Thanks for watching!! - I hope that you've found this video useful, and, or interesting... Is there anything you regret from your Photography "journey" so far... Whether you didnt go to that one location you've always wanted to visit, you didnt buy the Gear that you've longed for... Let me know down in the comments below!!

I did photography at school back in the day when we did CSE's! I bought a film SLR during a gap year in 1984 but didn't really keep up with photography for many years. I wish I did. Despite that I took some interesting photos in the 1980s and 1990s which are a record of decades which have now past. Although I regret not doing as much photography as I could until a few years ago, we are fortunate in the range of modern cameras and lenses. It's never too late to start. Thank you for your inspiring videos.

Thanks Shaun - That's another thing I do regret, not having focused on it whilst in education, but at that point my knowledge of that type of career was zero. Plenty of time left (I hope) to enjoy it still now though Thank you too for your kind words 👍👍

Great photos as always mate, early morning are always best for photography, nobody around and plenty of time before the day starts. loved the images of the abandoned buildings. No time like the present, get yourself back out there and make a video about it, would be great to see the difference. My biggest regret was buying before knowing, I spent way too much money on things I didn't really need lol love a long exposure shot, probably my favourite kind.

Cheers mate, might have to see if I can sneak closer later in the year to get back out there - Know what you mean about buying things you don't need... Impatience is probably an issue with me too, I'll buy something lesser rather than save up for the better version often rather than not

@@neilstevensphotography I tend to jump in, when really I should wait a few months read reviews and see what others think. More often that not I make the wrong choice and regret buying something or wishing I had a different version lol.

I particularly enjoyed this video, as Cliffe is the place of my birth, and over the years I've spent many a happy hour on the Marshes and around the Pools. Some lovely shots in there by the way. I must revisit soon.

Yeah I've always loved the trip out to Cliffe Pools as well, dont get out there enough - The Explosion Works (not the Muntion Works as I incorrectly stated) were something I found randomly on Google Earth, and was a lovely but tiring trek up there... Definitely wont be the last time I go there either, shame its not easier to access the grounds, as imagine some close up shots would be even better

I often wonder when do you do your piece to camera, before or after you’ve shot the scene. I’m often thinking to myself, “quick, take the shot now instead of talking to camera”.. I also wonder if you have any regrets regarding not photographing that ship into your sunset landscape, a kind of incorporating cloudscape into landscape into industrial landscape. Whatever one thinks, the planet isn’t always so pristine so as to exclude mankind’s contribution to all landscape. I’m new to your channel but very much sharing a strong and lifetime in the photographic world. I like the softness you bring to your rendering of scenes, kind of bucolic.

Great video, I am an amateur and aspiring photographer, I just wondered if you could tell me if you are over exposing your shots slightly and if so are you doing it with shutter speed, compensation, both or post production. thank you in advance.
@neilstevensphotography
@neilstevensphotography 2 месяца назад
@jonnyspeed6099 thanks for the comment... It really depends on the shot really, majority of the time I'll expose to the right, so that there is the slightest spike - Otherwise I tend to Bracket, so take three shots, one over exposed, one under exposed (the Sunrise shots were taken that way), and then use Lightroom to merge them together. Have never used Shutter Speed compensation, I shoot completely in Manual mode when doing it, watching the Histogram more than the EV to be honest Hope that helps?

I bought my first DSLR in April 2010. I thought I'd need it for work. I didn't. I tried out the camera and then left it buried in the closet. I started taking photographs three years ago when I launched my RU-vid channel and needed to make thumbnails. While food photography wasn't my thing and I think most of my video thumbnails suck, I did develop an interest in other photography genres, macro initially, then landscape/woodland. Lately, I've been trying out some street and architecture photography. So I had a very competent camera with two equally competent (even by today's standards) lenses for ten years. I could make good use of the gear, but I didn't. This is my greatest regret.
@neilstevensphotography
@neilstevensphotography 2 месяца назад
Yeah I can definitely relate to that, what with getting my first DSLR in 2013, which I barely used for eight years!! - Hope that you feel as though you're getting much more use out of it now though?

@@neilstevensphotography I've sold it and bought a mirrorless instead, but yes, I'm getting a lot of use from my current gear. I still sometimes think about where I'd be with my photography if I hadn't wasted a decade the way I did.

@@DominikMarczuk Yeah Mirrorless cameras are so much better, for me at least anyway. It didn't take me long to upgrade once I got back into it
@DominikMarczuk
@DominikMarczuk 2 месяца назад
@@neilstevensphotography Mirrorless cameras are easier to use because you always know the exposure you're getting. The histogram is an added bonus. I still love SLRs though and shoot a lot of film. Which reminds me. I need to run to the lab to pick up last week's negs and drop off yesterday's roll for development :)

Dude, it's nearly 7 minutes of this 13+ minute video and I hear "before we get started" on the titular subject. Where did you learn to structure your essays? And then: 5 seconds that practically close the subject. This should be a tiktok short. And I'm not saying a bad word about your photography, mind you.
