Dont wish to sound negative, but can i give you a little of advice. Your wasting time & energy on wanting to fit rear bumpers. Your quarter panel is going to need paint, so dont fit a bumper to end up with a mask line. Get it up & running & driving & square on its wheels which you have as good as done. Don`t paint anything at this stage. Get all the panels & test fit them doors wings etc. Then concentrate on roof damage & roof skin. Once its panelled up, get paint done. Then fit everything up once painted & not until. Golden rule from my experience is throw NOTHING out at all until the job is 100% finished.
This was my thoughts too when he said he was going to send the door out for paint. IMO, I thought it would be a better idea to send the full car all put together, to be painted.
He will be test fitting everything. This isn’t a final fix. The door will be painted on the inside, reveals and edges and the outside will be painted with the rest of the car
I'm glad to see this channel starting to blow up as it's well deserved. Great content & very informative, I've learned a few new things watching your previous builds. This car is going to be a beast when you're done with it!! All the best.
The LED module might just need recoding/reprogramming even though it's the original module that came with the car. You can get someone to do it for you remotely using ESYS and an ENET Coding cable OR some Autel/Snap on diagnostic tools have that ability too. If that doesn't work then I'd say go to an electronic repair shop and ask them if they could do a better job on the solder as even a hairline crack between the solder pads and legs can break the connection
Totally agree with this. All process soldering is lead-free these days and when re-flowing a surface-mount joint like this, running a flux pen over it and wetting it with a bit of leaded solder will really help it to flow. When the solder goes into balls like that, it's not flowing properly and you can still easily have a broken connection.
Great to see all your input in recovering this motor. Will be a bit of a leviathan to drive on normal roads.. Interesting to know if the guy who wrote it off with all the extra BHP added declared it to the insurers.
When soldering, even though most solder wire comes with flux already in the core, it is often much better to apply a light smear of additional flux paste from a tub of plumbers flux to the areas you want the solder to bond to...there after the solder just bonds pretty much instantly and negates the need to some times 'roast' the localised area with your soldering iron as you wait for the solder to bond where you want it. I have been using that technique for 30 or more years and swear by it.
Plumbers flux should not be used on electronics. Plumbers flux is water washable so is designed to be washed away when the water is turned on, it will corrode the wires.
Dean, what you’ve done to this car is amazing! Love your enthusiasm and Knowledge and how you’re keen to save a car from becoming a donor car, props to you! Can’t wait to see where the channel is this time next year :)
Hi Dean use some flux on the damaged solder joints and then just heat the joints with a iron or a soldering heat gun to reflow the joints. If you make mess you can clean the pads with solder brade dipped into the flux you just have put the solder brade onto the joint and heat the brade up.The brade will just soak up the solder.
I've always been into VAG cats but can't wait to see this beemwr done.. Really enjoyed this video. Only bad thing is that it ended. 🤷🏾♂️ Headlight most likely will need programming to work!
So close to 100k now Dean. She's coming along nicely. That first drive would have been an interesting one not knowing about the extra power and ending up in a ditch lol.
mate....try liquid solder for fiddly stuff. It's what they use on computer board repairs. Squeeze liquid solder from syringe onto the contacts and use a heat gun to get it to flow. It has built in flux so leaves a nice clean finish
630 bhp on a rear wheel drive beemer! Oooosh - its gonna fly, but definitely the wrong time of year to enjoy it with rain/slippery roads. Gonna be a beast once finished though I hope you can get back what you put into it as it might be a bit difficult to sell with the mods.. Keep it up Dean, great vid as always and look forward to the next one!
Great work Dean! Loving this build. Try with some of your transitions between speaking on camera to working on the car to have the music fade in. Great work mate, keep it up
Yes Dan I’ve been watching your channel for awhile and this car excites me of all the cars you’ve Had on the channel can’t wait to see the outcome keep the good work going
Awesome vide, this and the TVR are by far my best vehicles to date! Really excited to see how this progresses! :D Just to let people know that Beer52 *IS* cool, however its usually £27 a month, you cannot cancel on their website, you have to telephone them - and its an absolute pain in the backside to get hold of anyone and cancel your subscription...
Dean two things,I cringed when you took to roof off and left the seats and trim in,one spark or drop of a tool and you’d need new seats also when the car was all stripped I would pressure wash and get all dirt off around engine wheel arches etc not only will the work shop stay cleaner but the paint shop will thank you.
get some solder flux it will help the solder flow nice and make a good connection on that module as it looked like you hadnt used any thats why it doesnt look good
My experience with rebuilding and selling damaged cars is never throw away anything until the job is finished.find a place to pile it up, but do not discard any of it until you are done with that project.
Why 630 BHP jezzzz that car is going to take off. And I agree don't throw nothing away till the car is finished. And paintwork is always the last thing to do for sure. Take it easy with this motor. But what a beast..
Are you able to try the LED module that is working from the other side or are they coded, also don't fit any panels other than test fit as you want them painted the same time will help with the paint match.
Becareful because this f series modules need to be restarted with diagonistics most of the times to work. Light module block the voltage output when something happens in the module and then you need to restart it to work.
My god that car is gonna be a beast dean. Glad it's all going well. Think your re-sale price has just gone up abit. Can't wait to see the first drive. Make sure the man nappies are on! 💩 🤣🤣
Oh man, I can't begin to express how much I hate de-cat and ECU tuning. I had an absolute crap of a time getting my second hand car back to stock/road legal from DPF removal/stage1 chip tuning. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
As much as I'm massive petrol head and love to tinker under the bonnet of cars.. I've gotta hand it to you.. I wouldn't know where to start given a car in that condition.. and to be doing it all alone as well.. hats off to you for not chucking in the towel.. 👏 🙌 👍 After all this labour you've put into this vehicle it would be a shame to sell it.. as you know now it's not just a stock M2 Competition. Nevertheless.. loving all your videos and the piece by piece detailing on what's going on.. Keep it 👍 👌
Thank you mate, I know sometimes it feels like not a lot happens in a video, but I try to keep it realistic. That still took 4 days to film as I had to keep ordering parts I didn’t know I needed.
@@SavingSalvage It doesn't come across like it took 4 days.. the way it's edited and put together it looks like one day's work.. Nevertheless.. Good content.. cars that people identify with.. keep it up.. 👍 👌
So a really, really fast tuned car with a not so tuned driver? Stage 1 Evolve tuned my F80 M3 Comp and it’s a tricky drive at times compared to previous tuned Impreza’s
Well, that’s good news. You may remember I was a bit worried about all your skill not making a profit. The extra horsepower and the expensive modifications will guarantee you a profit 😀
I wonder if the PO had the same issue that Clarkson had when driving some new BMW 10 or so years ago? An extra 200bhp will certainly make it quite the animal 👍
@@SavingSalvage oh yes sorry , maybe it shorted and blew a component ? Soldering looked all good use a multimeter to check for contacts etc..Or wait.. it needs reprogramming haha
Is it the ultimate driving machine because it's the last one you'll drive? 400bhp to 600+bhp in such a small car overkill in more ways than one. still a nice car
I'd take BHP increase claims with a huge pinch of salt, until you get it on a dyno, should you wish. It's coming on nicely though, as always, a credit to you.
Great work Dean, it's coming together nicely, I find it so satisfying when you get all the niggley bits and pieces done 😷, the next video should be great when you get to fit the fest of the front end 👏👏
Are highly modified cars easier to sell than standard ones? If one does track days I can kind of see the attraction but it must be very expensive to get them insured for road use unless the insurers are not told of the mods and that of course comes with a risk of cover being voided. Such cars may be worth more to their owners but do the mods limit the market for them?
It certainly makes them stand out to people who would want to otherwise tune a standard car, as I think to get it to where it is tune wise is the best part of £5-6k
