My cheap Ecotec rebuild failed, but I fixed it! 

Before I even watched the video I said ‘ecotec - let me guess - timing chain guide’. My second timing set failed. I bought my kit from summit - can’t remember the brand. It was not cheap. Lasted about 10 months - So there she sits… I’m sure most of it is in the oil pan and the holes for the bolts that secure the guide are ovaled out at this point. I was just walking into the grocery store this past weekend and a Pontiac G6 slowly drove past me - I could hear the damn chain slapping around inside 😂. I hate those engines. Glad you caught it before it wrecked your valves.

Front guide, top bolt.. goes into the head and wobbles out.. Then guide rattles and breaks because the bolt hole walls are so thin. Did you use the updated head bung bolt design or re-use the original 10mm guide shoulder bolt is what I wonder? The balance chain tensioner is bizarre to snap like that, I've never seen a bad balance tensioner in ecotec yet, but I've seen many faulty primary tensioners which have been updated 3 or 4 times and still rattle the chain. Oil pump gerotors should be examined for trash scoring. Good job cleaning the pan and pickup tube etc, this is usually skipped by broken front guide repairs, the oil pickup tube is absolutely essential to clean out, if it's blocked by 5-10 percent, it will cause pressure problems and therefor contribute to even more pressure problems and rattle until failure. Good work. I hope it lasts longer this run! : )

Too bad that head won't bolt right on a Model A. That would be like 200 plus hp. Nice repair, 282,000 miles? wow, think about that.
