Totally agree with reading new books within a short time, especially hardbacks. If I am not going to read a hardback soon after purchase I might as well wait until it comes out in paperback. My only TBR pile goal is not for it to be bigger at the end of the year than it is now. Plus/minus a couple I managed that in 23. Your reading goals sound good, enjoy.

Definitely! I always know I messed up when a book comes out on paperback and I still haven't read my hardcover copy 😂

Yay for 5k 🎉 I love these goals, especially the ones around new genres and fun. The Carol Shields prize wasn't one I'd heard of until you talked about it last year - I didn't actually know that when we were sisters won, but that book made it into my best books of the year and I heard about it on your channel 😊 I'm going to upload my goals video today, but a couple of mine are tbr spin (Jan ✔️) & to read authors that I own multiple books by.

Totally agree about buying books in person! Even B&N is preferable to something like Amazon for example.

Congrats on hitting 5k. My goal this year is to calm down my FOMO on brand new books. It's not necessary. I do a no buy January but I'm already compiling a giant list for next month.

haha I actually think I'm going to let FOMO guide me just a little bit this year! I usually entirely ignore it, but I started to listen to those feelings a little bit at the end of 2023 and it led to some fun reads and conversations. I just need to make sure I don't go overboard lol

Congratulations on the 5k!! 🎉 It's a constant struggle to read what's on the shelves and not the bright shiny new things. A great saying one BookTuber said for her owned tbr was, "the books will be there." That's the mantra I'm holding onto to focus on my shelves now too!

Lots of great goals! I always have a goal of reading at least one translated book a month and that is continuing on for me.

I am at 233 unread! Goal is to get below 200 before I buy anything else. Vlogs are tough. I love filming parts of them but not editing them. Live reading the expanse series with you 🎉

My nearest bookshop is 80 miles away. There’s a great independent bookshop there that I follow online , but I’ve never actually been there. So this year I really want to get there. I’m all for the fun stuff. I stopped reading serious stuff at Christmas and let myself read thrillers, romance, …I really needed it as I was Ill over Christmas & new year. I think our reading brains appreciate the variety.

I really hope wherever we live next will be closer to an independent bookstore haha I get so much joy out of visiting them! And I totally agree about reading fun stuff over Christmas. I leaned more towards that and it resulted in me being ready to pick up War & Peace again this month and now I have the end in sight!

Dangit I already filmed my 2024 goals video but now I feel like I should redo it and take some of yours too cause I love them lol. I need to look into that book prize you mentioned because I'm trying to get more into book prizes in 2024. Also congrats on hitting 5k!! that's awesome!! :) well deserved

haha it's always a struggle! The same thing always happens to me too after I put my video together lol I love the Carol Shields Prize because they have a good variety of books and they just started last year (and I really want them to stick around😊)
