Let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet; having had the time to think about it, I find that I may or may not have skipped over these steps a time or two, and without drawing too much attention to that fact, let's go over my technique for laying out and cutting the perfect scar joint. I'm going to break this down a bit, show the process a little differently, and as much as possible, do just that, show the process, I know many of you would like to hear me drone on about this for hours, and I could certainly do that, let's save it for another day, today I'm showing the process I use, it's not perfect, but it is perfect enough, If I don't ensure that this angle is spot on, when I begin CNC milling the rest of the neck I will incrementally lose tolerance and by the end be left with an ugly, misshapen, and nonfunctional mass of lumber. It seems simple and easy; it didn't start that way; I have struggled through many difficult and sloppy scarf joints in the past. As always, if you have any questions, I am more than happy to answer them in the comments below, happy to respond to your cheeky quips, and even happy to rebuff and rebuke the nasty and haphazardly authored snarky critiques, and as always, Thanks for Watching!
-Check out my website. I would be happy to make an unfinished guitar, bass, or any string instrument for you. The standard method to support what I do here, both as Ideas and projects that you will see on the channel. Do you have an idea that you think would look awesome in one of these videos? Let's make it! If you need a router template set to make your design, I make those too!

Thanks to Oak Studios for the music; I'm trying something different, and so far, I like it. Check them out, and let me know what you think of the music.

Great job communicating an involved operation with few words. Watching your videos has helped me to rethink and simplify my setups for for cnc operations that I’ll likely only do once. 👍

Great video! I haven’t attempted a CNC scarf joint. This video confirms that I over think things until paralysis sets in 😂. Do you have a video covering your cam process for a scarf jointed neck blank? Headstock first?

I have a few videos on this topic scattered throughout the channel; I guess I should put together a detailed video on the topic.

Is there an advantage to glueing the joint on the underside compared to the topside?

In short, no, Some like it up further in the neck so that the fretboard glue joint reinforces the scarf; I like to put the joint in the face of the peghead and use a veneer to cover the seam; it's easy to make the joint nearly invisible this way. I don't think I maters; it's really just personal preference.

Love your videos, what angle do you use when you make scarf joint? Like angle of headstock your trying to achieve?
@TwoCherriesIns

Usually 14 degrees, but I can do whatever the specification calls for

@@TwoCherriesIns hate to be such a fanboy here too. What kind of spindle are you using. I’d like to get into 1/2 inch myself but not sure where to start

It's just an ebay 2.2kw air cooled spindle, nothing fancy but it works well
