I'm a medium olive and most of these colors have my heart! Also, I think our eye color is really similar because I too pop in olive and bronzey shades. Beautiful video as always! Love. ❤️
Ooh also, I've always been extremely confused about my undertone, because there are some warm shades that really make me pop, and others that do nothing for me (lots of compliments on my skin when I'm in mustards, reds, olives), and some cool shades that I also receive compliments on my skin when wearing (lavender, periwinkle, soft pinks, mauves). I even posted on a couple of different forums to see if others saw something I didn't, and I got a mixed bag of "you're definitely warm and cool tones make you grey" to "you're definitely cool toned" 🤣
This sounds like my experience. It took me a ridiculous amount of time to learn about the middle option called neutral. For me, I’ve learned that what I’m wearing, how pale or tan my skin is, time of year (e.g. strength and quality of sunlight vs cold & cloudy atmosphere) and various other things affect how I “pull” when it comes to certain makeup tones. I’ve kind of settled into approximately 5 different make up combinations that I cycle through depending on the day and circumstances and I’m still a work in progress with this stuff. I’d say just start making note of what works and backtrack to sort out the factors that made that look a win, then experiment with options when those factors repeat themselves until you’ve found the recipe that’s easy to whip out for those circumstances. Good luck and try to have fun with it (believe me, I know the frustration involved!)
@@fiveandfour yeah for sure! Gotta embrace the neutral :) I wish color analysis folks would bring neutral back in, because every single person has a different opinion about what undertone I am and why 🤣 it would be super lovely if people were allowed to be in the "neutral area"
I highly encourage you to see a local color draping expert so you can see exactly how each shade effects you skin undertones (not just how the colors look with your hair and eyes too). This will give you more discernment on your exact WOW colors and colors you can get away with. Neutral, warm or cool....we all have our WOW colors and it’s so valuable to see exactly what that are 🙌🏻
Hi dear Elyssa, this was a fun video..the only eye make up i have tried is black liner for definition on both upper and lower lids...and boy I look so run down when I dont wear them..Is it a Theatrical romantic thing...however I am now trying to switch to brown color..ans try other colors too I loved your cute and well curated collection..you made it sound so simple I loved the pallets you showed..very soft autumn colors... I get so confused with the make up tutorials for eye makeup..and everybody doin the false eyelash thing. Also leading that brows matter as well...lots of love 🤗
I would highly recommend Lisa Eldridge for makeup inspiration! She’s a professional makeup artist who’s incredible at looks that are fresh and simple, but are still unique 😊 Good luck!
Thank you and I’m glad you enjoyed the video💖 I definitely encourage you to check out Shelby Wilson, Lisa Eldridge and Wayne Goss for some fuss-free eye makeup tutorials ✨
You are my number one beauty adviser/influencer. Your approach has really helped me understand how to embrace and dwell wholly in my aesthetic, FLAMBOYANT gamine, rather than mourning the unsuitability of the velvets and brocades that I love. Thank you, dear.
This was so fun, lovely! Thank you for sharing 🌸💕 I have to be so careful when choosing my warm eyeshadows - they have to be very muted otherwise they look strange Xx
Yeah I definitely can’t do anything too dramatic or highly saturated or I look very heavy.....but metallic and shades with a sheen are very complimentary to my rounded features. Oh and I looooovveee the simple wing/cat eye on you....it compliments your dramatic facial bone structure so well 😍
@@elyssa_aesthetic Love those beautiful metallic shades on you so much. I feel like we would have so much fun playing dress ups together 😂 And thank you!! 💕 My little winged liner look has become my everyday go-to, and it feels really good. Every time I put it on it reminds me of the beautiful body type family I belong to, kind of like a tribal marking of sorts - helps me just feel really happy in my own skin. Xx
I am a flamboyant natural / soft autumn and I want to incorporate the ocean into my wardrobe (the ocean is my muse in a way. I want to go for an ethereal look) But I don't know how to do that. Does anyone have any tips? :) Btw you look exquisite!
I love this! I would make a Pinterest board of all the things that inspire you and align with your personal essence/body harmony 😊 I think Elyssa actually has a video about that! Things that are coming to my mind that might work for you are baroque pearl jewelry, Ancient Greek inspired wrap dresses would be beautiful (Birth of Venus esque.) You could also go for a slight nod to pirates with some billowy ivory blouses and colorful bandanas/scarves. I actually would love to see how this all turns out for you! Good luck 😊
So as a soft autumn I’d suggest staying away from really cool, icy colors and opt for the softer, muted colors in your pallet. When I’m working with a muse I like to reflect on all the aspects/details of the muse. So when I think of the ocean I think of fluid movement, a particular weightlessness, warm sand and reflectiveness. So the short answer is: as a FN SA I would stay away from the really cool toned blues and stick with warmer light greens (think really light sage green) and warm sand colors with a drape that is soft and fluid. Opt for prints which have a blended quality and play around with hints of elongated reflective details (jewelry, tinsel, etc.). Honestly, take a look at Paris Hilton in some of her looks which aren’t stripper chic. I’m working on my ethereal video and (spoiler alert) Paris Hilton definitely has some ethereal essence and can be spotted in some pretty stunning looks when she leans into her ethereal beauty ✨
I was naturally attracted to cool tones for a very long time! But once you see the difference and how your natural beauty really shines in the right colors it’s such a game changer. And of course, warmer undertones can still wear certain cool tones, but I personally feel that it should be done very strategically to maintain complimentary harmony. Overall, the right tones of makeup are what make you look that much more effortless ✨
Same. I bought a cool toned eyeshadow pallet because I was convinced I was cool toned. I only use the the two warmest shades on the pallet because I look ill in the rest. Realized too late that I am warm and delicate.
Elyssa, do you wear a PRIMER on your lids? I also have oily lids, and couldn’t figure out how to prevent my eyeshadow from creasing after just 2 - 3 hrs into wearing it. I used to watch makeup channels for about 1 1/2 yrs, and that’s where I learned about PRIMER. OMG…game-changer! I’m always looking for DIY alternatives, so I actually just mix a bit of Vaseline & Curel lotion together on the back of my hand, then rub it onto my lids. The glycerin in the lotion is what prevents the makeup from budging (I think…). The reason why I mix the lotion w/ Vaseline is because when it’s ONLY Curel, you can’t blend the eyeshadow. Whatever’s applied on top of the lotion won’t budge, so it’s only good if you want a crisp & precise application of something. Otherwise, you have to clean your skin again (w/ some kind of soapy cleaner or wipe off w/ oil) before trying to blend the shadow.
Very fair - check, warm undertone - check, hooded eyes - check, oily lids - check! Um, this video is perfect for me! Thanks for the insights :) I recently discovered Sydney Grace powder eyeshadows; they're great quality and stay on my lids really nicely. They have some gorgeous metallics, including a rose gold. :) I tend to stick in the brown range, mostly neutral to warm. I have lighter eyes, so I do like to mix in a some coppery colors to make them stand out more.
Pale, warm chicks unite! 🙌🏻 I’ve heard amazing things about Sydney Grace! I was so close to buying the pallet Mel T did with them, but I didn’t feel like I’d use all the colors.....so I do have my eye on a few singles but have been trying to use what I have before accumulating more....plus I tend to just buy more and more rose golds, pinks and coppers 🙈😆
Loved the video....I am cool toned but I never thought about an eye shadow collection...to fun!! I have been so excited about my wardrobe since I consulted with you on my Yin & Yang balance ... my hair is a little longer and softer, and I have been working on a more blended look when I put outfits together...best money I have spent in a long while...thank you so much!!!! P.S. also got rid of the colors that made me either look pale or like a giant pumpkin...
Try using one of the matte liquid or cream shadows that dries down as an eyeshadow base/primer. If you can find one in your skintone that would be perfect 👍
1000% that’s exactly how I use it and it works like a charm! 🙌🏻 But they don’t have one that’s fair enough for my skin tone ☹️ The hunt continues though ✨
I'm a makeup enthusiast and have a *ton* of makeup 🤣 definitely not a minimalist or curated there. I'm a huge fan of indie single eyeshadows! I'm not a big palette girl bc I do so many one- or multi-shadow, very sparkly, multidimensional/multichromatic looks, and I like very specific tones. I'd be a SN in Kibbe categorization, so my makeup style is the total opposite of what most would recommend, but it's my self expression and I love it immensely. Someone posted that sparkles, bright colors, and detail work look bad on all SNs and I was about to fight LOL.
Hello Elyssa thanks for the video ❤️ you look absolutely amazing I'm very fair to i think I'm a warm undertone but I have a very black hair ! Even though I'm not Asian sometimes I think I have a cool undertone because of my black hair
So when it comes to finding your true undertone it’s best to cover your hair and just look at the effect different colored fabrics have against your complexion. If you have warm undertones very cool colors like black and icy light blue will tend to create a clinical, washed out effect. And warm colors have an evening out effect and could brighten the face in a complimentary way. So hair color alone isn’t the best benchmark when you’re trying to find your true undertones.
There is definitely a niche for a darker skinned woman to create content in this area. I’m a mixed raced, cool toned, athletic, flamboyant gamine and have had to look diligently inspiration. Maybe you could be the one to fill this role.
@@myrtle1234 you’re absolutely right. I’m also a cool toned flamboyant gamine. I’ll have to educate myself more on my type and other types in order to create content on this though. It’ll be kind of harder since kibbe doesn’t use a lot of black women as examples himself lol
You 1000% do 💖💖💖💖 I no longer reference Kibbe’s system. So, since I use my own approach I’m able to showcase a wider range of women, including more woc 💛 So all my recent videos have a diverse range of women. I also show my personal clients so it’s not all just celebrities.
Nyx HD eye primer in the tube, not the pot, literally makes EVERY eyeshadow behave under my hooded eyes. Nothing else makes ANY eyeshadow behave. If they discontinue it I literally will not be able to wear eyeshadow any more.
Would you say you’re warm and delicate? That is probably what American Style’s color analysis would be for you 😊 I’ve been loving your videos and I would love to see more soft gamine style recommendations/walkthroughs since you’re a soft gamine yourself (if I’m remembering correctly!) And as a fellow hooded eye gal the makeup recommendations are 👌🏻
Hmmm I have not heard of American Style for color analysis but will definitely look into it ✨ But yeah, warm and delicate seems to be a pretty fitting description. Ah yes....so I no longer associate with the Kibbe archetypes (you remember correctly though....I used to identify as a SG). BUT I will be showcasing more of my style very very soon and will give more insight in an upcoming video.
@@elyssa_aesthetic Whoops! Autocorrect did me dirty! I meant to say Merriam Style hahaha And I’d be interested to know what led you away from Kibbe exactly! Keep up the great work as always!
I have fair skin with kind of a bit "reddish" look to it when not with m/u.. How do I fid out what my undertone is??🙏🙂 P s when are you uploading more videos?? Missed them/ it/ you 😊😊🙏 Tami
Hi Simona💛 I’ll be back very soon! I’ve been serving clients and working on some things on the back end. Thank you so so much for your support and see you soon!!! 💛💛💛
Nice! We utilize a lot of the same colors-I just tend to go more ham and pull in punchier colors, too, lol. But I recently got the ABH Sultry palette and I adore it. I’m more neutral with a hint of warmth and I love the simpler, yin-ish looks I create with it. #sparklefiend Will have to also save this video as an oily girl with hooded lids. Thanks for sharing!
Oh I heard great things about that pallet! Yeah I tend to look better with softer looks over punchy looks.....I like to add a punch of color with blush or my lip color (but even those still error of the side of “safe” 🙈)
Color can be quite complex, but when it comes to simply finding your true undertone it’s best to cover your hair and just look at the effect different colored fabrics have against your complexion. If you have warm undertones very cool colors like black and icy light blue will tend to create a clinical, washed out effect. And warm colors have an evening out effect and could brighten the face in a complimentary way. If you have cool undertones warm colors will bring out the purple in your under eyes or can make you look sickly (there are other effects which can be created but this gives you a general idea). But cool colors will have a brightening and uplifting effect. I would definitely recommend investing in an in-person color draping to really see the effects if you’re having a hard time seeing it yourself at home in natural sunlight. 👍🏻
Hey girl!!! How you been?!?! It 100% can be! A lot of people assume I’m cool toned (winter) because I’m so pale and my natural hair color is quite dark. But I’m most definitely warm lol BUT....I have noticed that I can get away with burgundy and emerald green because of my natural depth and contrast brought in by my hair and eyes against my complexion. But if we’re taking straight undertones here....my skin definitely looks it’s best in warm colors ✨
@@elyssa_aesthetic color is so so fun and interesting!! Yeah.... I’ve been told that because my hair is “dishwater” blonde 🙄... had quite a few bad cool toned hair dye experiences 😬🤣
