Even if Sigma made a FE 150-300 f2.8 sport version of it i would buy it as that will solve my problem in shooting field sports at night.

Still have mine. The only EF lens I still own. Imho it works better adapted to Sony mirrorless, than it ever did on my Canon DSLR. Could use a diet though.

I currently own the 120-300 sigma, actually my 2nd one because my first version was always breaking down and being sent in, Sigma finally decided to get me the current version (f/ mount as I shoot Nikon). I started to have two problems, one, the body was becoming lose around the focus ring, which has been fixed, but the bigger problem is the tripod/monopod collar--It grinds to the point that you can not smoothly transition, with speed, portrait to landscape. For Nikon users, Nikon has recently added a 120-300 f/2.8 f-mount, so at least for Nikon, we have two options (about $8,000 usd difference between the two. However, I have to say that my fav sigma lens, once again, f/mount is the 50-100mm f/1.8 for crop sensor cameras--the most expensive crop sensor lens I own, well, the only one I own. Loved your monologue.

I had a feeling this was what this was about. I remember that video you made about it before. Agreed that it would be interesting to see what they could do with it under the latest engineering for mirrorless cameras.

No regrets but even as an owner of an older Canon EF 300 2.8L (which I still love and have no intentions of selling), I would love to see that native Sigma 120-300 2.8 but with an inbuilt 1.4 converter! I would buy that lens without hesitation especially if they made it in Z mount for my preordered Z9!😉🙏🏾

Before that, they need 70-200 F2.8 DG DN Sport. The Sony 70-200 F2.8 GM ii is perfect but way too expensive, the Tamron 70-180 is good, but the build quality is just questionable, we need something in between.

Well well Dave your thoughts are the same as mine almost I think why I owned the 120-300mm F2.8 OS F mount bought on December 10th 2011 sold trade in June this year in NYC and bought the 105mm F1.4 Art Bokehmaster so can use the UV and CPLR filters when needed.Why well COVID blocked most of the airshows etcétera birding staying more in the 🏠 but a big but I missed and mis it everyday so who knows a mirrorless version also for Z mount would be great to for me and other Nikon's around the Globe even your dog thinks the same !

That was a very well written and executed monologue, do/did you do some acting, or just something you're good at? Also, perfect lens? 16-300 t/95, Perfect but more realistic lens? 16-85 t/2.8

I do not like zoom Lenses, I want primes, the most wanted prime Lenses for me are 300mm 4.0, 400mm 4.5 and 500mm 5.6 and a Sony 1.4x tele extender for the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM.

My biggest selling regret, . I guess that would be selling my pre global art 85mm 1.4 sigma. it had creamy background blur, and I made some nice pictures with it. at the time I found the nikon 85 1.8 for some reason better, I think it had less vignetting. I did get the 300mm f4 with the money I got from it. And I also like that lens. Since then I have a hard time selling glass. I should though, I have the 120-300 sitting here (pre art) in the bag being very heavy.
@DaveMcKeegan
@DaveMcKeegan 2 года назад
I also used to own the pre global 85mm, was my first venture into razor thin depths of field and loved the lens although found it rather prone to purple fringing then upgraded to the art.

What does "pre global" mean?
@jamesoliver6625
@jamesoliver6625 2 года назад
Define what constitutes "performs better" and as a real live picture taking "better". Does the difference in perceived performance actually make a difference. Such considerations changed the way I've thought about gear or a while now and saved a lot of GAS angst.
@DaveMcKeegan

The adapted lens struggles with focus in certain situations which based on the reviews, the E-mount 150-600 sport doesn't seem to suffer from
@MrChrissk

What about the 300 prime?
@DaveMcKeegan
@DaveMcKeegan 2 года назад
Price and availability for me There aren't any native E-mount 300mm f2.8's There is the Sony A-mount but that's about £5-6k The Canon EF newer versions are also pricey and while the older ones are cheaper I'm concerned about the compatibly with adapters Plus I often used to make use of the versatility of having a zoom range

I have to slightly disagree with you Dave! I'd prefer a much lighter 300mm f2.8 prime and even a very light 200mm f2.8 when I'm in need of that fast 2.8 aperture. For the zoom I would be happy enough with a 100-300 f4 which will be less than a Kilogram and so easy to walk around and even hike with and no need to mention it would be way cheaper! Minolta 200mm f2.8 was a beast of a lens which weighted only about 800g! I consider the mirrorless version could be even lighter and the 300mm f2.8 also. And if they accept teleconvertors then it would be a dream come true to me!

I have never liked Sigma lenses, stupidly heavy and autofocus is hit or miss. I would go for a used 300 2.8 any day of the week.
