I am proud of this attempt. Unfortunately I ran out of steam at Mother Brain, but it was a good run to that point. I was also happy that I could even withstand multiple MB2 attempts without my hand cramping up. I've improved my controller grip so I can hold out much longer, but it's still a rough fight to attempt even once, let alone many times. I got 160-170 shots into the fight on multiple occasions, but eventually I had to call it. I'm sure I could finish a run in the future, but for now it's time to return to any%.
I had some struggles getting through MB1 as well. There were the typical turret snipes (one lost super missile is all it takes), but also some times I took too much damage from the rinkas. Near the end I got better at jumping to avoid them and entered a couple MB2 fights with 385 energy; the best I could do with the speed zeb skips. Speaking of, if my running tallies were correct, then this run features 17 speed zeb skips on just 21 attempts! That's a fantastic success rate. This included hitting the first six skips, as well as a streak of 8 consecutive speed zeb skips later in the run.
The rest of the run was good too. 15:07 gravity time is solid, and didn't lose much time on the bubble mountain wall jumps or the WRITG bomb jumps. There was a little slop in the run after LN, and also the metroids were unkind with PB drops so I had to ship refill three times, but otherwise this is a good baseline to run against.
The star of the run though was, without question, the Ridley fight. A fight that contained some mistakes early on, and then another one here in the thumbnail. At this point, Ridley had over 2/3 health remaining and I was still 55 beam shots or so away from the red phase, where I'd need another 33 beam shots and to land the missiles and supers. It took over four minutes of fighting with 05 energy remaining but I managed to save this Ridley fight, and I was pretty pumped about it!
