Once I grew awareness of my hands, and what triggers my body-focused repetitive behavior urges with the help of the Keen bracelet, I was able to create management strategies and actually have the strength, and motivation, to act on them.

This won’t work if your Trich is related to anxiety and depression. It isn’t just a habit, it’s a coping mechanism and sometimes just being aware is not enough to stop.
@Habitaware
@Habitaware 8 месяцев назад
actually it can work to help you learn to manage. Stopping is not goal... its about building awareness of the trancelike behavior and then using the vibration as a cue to identify and sit with the dysregulating anxiousness or sadness. Its about using the cue to acknowledge the discomforting emotion and then opening the door to conscious control. As someone with both anxiety and depression, both are at bay using the strategies I leveraged once aware of my trich. It takes work - but healthy joyful work to learn to love yourself and turn the anxiety around. AND also working with a treatment professional on those thought processes! Please don't knock something til you try it. Anyone reading this - keep the hope! recovery is possible! love ♥️, strength 💪, & awareness 👀, Aneela (HabitAware cofounder in trichotillomania recovery)

Exactly! When my anxiety level is high I usually pull for hours until my body and mind feels calm enough to not need it. It’s a pain in the ass and I never went a week without pulling and I started 15 years ago.

I had this keen bracelet a year ago and it was vibrating for no reason whatsoever when I wasn’t even putting my hand up. This thing is absolutely terrible and y’all should just go with antidepressants instead. They help a lot more.

sorry to hear you had that experience. I wish you reached out so we could help you the way we have helped tens of thousands take control of their restless hands and restless minds with our smart bracelet and behavior change methodologies. The gesture detection is highly dependent on the wrist based behavior trained. This is why we have always offered a free video training call. In fact, 85% of Keen family find success after one of these empowering calls. We've also made substantial changes to our detection algorithm. Best of luck to you! And to anyone reading, just know your experience with becoming HabitAware can be different and we know it to be true because we've seen it time and time again! love ♥️, strength 💪, & awareness 👀, Aneela (HabitAware cofounder in trichotillomania recovery)

I have a question. Is Trichotillomania only the act of pulling out the hairs. I found myself playing with my hair line hair. To the point that it was balding. I recently shaved off all my hair and starting oiling and got my hair back. But I realized I had been doing it to my eyebrows (just not to the extent of balding). My "goal" was never to pull out hairs. But I did have balding patches. Do I have Trichotillomania? (Best guess obviously, not looking for a medical diagnosis)
@Habitaware
@Habitaware Год назад
def can;t give a diagnosis, but can give my understanding of the medical definition of trich: "recurrent, irresistible urges to pull out hair from your scalp, eyebrows, or other areas of your body, despite trying to stop...and causes significant disruption in one's life". So I would put it back to you - does it cause distress in your life? Do you want to take control. Those answers can guide you on the steps you may/may not need to take to reduce the behaviors in your life. Also it may not be Trich bc you are not actively pulling, but the hair is just falling out, but it could be classified as a Body Focused Repetitive Behavior as you are using a repeated motion and the body to self sooth and it is causing physical damage (a harsh term, i know) and may be causing mental distress. I hope this helps. love ♥, strength 💪, & awareness 👀, Aneela (HabitAware cofounder in trichotillomania recovery)

great question! some folks do use it as a way to spread awareness. Others just say "its my activity tracker" Others just say "its none of your business ;)" The response will depend on who is doing the asking and how much you know them, trust them and want them to know. We have an offer to get $30 off a set of two. Or you could also try our "KeenLite" apple watch app for your other wrist. love ♥️, strength 💪, & awareness 👀, Aneela (www.HabitAware.com cofounder in trichotillomania recovery)

My hair pulling is always very intentional and focused, I go through “sessions” that may last hours at a time. I don’t think this bracelet would help me
@aneelaidnani
@aneelaidnani 3 месяца назад
i thought that too but it is still about bringing you into awareness AND control -- if the focused session is lasting hours it means there's no control. That's what happened to me when I knew i was getting up, going to the bathroom and getting my tweezers. As soon as the vibration happened it snapped me out of the focused trance. You should try it before you pass judgement. love ♥, strength 💪, & awareness 👀, Aneela (HabitAware cofounder in trichotillomania recovery)

I have trich too & I'm 90% pull free and 100% shame free after 20+ yrs in hiding and cover up. We don't say the bracelet stops you. The bracelet helps you become aware so you can learn to replace. HabitAware is leveraging Habit Reversal Therapy principles (the gold standard). Awareness training with our smart bracelet, competing response training with our e-course methodology and support training with our online community. This takes work & we are a game changer time and again for so many in the BFRB community! it's not easy but it is doable when the effort is put in. love ♥, strength 💪, & awareness 👀, Aneela (HabitAware cofounder in trichotillomania recovery)
