This is a really great collection. It gets me thinking how different manufacturing is today vs only 50 years ago. I buy cast iron pans pots to restore/ reseason, but wow! This is awesome'!
Really enjoyed the video. I had never seen all of those different cast iron grills, thanks. I am currently restoring my ~ 1995 Lodge Sportsman Grill with the wildlife door, it got left outside too often... I've been using it all these years. It is an awesome design.
David K Thanks Dave I had a lot of fun making the video. There seems to be no end to the things you can do with these grills and accessories. I mentioned a Facebook group at the end of the video, if you get a chance check us out, good people and lots of different grills.
I found one in an antique shop. Marked Atlanta stove works. With the fry pan We use it all the time. The fry pan has numbers and markings on it. Not sure how old it is. The fry pan is like new. Square handles.
OnTheFritz602 if you have a keen interest in these grills check out the FB group I was talking about, bunch of people that are just as nuts about these as I am.
Glad you liked the video. As far as I know Lodge has no plans to discontinue their grill it's a very good seller. you can clean the cooking grate just like any other grill. Some people line the fire bowl with tinfoil and also the fire grate and they take a pair of scissors to open up between the grate so air can come through this way the grill never really gets dirty to begin with. Using the tinfoil has the added benefit of reflecting the heat and raising the cooking temp. personally I use compressed air to clean out the cool ashes, just because I have it available.
This is Totally Awesome!!! I have my 1st grill on the way Everdure name Brand. Can I season this thing with PAM Veg. spray when I first get it . Thanks Joedy
Thank you so much for these wonderful videos! learned a lot, will join your FB page if permitted. The Sportsman is a wonder -- a fascinating little stove really, there's nothing you couldn't do with it. You could do impressive shore dinners for a sizeable crowd if you could get your hands on one of the fish fryers.
Great collection and sportsman grill collection. Where does one get the top pans you mention? Have you or your group contacted Lodge to see if they are bringing them back out? Lodge must have the top pan molds based on doing the wildman series? Would love to add it to my camping...Thoughts?
Scott Gorvett Hi Scott thank you, glad you like the video. The way to get the pans is to watch Ebay, Craigslist or join some of the Facebook groups like the one I mentioned. I talked to the public relations manager at Lodge and he said they were thinking of doing the Sportsman Wildlife series hibachi grill again but there was no mention of the oval roaster.
Condition is very important, rust, missing parts, busted parts will all detract from the value. I have seen new condition grills go for over $200. Rusty used grills go for around $100/$125 I have also seen them go for $50
You are right. This is a sampling of my cast iron grill collection, my objective with this video was to show the history of the Sportsman grill and some of the other interesting grills there are some that I did not show becouse I ran out of room ! I think you are referring to the Lodge Outpost grill, don't have one yet but I am always on the hunt.
Lawrence Moran glad you liked the video, it was several hundred pounds of cast iron to move then came the hard part that I really hadn't thought about -- I had to talk !! lol.
