I choped all my hair in September 2017 and now in January 2018 it’s about two to three inches longer...I’m 11 years old and at school everyone thought I was so brave and now the people who have damaged hair come up to me and say “because of you I might go natural” and that just makes me so happy
Girl, I remember when I did my big chop, I was hyped asf. (I was crazy though because I did it before senior prom and my mom was pissed lmao.) My hair had heat damage just like yours and every time I brushed it, I could literally hear my hair breaking. I couldn't take it anymore, so I cut it all off then I shaved like 98% of the damage off. I still have a little more damage but I'm gonna wait until it grows out a little more. Anyways, congrats on your hair journey, it's a struggle but it's worth it. Tip: Don't use Cantu as a "beginner" natural hair product. Their stuff has rubbing alcohol in it now. :(
DatCougarAssassin lol omg right before prom! My mom would've been mad too but it's still good that you got rid of the damage! And lol I won't use can't I honestly don't like their product on my hair. And thank you for the support❤️❤️
Donita Forever I only did it before prom because my mom wanted to straighten it for prom and I didn't want anymore damage. Funny, because the night before I cut my hair, I called her and gave her one more chance to get a professional to cut off all my damage. She said no, and I said bet. And the rest is history. She's the kind of mom that's obsessed with length not health. But not problem, we curly and coily girls need to stick together. ❤❤❤
I just did my big chop yesterday morning!!! It was the best decision I made in a long time and very satisfying 🤗🤗🤗 I was 11 months post relaxer so I have a decent size 4a fro. My curls instantly just popped after I cut my ends! If my fro was shorter I still would of wore it out. I'm loving my curly afro and I refuse to hide it I'm just so in love with my natural curls 🙌🙌 Once you build your confidence and wear it out more you will feel way better about it. Its only the beginning and it looks very nice too!
Thank you! and yeah my confidence level a little low right now with it but its actually starting to grow on me so I might wear it out soon, and I'm so happy for you! Natural is the best healthy way to go!
Omg you are so brave! I wanna big chop so bad but scared I'll regret it so I cut my hair overtime. But girl your video just gave me the strength to go for it ❤️😘. I had to sub w/ the quickness. And it looks cute on you.
I’ve been wanting to cut my hair for years now so I can see my actual curl pattern, but my family keeps telling me I’ll look like a boy and be ugly lol.. so I’ve decided to cut my hair idk when but I want to cut it
I ain't big chopping my hair till I have money to buy the stuff that'll make my hair popping. Hope that made some of you guys who are young think about this and the cost literally.😊
Blessing x you really don't need to spend much to make your hair look great. Your hair doesn't care about the price of a product. Sometimes the cheapest things work best.
Coconut oil cheap, I use that and co was shea moisture (9.99)and the deep conditioning(11.99), some cute wigs are cheap I co wash every 2 weeks and deep condition 2-3 times a month and it’s growing back fast and drink lots of water. My eyebrows even started growing
Awww yass I had to watch more big chop videos and look at people Instagram pictures to remember how much I loved my short hair😩😍 I’m glad I can motivate you❤️
I recently big chopped to start basically to a new beginning to have a change (b/c my little brother died July 31 he lived for about 8hrs and I felt I need to start over with something) I still have to chop some ends like a few straight strands that need to be off I love it tho 💘💘😊😊
When I did my big chop back in 2012 I felt the exact same way. I had the same reaction. Felt so insecure. I had to love myself again. It was a process. I felt so uncomfortable in public. I wore wigs until my hair grew out. Then I got addicted to sewins after my wigs phase was over. My hair became so unmanageable because I was lazy when it came to my real hair but spent hours curling & styling my weave. two years into it I end up getting a relaxer. I gave up. Now fast forward to 2017 my hair is really thin, has heat damage, bleached, shedding, uneven, & just unhealthy. I did my big chop for nothing pretty much. Don't Be like me. I really got lost in the makeup & weave & forgot to love myself. In 2012 I was 17 years old following trends. Now I'm wishing I would've took care of my hair. When I cut my hair back in 2012 I said I would never cut it again because I was so uncomfortable but honestly I thought I looked beautiful. Now I don't care what people think. I'm really considering doing my big chop again & this time my journey will be mine not anybody else's. My spiritual journey has led me back to going natural. Crazy how when we love god we fall in love with ourselves. Prayers to you on your journey. Btw you look beautiful.
lmao its crazy because we had the same reaction doing the big chop, your gonna love it and your hair is gonna flourish. !!! cant wait to see your journey
I like it. It looks really cute. I didn't have the guts to big chop. I just cut it over the course of a year until I got my curls back. I still have a little ways to go but I'm happy with my hair now.
Hey girlie! I kind of remember being in your situation back in 2015. I was kind of nervous because I was kind of always used to having long hair. But I was sick of relaxers. So I finally did it (got my mom to chop off all my relaxed hair which was about mid-back length that time but I was suffering from some breakage and dryness). Guess what? I am like 2.5 years natural and my hair has literally DOUBLED in fullness. Is way stronger AND is like bra-strap length when I pull my curls/coils down (mind you, I trim my hair like crazy because I want it to be even like all over lol and I hate seeing scraggly ends haha). So don't worry. You are not alone with your feelings, but you will start to feel free and like more familiar with yourself and your hair. Best of luck to you dear and sorry this was so long! haha :P
adanne1990 awww thank you so much❤️❤️ I love when I can hear stories that relate to mine! And that's is great how your hair turned out! I hope mine is near bra strap within two years because it was having a hard time growing.
Yeah of course dear :) and for sure! I think it is important to like support each other and share out own personal experiences too. Be open to learning about your hair and what it needs. If/when you listen, you will start to see your hair start thriving, trust me girly! :)
I just did my big chop this weekend. I woke up and decided my hair had to go, so I grabbed the scissors and headed to the bathroom. I didn't give myself any time to think about it! Now that my hair is gone, I'm feeling free and ready to see what my unrelaxed hair is going to look like!
Donita Forever your welcome, I got some aloe vera powder from amazon and i mixed it with water to make it runny then I mixed it with my store bought deep conditioner and omg adding the aloe vera powder made my hair so much more soft and moisturized, just an idea in case you want or need extra moisture😊
I big chopped a month ago...goin on 2 months and I had no curl whats so ever.! It was all so straight and then my roots had a some curl to it. I’m glad you still had somewhat of a curl pattern. I cut mine basically down to the roots .. don’t worry it’ll get better....I hope. Patience I guess, I’m just gonna be wearing box braids hahaha love that girls feel confident to big chop. I was feeling sad after I did it like questioning if it was a good idea...(not like I can go back thou)
Right thats exactly how I was feeling and some parts of my hair are also still straight but I am happy I did the big chop! And dont be sad your hair will grow back healthier and better!
I just chopped my hair yesterday and man...I completely fucked myself up! I let my boyfriend help and he took to much off in the back and sides, there was no salvaging what little hair I wanted. I had to bust out his clippers...T-T
...."I know what I'm doing..." My ass! I learned my lesson and he will not be touching my head again. The next time if I ever decide to do this, I'm going to a REAL barber. I'm looking up how to put on a wig on my baldness...I hope it's possible.
I did a chop back in November last year and I straightened out in (April) of this year too often and I decided this September I would go all the way and shave my hair and it's growing back so fast
You made me cry. I'm letting my boyfriend cut my hair in the morning soon as I get off work. I'm so scared but you encouraged me. I also have a wig and I'm ready but scared.
That actually looked like it could have been restored? but it looks great and it always grows back so...almost everyone I know "natural" has had heat damage and has had to make a decision about cutting it and starting over.
Trust me it's all worth it!!! I cut my permed hair off a year ago(2016) of august and it was short like yours my hair grew so much from not putting heat or chemicals in it. Your hair looks cute like that and it fits your face.hope your new natural hair journey goes great😊🎃❤💝😄(ps) you are brave gurl!!!!!
The first cut is always hard , but then you stuck and can't go back. LOL I love this look on you and your hair will be better once it grows out. I did a big chop too and I don't regret it. Your cut isn't as short as mine but loveeee it
its gorgeous im thinking about cutting my hair the firs time my hair was permed was when i was 4 and they wasnt suppose to do that so it messed up my curls
Donita Forever I cut it yesterday I freaked out and started crying but I talked to my friend and she said she cried when she did it too so I felt better 😂❤️❤️❤️
You are beautiful at least you have natural curls, soooo many of us out here wish we had.. I would absolutely loooovvvve to have wash n go hair OMG! I know that was a major transition for you, but girrrl embrace your beautiful it ain't like you have so called nappy n problems with dry or brittle hair.. you did a nice job too🤗💞💪🏾💞
i honestly just cut my hair cause i felt like it. i like shorter hair better. my hair was perfectly healthy and hella long, and now it’s perfectly healthy and hella short. This style is BOMB on you
It's looks that way because it's uneven. I let my boyfriend shape my big chop. I was looking crazy b4 he fixed it up. Your beautiful by the way. Just don't overdue the wigs. Let your hair breathe or you'll be back to the chopping board.
