It's wonderful to see how very gentle you are with her and her babies. Just makes me feel better about the world somehow, to know that there are people out there who care for animals like this.
I can tell your call duck is really happy, her feathers are all perfect and glossy, and she keeps waggling her tail and is very active! You must really love your little ducky buds :)
I sure do they are fed the best food clean fresh water every day, all runs are washed out every day every other day disinfectant is also used and bleached once a month on the outside as i have installed drains in the outside runs so i can wash away all poop. :)
baldfatgit1 I already have, not the greatest quality, but definitely dripping with cuteness. Hatching Calls is pretty stressful, but I got a 66% hatch rate. Not too bad!
They sure do pair up for life, When Quacker died in my arms a few years ago Jack would go outside and stand on the pond filter cover and call out for her for hours as it was the last place he saw her alive. It took him about 2 weeks to get over it in the 2 weeks he would suddenly remember her and go calling for her all around the garden.
How those Ducklings feel like do they feel like holding a baby chick. Cause I know how baby chick feel but with baby Ducklings I don't know what they feel like. Any tip or idea.🦆
@@amybatesfansofundertakeran5738 It sure did they were very fragile but if handled correctly they were yellow balls of fluff loved it. The mum in the vid you watched is still alive albeit very old now 14 years old and just about still going here with me. :)
Hi i am bit confused here, You say you have a girl duck and HES black and white ??????. I do strongly insist that you do some research on the subject of bringing baby ducks into the world. Without being rude to yourself and with the greatest of respect it is not as easy as putting a "Boy" duck with your "girl" duck it is way more than that. so i think you do really need to read up and FULLY understand what you have sent me by the way of the question.
+baldfatgit1 well actully when is saw it on the store its seeds buy a duck for 2 dollars and there were 2 last duck one flat and the fat obe so i pick the fat oje any way every time i want her on my hands she fly away from me sence she fly high
Dont worry dad I also got emotional, nothing is more precious than a momma duck bathing her happy healthy baby ducklings! It just melts my heart! Thank you for posting this! :)
Great video! I really loved the bath section, and especially at 8:55 minutes into the video (when the the babies are out of the sink) how Abbey dunks in the water for a thorough cleaning! :)
Beautiful ducks you've got there. I know this is an old video, but i would be nice if you could get one of those kiddie pools for them to swim if you have more babies. It would give them more space.
Aaaw, they're so cute. Though it might be a good idea to use a carrier when you're moving a mother and babies, that way you can move them all together and the mother won't go nuts waiting for all her babies to join her.
Hi! That was great! I have not logged in in a while and there this was waiting for me to watch. Abbey is a beautiful mama duck and the babies so cute. They are probably all grown up now. They grow up so fast!
They sure are and if you accept that they poop a lot you will have a great time ahead with them i know i have had them for over 7 years with the added bonus that ever plant flower grape vine grows like they are on steroids :)
Hi the clue is in the title :) i have male and female ducks they bonk there brains out every day i take the now fertile eggs pop em in the an incubator and 28 days later voila. In this vid i let Abbey {the mum} raise them. My fist pair of ducks i started with was purchased from a poultry farm they sell chickens ducks geese ect. so yes you can buy a duck like a cat or a dog just from a different place,. :)
Taking care of ducklings is not that hard really just feed them make sure they have fresh water to drink. They do the rest, The water temp is just luke warm in the winter during the summer they can swim on the pond. I feed them "Crum" its designed for ducklings as they have small beaks. As they get older i gradually wean them onto normal food and add wheat and maize as they become adults i introduce meal worms in small amounts to add some protein to there diet. :)
CLEARLY i see you do not own ducks !herb grass!?? !mix leaves in to the wood chips! ??? with "good quality EARTH" ??? The WOOD SHAVINGS i use is DUST FREE it has been KILN DRIED so no resin, I clean them out everyday and spread the WOOD SHAVINGS around with my hands. I HAVE NEVER GOT A SPLINTER EVER. And lastly a splinter up my ducks laying "sensitive tissue" is impossible because if you knew ducks you would know that there is thick feathers covering that area and remember ITS WATER TIGHT.
Firstly thank you for your nice comments. I am no organization i just simply keep ducks i take the eggs from the mums and dad incubate them raise them myself so they are imprinted then either sell them to other duck lovers or swap them for duck food ect at my local poultry farm. I have no outlet for them at the moment so i wont breed any as that is not fair if the little ones have no home to go to. :)
Just love them One of my grey ducks has hurt his hip jumping down off the wall. So he is limping bad we sat in the garden Friday evening as it was quite a warm evening and he just sat on my lap nibbling my chin for over and hour. Every 10 minutes he would start to fidget so id put him down he,d poop then id pick him up again and so it went on for just over an hour very nice that :~) Thank you for your nice comments :~)
lol The sink you see in the vid is in my "man cave" workshop next to the duck house so very easy to get them used to water. The other reason is it was well below freezing outside so ducks arnt normally hatched so late into the winter. if i let them out they would sure die pretty quick. Because my "man cave" has central heating like your home it fools the ducks into laying much later into the year so in the sink so to get them used to water. :~)
DEPRESSED???? CROWDED???? PLEASE BEFORE YOU GET TO SAD LOOK AT SOME OF MY OTHER VIDS. You will see they have a "yard" to run around in 2100 gallons of water to play wash and drink {even heated in the winter} They have all the sun they can get and as much fresh air as they can breath. They have a duck run that is as about as safe as you can get even heated in the winter. Fresh sawdust every 2 DAYS and washed out with disinfectant at the same time. JUDGE ME THEN. Let me know what you think. :(
its easy I laid down an offcut of rubber pond liner painted the walls so when its time to clean out I sweep it all out pop it into a bag ready for recycling. {it get used for composting } squirt some disinfectant over the walls and the rubber matting a good wipe down. Thrown in some fresh wood shavings {meant for horses really but soaks up everything and sticks to the poo} and your ready to go. You can sprinkle over the shavings for 2 days then need to start again.Takes 30 mins for 3 runs. :)
There is no rules on keeping duck here in the uk you can normally buy them from your local poultry farm of from people like myself. Here in Bristol there is 1 poultry farm selling ducks and at least 3 people like myself selling them. The other people like myself I met through the local paper and we swap ducks between us they have become good friends and Sophie and Abbey came from them. The other buys my eggs and incubates them then sell them on ive been friends with them for over 14 years :~)
Hi congratulations if Mum is raising them there is not much to do. The only thing you much watch out for is water don't leave a bowl of water ware the babies can get in but cant get out or they will sure drown. Even the drinker they drink from make sure its not to deep as they could have a problem there. I had this problem and I forgot to remove the bowl of water when I got home Sophie was going nuts as 2 of her babies had fallen in and drowned. that's it really plenty of "crumb" {baby food} :)
Hi The pekins might get a bit defensive for a while but i suggest you keep them apart for a few days {say in a run fenced off} this will let the call ducks get used to there surroundings. Also the pekins can come over and inspect the visitors.Observe what they do if they start trying to peck them through the fence then it might be a while before you can let them mix. On the other hand they might be ok and can let them out after a few days but keep and eye on them so not to have any fighting. :)
Hi thanks for the nice comments:) Yes i do have a tub but as they are very young i bath them in the sink as they get wetter they can sink this way they can get out to dry off. Also this sink is not in my house but in my !Man cave! that right next to there run so easer to move them around. Trying to move 6 to 8 babies in one go is not good as Abbey {the mum} will go nuts as you can see in the vid so easer in the sink all round :) I have also a 2000 gallon pond for when they are older to bathe in.
Thank you for the nice comments. :) Yes they are difficult to hatch thats for sure if i put 20 eggs in the incubater the drop out rate is about 65% so out of 20 say 8 are not firtile then 4 goes into a blood ring at about 7 days 2 will die at almost 25days 2 will die trying to hatch leaving about 4 that might survive at 28 days. They are sure hard to hatch but i seemed to be getting better results near the end of the season last year with a 40% drop rate. :)
Clearly by looking at your channel i gues you are between 12 and 16 years old and you have NEVER taken on any responsibility in your entire short life other than sit and play your computer games.Looking after animals of any type IS A VERY BIG RESPONSIBILITY. Owning firearms is even more important than shooting guns in Sniper Elite 2 "A Computer game" As you might have noticed looking over the side of your cot while having your nappy changed i do all 3 and the guns are REAL. :~)
Thank you for the nice comments I had 22 eggs in the incubator 17 were not fertile leaving 5 with a chance then two turned into a blood rings so i was left with 3, 2 died hatching but the last one hatched a few days early so he was the sole survivor. I have reared (him i think) from day one alone so he has turned out to be a bit diferent than the rest so there might be an addition to my flock. He will star in his own YT vid very soon. :)
They dont roam around my house what you are looking at is the sink in my workshop. The glass enclosure is infact a plastic door and that is ware they sleep at night. During the day they have another enclosure with another plastic door this has a hatch that leads outside to a caged area that has a strong wire door attatched and they can roam around the garden and jump in the pond when ever they like. if they get scared or need to eat they can go back inside the way they came and be safe inside.
Hi yes to the first question if STARSAPPHIRES cared to watch my other vids i have a 6feet deep 1700 gallon koi pond fully filtered and heated at 16 degrees in the winter.Mum and dad use it all year round but the babies will die of exposure if allowed to use it it was -12 outside with a few inches of snow on the ground. So they will bath in the sink until they are older and can handle the cold a bit better. :) Thank you for the nice comments as well. :)
Hi again i understand now well if you care to read the header they are MY call ducks and by no means wild in any way and if you say have 10 eggs you will have about a 45 to 65% fail rate that is normal they are all raised in this vid with my tender care and supervision so the ducks you see taking a bath in the sink all survived and are still alive over a year later and the femals have had babies themselves. :)
Yes you are so right bread in small doses is ok if you watch they will normaly mix it with water then swallow. also if you notice when they drink they scoop up the water then tip there head back to poor it down there throat with food they pick it up in there beaks then let it go and at the same time thrust there head foward to move the food to the back of there throat. Mellon is good lettice, sweet corn, or the best is dried meal worms but not to many as its protine and makes there poo runny.:)
Hi They are not fighting or trying to drown each other what they are doing is mating they mate on water when ever they can so not to crush the female on land and they grab the back of the neck / head to hold on. After a while they get a bald sore spot because of it. :) The green brown ones are probly malard ducks the white ones im not sure but the white ones will show up the !scab! or sore spot easer than the brown ones. :)
When the babies are about 1 1/2 months old i sell them as pets what i do is sell them to a local chicken and duck farm that sells ducks and chickens as pets plus feed and drinkers ect the owner is very good with ducks and i normaly trade a few babys for feed grain ect so the whole hobby costs me next to nothing. And her buisness gets a good deal :) everyone is happy and her customers get some realy nice hand reared tame pet ducks.
Hi no dad is around at the time of this vid i had Em and Jack { Jack being Ems dad} Ems mum died a few years ago so Abby {The mum in this vid} took her place both the drakes {males} were mating with her but once she sits on the eggs the males leave her alone so the males are free to roam around with mum {Abby} but when she returns to her eggs the leave her alone. This was one of there firsts baths so the babys are still unsure what to do so they get out until they are sure its safe then return.
Your english is VERY GOOD ok :) My house is a detatched house {that means it stands on it own with no other house joined on to mine} So i built a workshop down the side of me rear garden and attatched it to my house its 46 feet long a few years later i built an extra 16 foot extention on the end of my workshop {the duck house} i fitted it out with wood flooring and paint {all recycled} it has a gas boiler fitted so heated in the winter to keep them warm. It was built like a house but for ducks
Hi Start with no bread because it has not enough goodness in it and just blocks them up. They will eat list as follows. :) Layer pellets (like what chickens eat), Wheat,Maze,Grass,Pond Weed,Fish Food {Koi}, Worms {THEY WILL FIGHT FOR WORMS}, Slugs {They love slugs}, Caterpillars,Meal, Worms {Dried ones} And Mud {Hunting for worms} :) Hope that answers some of your questions. :)
We do try me and my daughter just loves animals and she dont like any animal getting hurt or not looked after just like me. We have a tiny brown field mouse living under the duck house and he clears all the spild feed that is left in the garden. He is so friendly he does not run and hide if im outside because he knows i will not hurt him in any way. If he became a pest {and he is not} ill catch him in a trap that wont kill him and set him free over the fields. thanks for the nice comments :)
Hi Nancy As soon as they hatch give them 2 to 3 days to get a bit stronger. Then use a shallow tray (i use a paint roller tray) deep at one end shallow at the other warm the water a little and check its not to warm. then dunk em in the shallow end. They will know what to doKeep an eye on them cos they will have no oils in the feathers and will get water logged. 5 to 10 mins is ok then take them out and dry them off then back under the heat lamp after 2 to3 times and they will expect it every day
@ebrach121 Thanks for the nice comments by the way. :) If they are being raised by there mum then just provide food and drinking water (not to deep or they might drown) if you are raising them then same as before but show them the food and water and just dip the heads in the water then hold there heads back (thats how they swallow) then with a wet beak dip into the food 2 or 3 times will be enough they will know from then on. :)
@willbird95 Hi Not sure why it was flagged as spam this was not my doing so i unspammed it :) What you will need to do like in my vid you will need to separate mum and babies from the male as he sees them as a threat to his domain. Your male duck dont think like us humans you see and does not see them as his children because mum raised them he would have no contact with them untill they were hatched.so just a threat. As they get older he will accept them or you will sell them so problem gone
Very well all but two of them as far as i am aware are all alive grown up living on a farm in South wales the other two {witch ones in the vid im not sure} were kept by the local poultry farm on there own pond i know because i was told they were there by the owner and i went to see them for myself. When i called them they knew it was me but did not come to close. :~)
Thank you for the nice comments .. hehehe I wont become a millionaire raising ducks that's for sure because they have to be going to a good home first and foremost and the money I charge for them is just enough to cover the food JUST. The money is not important the welfare of the ducks is. I just simply love raising ducks :~)
No not really but you must have a routine as they expect things to happen at certain times of the day. Like for example it starts to get dark so they want to come in for the night they expect to have some meal worms then later they will know I will come to see them and pick them up. so not really its just a small labour of love. :~)
Bless :~) no I am an Field service engineer driving around the uk repairing Big laser printers or A3 plotters or repairing networks in business. My back ground is computer and laptop diagnostic repairs working with the likes of Dell IBM etc. This is just for the love of animals Ducks fish and birds. :~)
Thank you for the nice comments. :~) No I don't keep them in my house if you notice in my vids it is a ! MAN CAVE ! or a workshop that I built years ago. I extended it a while ago and built the extension with ducks/Rabbits/Fish in mind. Its heated and has hot running water even a loo so everyone is happy even me :~)
Your English is very good and I am not worried about the haters they haven't understood how to look after baby ducks, If you let them go in the pond outside they cannot get up to in as its raised off the ground and for the first few weeks this is more controlled and mum can see and control how she looks after them. :~)
Aww bless thats fine but they are wild ducks and not "imprinted" so it will NEVER be like my ducks or ducks bread in captivity as they will not let them near you. If you get a duck say from people like me who breed them from birth they will see us humans as one of there own and wont run away. They will then make very good pets but a wild duck will get stressed right out. :)
Sorry to hear that Do you have males and females ? if so do they ! practice ! if they do some of your eggs will be fertile if you leave them ware she laid them once she has about 4 to 8 she will start building a nest around them then she will sit on them like mine did. :) Thank you for the nice comments as well :)
Hi Its not when they lay its when they have enough eggs to sit on {about 6 to 8 eggs} from that day its about 28/29 days to hatch. If kept at room temp or in the fridge they can be started up to 8 to 10 days after they have been laid but not all of them will hatch. This is because they only lay one a day so they have to keep for a week so to get enough to hatch. :)
Yes one is my daughter the others were her boyfriend and my daughters friend that pop in to say hi.My daughter normaly helps me move the ducks around if there is a lot of them and if im stuck in work she will take over looking after them until i return home so allways fully supervised until they are old enough to be without the heat lamp on them. :)
Well you are wrong i am sorry to say why she is going nuts about is that we have taken her babies away and she is left with out them. she is a very good mum and very protective of her babies and she likes them with her at all times. When she was finished in the ! bath ! she was reunited with her little ones and all was well in the world with her then :)
Yes a bit of cheap disinfectant pine works best watered down 50 / 50 it will kill the smell in there run instantly pop it into a used sprayer and spray it on it works every time for me. There poo will smell anyway but it will smell worse if you dont keep there run clean thats why you see my runs are mostly clean all the time. i hope that helps :)
Yes i fitted a conservatory between my house and my workshop so i can walk around in the winter in the warm right round to my ducks without ever going outside. very cosy when it is -15 in the winter :) Also my worshop boiler heats my Koi pond in the winter to +15 so even when it is -15 outside and snowing my Koi are kept warm at +15 :)
They are always yellow so as i have a pure white female and a pure white male if they are yellow they will turn pure white. Now if i get babies from Sophie {she is brown} with the father pure white its a lottery ticket what you get at the end that bit i love. :)
Many animals need to have multiple "babies" at a time because not all of them will make it to breeding age. We humans give birth to just 1 baby at a time typically, but that child has like a 95% chance or higher of making it to breeding age. 6/7 is pretty good actually
Perhaps they do but they have the whole garden to run around in and they don't know anything else they are also very safe and warm all year round in there enclosure. I also keep it very very clean even with disinfectant scrubs every 2 to 3 days. so not that bad really. :~)
Hi i dont bathe them in the tub because for one they are to small and secondly the tub is in my house upstairs to far away to move them all. They are bathing in my "man cave"next to there duck house much easier to move around in AND the missus wont moan either :)
These are call ducks i have one pure white male one pure white female and one brown female so i get either pure white babies or sometimes brown babies or more often than not i get really nice jet black and white babies with pink and black webbed feet and brown beaks :)
