Awesome Rach - so pleased you're getting some faster riding in - it really shows how much good it's doing you... I fixed a puncture on Oliver's balance bike yesterday and even though it's only 12", it's the only tyre I need levers on #monsterthumbs

Tip for your dry hands. Buy some organic raw coconut oil, and use the coconut oil as a hand lotion before going to bed. Works like a charm. Can also be used in the bedroom.

having a place like that for building and modifying your own track is like winning the lottery ! Cutting branches with cutting pliers here in (BE) Flanders is enough already to upset the tree huggers...

There is no set number of "pops" when tire beads are seating. Metal tire levers will often cause damage to the rim. Only rarely are levers actually needed. Rims commonly have a shallow trough (where there is a rim strip, it will lie in the bottom of the trough) in the middle of the rim, which the tire can be manipulated into so that the tire becomes slightly off-center. While one side of the tire is in the trough, the opposite side will have a little extra room so that the tire bead can be slid over the edge of the rim. Enough air has to be removed from the tire first.

If you have a circular trash can, I find that putting the tire flat on that helps me gain leverage to pull the tire casing over the rim. it's something I learned from other bike mechanics while working in bike shops.

I too always use tire levers. Why make it harder when it's so easy and you can do it with tough plastic ones? I use pedro's, but I'm sure there's plenty of strong ones out there that are lightweight. I carry 1-2 in my pack

Hey Rachel .. you just forgot to mention that the tires will come off easily only if they are high end tires with kevlar rest line .. the cheap ones with stainless rest line or side ropes are though to come off.. anyway .. great job ... because i can see you're doing well also with the recovery .. :-)
