Nice collection and thanks for sharing. Jazz is my passion and makes up the bulk of my collection, though I have all manner of genres. Point being though, it's always enjoyable watching others share pieces of their own jazz collection, Blue Note or otherwise. It's great to share in this - not just a passion of records, but, in this case, jazz as well. Thanks again and keep up the great work.

Always love seeing new videos from you, Armien! Love seeing the Japanese pressings and the line "I have my entire life to collect Blue Notes" made me smile. It is the time it takes to get some of our prized targets that makes them that much more appreciated. Keep up the great videos please. All the best, Stavros

Hi Stavros, I am glad you liked it! The japanese pressings are always a good way to go. Specially for us people here in europe that will never find any good originals or early pressings. Thanks for watching and commenting my friend :) Armien

Not sure I've said anything yet, but I dig the new intro. I absolutely LOVE the Japanese pressings of Blue Note records as well. Hi Armien That's a very nice collection of blue notes you have there, so thanks for sharing. I'm still in the infancy of building up some classic jazz vinyl, getting there slowly but surely with the standards first then hopefully some more obscure stuff along the way. Love Norah Jones, still need to pick that one up, didn't realise it was on Blue Note. Cheers Dean

Very nice collection. Had no idea that "Blue Note Revisited" was ever released on vinyl. Japanese pressing of Herbie Hancock, wow! Hi Anders, thank you! Yes, the japanese pressings are always a good way to go. I made the experience that the japanese king pressings sound best. They were manufactured in the 70s. The toshiba are good as well and can often be found a little cheaper. Thanks for watching :) Armien

Still a tonne of classic Blue Note albums to add to your collection. If I was you I'd be looking for the following records next (all Blue Note essentials): Art Blakey: Moanin' or A Night In Tunisia (or any of the early live albums) Larry Young: Unity Hank Mobley: Workout or Soul Station Ike Quebec: Blue And Sentimental Joe Henderson: Page One Kenny Dorham: Una Mas or Trompeta Tocatta Horace Parlan: Up & Down My collection runs to nearly 10,000 records so this video got me wondering just how many Blue Note albums I have in amongst all that. I don't consciously go out to collect Blue Note specifically but I do collect all sorts of jazz, so I guessed I'd got quite a few. The first one I ever bought was Lee Morgan's Sidewinder. Just how cool is that record! Absolute class. I love the catchy bop stuff like the title track.

Hi Armien, really great Blue Note-collection! Some great titles there and i really liked that Jimmy Smith album. Do you have any recording year on that Smith-album? Very good my friend but there’s a few essentials you need to fill the glaring gaps. My suggestions would be: Moanin’ by Art Blakey, Sunny Side Up by Lou Donaldson, Trompeta by Kenny Dorham, Soul Station and/or Workout by Hank Mobley, Leo Parker Rollin’ with Leo, Up and Down by Horace Parlan.

Nice collection on all fronts. I primarily collect Jazz and R&B, Blues etc. I am 57 and recall starting with my 1st-3 Buys in 7th Grade: Jethro Tull-Aqualung, Led Zepplin-II & CS&N-#1, So we are on the same page. Buy 100 direct Lp's throughout the Midwest, Denver-Colorado, KC-Kansas & Lincoln-Omaha Nebraska. Recently saw Calvin Keys (w/Ahmad Jamal) and he was draggin' his own New Vinyl LP "Electric Keys" along for the ride. Last Year bouught over 350 used on Discogs and several "Can't Stop Listening To" recommends are: Frank Morgan-Lament, Brian Auger OE-Reinforcements, Robert Cray-False Acqusations, Most are on CD but you can get on Lp and the sound is fantastic. Yes, I'm Sick! Also, just purchased my 1st new 180 Gram by Joey DeFrancesco "One For Sinatra". Pricy at $30 but Joey is the "Baddest Man on the Planet". His only other Vinyl release is "All of Me" which is a keeper and highly recomended. This is the one that put him on the map w/John McLaughlin, Larry Coryell, Miles etc. and the rest is history. Keep Reporting. Very Nice! Bob, Denver, Co

Really interesting. Given your post was nearly 4 years ago, how's the collecting going? May I recommend the Bobbi Humphrey Blue Note albums. I guess you are not as fond of the modern sound of Blue Note (aka. Alphonse Mouzon and Bobbi Humphrey) however, these artists and albums were important to the canon in the 1970s. Mouzon went on to record the outstanding 'By All Means' (though not for Blue Note) and Humphrey went more funky disco with Epic Records ('Freestyle' and 'The Good LIfe' are outstanding on Epic)...

Hallo, tolle Sendung!

@Robert-ci9ze
@Robert-ci9ze 9 лет назад
@AudiophileLaws

@AudiophileLaws
@AudiophileLaws 9 лет назад

Which is the difference between a normal vinyl and one with Japanese label?? the Japanese accentuate more the sharp sound ?? Scuse me i don´t speak english.
@AudiophileLaws

Netroxic Japanese pressings are just great in quality over all. They used a virgin vinyl material, had a special mastering so the records mostly sound a lot better than other reissues.

Armien, you should get "Larry Young - Unity", please do yourself a favour and listen to it and then buy it, one of the best jazz albums of all time for me.

Armien, the Dexter Gordon and the Eric Dolphy, I have given it try after try, but I don't/ can't dig it. So complicated and, in other words, impenetrable music. To me, Lonely Woman by Ornette Coleman is "easy stuff" compared to these vinyls. A question to you, Armien: what is the idea behind keeping the OBI's around the record-sleeve, since it ruins the enjoyable front-picture for 80%?? I mean, let's take Holiday's Body And Soul. It came in from Japan with (ugly) orange OBI. Guess what I did with it. It seems so difficult to understand why on earth to keep them in place. Love your footage, once again!! Don't stop these actions, Boy!! Like them a lot.
@AudiophileLaws
@AudiophileLaws 9 лет назад
Out To Lunch can be a hard listen. It's one of the more free Blue Note titles and complicated indeed. Well, actually you are right with the OBI strips. They ruin the cover in a way. Never the less I like the "exotic" feel of the japanese letters and I like the fact that you can identity the record as japanese pressing in a second. I started to put them behind the cover in the sleeve but I would never throw them away since they are part of the pressing. By the way: I am always happy to buy japanese pressing without OBI since they are often a little cheaper. What do you think about it?
@dorkadezso5826
@dorkadezso5826 9 лет назад
AudiophileLaws Cheaper?? Man!! the seller can buy the OBI from me for a dollar... I mean, they are in neon, and they carry information that I can't decipher. That's an easy choice, isn't it.

To Dorka Dezsö: Hi. I am amazed that you find Dexter Gordon "impenetrable". He was a straight ahead player, and nothing like Eric Dolphy. Check out the first three or four Blue Note albums that he did when he was first signed by them. The supporting players, including Sonny Clark on two 1962 sessions, are excellent. Dexter was a top echelon tenor saxophone player. The word "gravitas" is used.

I'm sure these sound good but even a Liberty RVG would be my choice over a reissue. Those original RVG presses can't be beat even with light to moderate wear. All of my Blue Notes have been found in the wild or through trades. We all collect differently so if he's happy that's all that matters.

I have wondered for a long time why those original LPs can't be recreated. It isn't brain surgery. I was around during the 1960s and had many of the original Blue Note (and other) LPs. At the time, they were just LPs. There was absolutely no fuss made about them.

How can you afford all these Expensive LP's.Your 25, do you work? As a Owner of a Business and a Hobby Musician believe me you can't woodshed enough to listen to all these properly and study them. Are you Royalty? Nice Digs! Note, be careful with the old "Blue Note" or before 1965 stuff or you will find yourself wanting to cut your wrists from this "Repetitious and Over-Jammed Music". I am surprised it doesn't come with a Mood Enhancer to counter the Depression. Plus they will dull your outlook on Music. No one likes a "Jazz Snob" especially "Sexy Chicks". Check out some of the 80's Labels (Palo Alto, GRP, Muse, ECM, Alligator, Rounder, Takoma, Galaxy, Flying Fish ). All types of Good Music, Live a Little. Example: The Eddie Daniels Lp's on GRP are as good as anything ever issued. I would suggest "To Bird with Love" as a Mint copy is $6 and you cant stop listening to it. One of my all time favorites. He is as good as 90% of the Blue Note guys. Also, Europe has Vinyl pressings we never even had issued in the States but should have been. You can get these now for nothing and they will also be considered Classics. Buy them before the good copies are gone. Looks like in 1989+ this party stopped in he USA and Europe got 3-4 Years more of Vinyl issues. Lucky! You should be able to buy 7-10 "VG to -M" Quality Lps for $25/American or less on Discogs. Just on Discogs I purchased about 350 LP's alone for about $800. This does not even include Record Store, etc. buys across the Midwest which is loaded with Vinyl to buy. By the way I have 12 Authentic Signed Mint/Miles Davis, a Coltrane, Count Basie , Etc. LP's. Why don't you just buy Signed-LPs, less cost and much Cooler on the Wall.
