THOSE ARE SOME NICE CLOCKS! Ihave about 8 or 9 admantine clocks all are different and unique, i recently made two 7ft shelves so i could display all of them all together they are impressive to look at and hear.
Sotheby's? Auction house? Be the expert on antiques road show? Smithsonian?super cool frugal dad! Museum quality collection for sure. Impressive, now i am wound up!
I think my favorite for look is the black one. I like the contrast. The marble one is unique. Love the face on it. The only thing is the marble is unsettling to me. I don't know why, it just is. The clock on top left had a nice sound. They are all beauties. Thanks for sharing.
This is a link to my eBay sales. Clocks have been selling well so I don't have many up right now: www.ebay.com/sch/the.clock.guy/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=
I have a mantle clock. Rooster head. It looks to maybe be German. It sits on my mantle and it works. I just oiled it today with a feather! About my cast iron clock. It has a gold face and it has a gold disk in the back, to get to the inter workings.
The thing is these clocks before 1900 were seen as part of the furniture the bigger the more ornate was a statement that you were well off as they featured in a room, not so much after 1900 clocks became practical and boring in my view.
Clock guy. How do you deal with antique clocks that have a large variability in escapement timing based on the winding tension of the spring? Tighter runs much faster than less tension. I have one that has a lot of variability.
Hi..have you ever come across a W. Duke and Sons mantel clock? Same style/time period as these. Duke gave them out in exchange for coupons from tobacco items. Thanks...great collection.
I was wondering if you have ever seen any clocks by Hyde & Goodrich with bronze statuettes? I have one with Galileo and a globe. My grandmother always called it "William Tell Clock"???? Not sure where she got that. She came from a very wealthy family in Arkansas so I imagine it is somewhat valuable but not really sure what I've got here.
To the best of my knowledge Hyde & Goodrich were importers of fine silver, china, clocks, etc. located in New Orleans. The clock manufacturer would put the importer's name on the clock face, similar to a Jeweler. The clock maker's name or trademark may be on the back of the brass movement. Can you send me some pictures of the clock and it's movement? I can help you identify and date it.duanedeppen@hotmail.com
Nice clocks. I have my grandmothers Ansonia Pompeii Mantle Clock do you have any suggestions on how to clean and make the black cast iron shine and reapply color to the scrolling?
Most of the pressed clocks were made from oak. The carved were walnut, rosewood, or darker woods. Can you send me a picture or post one somewhere I can look at it?
