Anytime you have a backfire, these Holley carburetors have a tendency to blow out that diaphragm. Keep a couple of spares. You did eventually figure it out. Just in the wrong order. Any old-timer would tell you you do rear gears first, then the correct Cam and valve train with a big enough carburetor to feed it. Get your distributor spring advance and timing set then work out any bugs from there (exhaust, wheels and tires, etc).

What tall spindles did you go with? I'm running tall ball joints instead.

L&H Spindles. I don't think they are around anymore

Back when Hochkis introduced their A body set, the upper arms were straight and required the gen2 Camaro spindles. Vast improvement but have to keep with larger outer tie rods, brakes, etc. but again, don't think they're available anymore.

@@SS454LS6 I remember them. Been wanting the ATS/Speedtech spindles, however they are pricey. Tall ball joints are reasonable.

@@HTMR I like the ATS spindles too, only I believe they had a built in 2" drop. The L&H spindles had factory height. They also came with steering arms to reduce bump steer. Definitely not cheap compared to tall ball joints.
