a handle but having a hard time finding the right eye size. Without buying a blank piece of hickory

Hey Todd, I have a local Newfoundland source. I hand select everything that comes into the shop to ensure quality

When you soaked that wetterlings in linseed oil did you coat the head in Vaseline or anything? Or did you raw dog the steel???? Just out of curiosity:) Nice collection brother!

thanks Shane! Just put the axe in as it was. No coating :-)

Yep we share many comon interests Kyle, didn't know just how many. from fire arms, axes, wood working &. motorcycles. just to name a few. One would think you and your ( DNA sample axe ) would be more near & dear to you than ever ??? But everyone differs. great video my friend also if your into heavy construction type equipment and a all around good time you might take a look at a fellow ( RU-vidER ) jpaydirt he does new videos every Friday morning. he is a good guy and a bit of a character who mostly does work for local farmers. Again choice. time spent watching your channel. Be safe and do take care..
@kyle_noseworthy
@kyle_noseworthy 6 лет назад
haha That's pretty neat! I am certainly into heavy construction! In fact, I used to work in that field. Operating and labor work. My high school intentions were to become a heavy duty mechanic! Glad you liked the video. I'll check out that channel!

how do you go about CLEANING your edge?
@kyle_noseworthy
@kyle_noseworthy 7 лет назад
Rooster method all the way my friend! Every time I come home, I tidy up my edge with a bit of 1500 or 2000 grit paper, and then strop it back to a mirror finish. Takes less than 2 minutes :-)

Question : How many Axes does one man need ? Answer : Just one more !
@jetskidude78
@jetskidude78 7 лет назад
Great collection! Do you ever remake the old handles into something still a lot of good hickory there.
@kyle_noseworthy
@kyle_noseworthy 7 лет назад
I certainly do! Many of the handles I remove from large axes, there is enough useable wood there for a hatchet handle. That said, I do have a box full of original hickory handles that I haven't had an opportunity to use yet. Any ideas?
@jetskidude78
@jetskidude78 7 лет назад
Tommorrow I'm fixing a collins double bit cruiser I plan on carving knotwork design into the handle that could be a great idea see some carved pattern handles. I also wonder about copper handle guards "wire wrapped".
