I remember the good old days in Melbourne, when you could travel on trams every day for months without getting abused. This is my second dose in Feb...
Courtesy of our lovely politicians living in gated communities or driven around in private limos, who don't have to deal with them. I've seen people get in more trouble for defending themselves while being attacked by these psychos. This is relatively tame, I've even seen them attempt to attack kids in prams and women too.
I had to have a Panadol and a xxxx and a sit down over the lack of c u n t in the convo and how he didn’t change the tone when he said mate as he got more angry
People used to speak up all the time decades ago, that's why others would have shame and think twice before doing something wrong in public. But not anymore. Thanks to this fine gentleman for speaking up and do the right thing. Salute!
Thats not why people no longer speak up. They no longer speak up because half these deros are crackheads who will attack the vulnerable without a second thought, and half the time if you defend yourself you end up being the one who gets charged. "oh he has mental health issues" as an example.
@@multitablez7825 that's true, but how many times can you merely "put your head in the sand" and do nothing? - it gets tedious......I've tried keeping quiet but my conscience got the better of me.....I can't do it on a long term basis.
@@DeeDee-tx8ll I see you don't care if people have health problems. You'd be more than happy to smoke around them while pretending to be tough, just like you do online?
@@mjchicagoland2314 I wish that other people like these smokers learnt some real self respect then they could truely appreciate the possible needs of others perhaps a person or child with respiratory issues might need to go on that form of transport, and although the smoke might not cause major issues for the majority if they had real self respect they wouldn't put their wants before others possible needs. Yeah the guns over there must make things a bit more dicey in terms of confronting them. Best wishes mate.
This makes my blood boil. My fiance has severe asthma and requires public transport to get to work and university in Melbourne. The amount of times she's had to get off the tram to save herself from people is immeasurable. She's been late to work and class on numerous occasions because of this, and has even lost a job because of her health and lateness. And no, there's nothing a Dr can do about it. There is no cure. There's just brave people like Bill here standing up for what's right. Thank you.
Good story mate, you do realise you cannot live in any houses built after 2000s due to hebel having fine particle that will severely asthma. If she’s really as bad as you said, then she should’ve died a long time ago. Grow up snow flake.
@@mdkcynic Haha I literally do. May the 23rd was our one year anniversary. She has Lyme disease, central sensitivities and severe asthma to name a few.
Well done for speaking up. I was on a Melbourne train once and I had someone obviously high on drugs sit next to me and I didnt have the nerve to speak up.
If you think someone is high on an amphetamine or something it's safest not to speak up. Unless they're in the act of smoking shard or something. If they just appear high, don't talk to them, don't even look at them. Meth and other stimulants of abuse can cause a person to mood swing rapidly and become extremely aggressive over nothing, you don't wanna set them off. It can also cause them to become absolute super soldiers, watch body cams of cops trying to take down scrawny older women who are flipping out on meth, it often takes several fit police officers just to get one scrawny methhead to the ground. They're seriously dangerous and it doesn't matter if you're a jacked body builder or even a champion MMA fighter, they seem to not feel pain or fear and the meth makes them unstoppable even to their own detriment, they're like zombies or something, if they're intravenous drug users they could be carrying all kinds of blood diseases that you don't want as well. It's unfortunate but just look straight ahead or find a chance to change seats or something. You don't wanna mess with those people.
@@Ghost-fe1vp Possibly, but I also live in a major city and have found Melbourne to be worse. In my experience Melbourners have a general attitude (and this is the norm, not the rule) of “you can’t tell me what to do it’s my choice”, which was well exemplified by the COVID protests. Melbourne seems to have its own culture stronger than a lot of other places in Australia.
@@carrott36 Not possible most definite. Melbourne would of had the highest uptake for the shot. It's got the most 'woke lgbt etc' people in the nation what are you on about? You sound like your implying the opposite. You literally should NOT be able to tell others what to do or how to live. Melbourne had more crazies than the rest of Australia not the least. Melbourne sucks because of it's people and their craziness.
Damn, most people are to afraid to speak up, this lad legit stepped up and put him in his place right away. Smoking is bad. I can tell because my dad smokes and he isn't the best because if it. We try to get him off of it but it never works, too addicting and just, don't do it. I wouldnt
That award was for 2024. Melbourne is the worlds most liveable city. It has a better income/cost of living ratio than New York, London or Dubai. I don't live in Melbourne.
@@mshara1 If you DID live in Melbourne you would know it is NOT the worlds most livable city ....in fact it probably never was. Sure there are worse, but it's far from the best ....
From my experience, there’s a general culture in Melbourne of “don’t tell me what to do, my choices are my choices.” I can’t say I think that’s the right thing at all.
If you use public transport outside of morning and afternoon commutes, the percentage of losers increases exponentially. I haven't taken a bus or train for 10 years.
@@planetdisco4821 Its Port Melbourne "this stop Graham street" on the tram internal display. The tram is on Victoria Ave the commission tower at 148 Victoria Ave. Graham St runs off this
Best idea not to say anything or get thumped. The drivers and other staff are usually aware.. Having said that I dispute that this is a daily occurrence. I rely on the trains, buses and trams and the whole time I have seen just two people in 40 years light up cigarettes..
Wish it was like that up here in Brisbane. I've seen on around 9 or 10 occasions in the last 6 years where people light up on trains, and a bus, up here.
I agree. If I was a 6ft strong man then yeah I would say something, but I'm a woman and I'll rather not say anything in case people like this try to hurt me
I remember when people would’ve said “Put it out dopey!” And if he got lippy would’ve just have him a hiding and it would’ve been over, people are soft now
The Driver DGAF! They don’t want to risk their lives for a confrontation. Also, why would you risk being murdered over someone smoking? Pick your battles and it limits your chances of being stabbed.
The driver does care. It is illegal to smoke aboard public transport. The fact that maybe this guy was in danger, increases the bravery of his standing up. I also believe these trams have CCTV, so chances of assault are very slim.
@@carrott36 He wore a mask, if it can protect from covid, it could protect from smoke right...? Guy wasn't in danger, if he perhaps went to lay a finger on him..different story
@@KyleBaconWhy should others have to accommodate other entitled people who can't behave? What's so difficult to just act like an adult in public space? If you don't like it because you can't smoke on it then don't use it.
I am a 15 year old from Australia in makes me sad to see this sort of stuff. I have a close family member who lives with me this family member is 20 odd years old. This family member does stuff like this. I wish everyone was kind and honest and stood for what was right.
As a resident of Geelong, I 100% agree. Most of the druggies and vapists are all underage. Im honestly sick of it. Geelong is running derelict because of its youth, and if we don't throw everyone in juvenile hall right now, Geelong will never go back to the quaint spa city it used to be.
People like that smoker need some real help to get their mind right. Respect to the guy taking action. We need more people like you also here in Finland!
No respect . No accountability. No discipline. That's modern day life, seemingly, everywhere! Good for that bloke. Very brave. As you don't know what that idiot smoking is capable of.
I was on my local bus when I caught the teenagers still wearing their school uniform vaping, I told them that they're not allowed to vape on the bus. Luckily for me they weren't abusive but they did stop vaping on the bus.
I go through this every day on the 86 line worst times foe me are Wed to Fri nights,.The worst times are when a bunch of Uni students ( LaTrobe) get on. Would I consider driving? I could make a fun feature film a about the types of people who ride the trams, so could the drivers.
It is not very nice to live in Melbourne I recently got t- boned by a car that did not stop at a stop sign! I am just in the process of trying to get compensated I guess maybe things will get better.
As I understand it, there’s a general attitude of “don’t tell me what to do, my choices are my choices.” The constant smoking, COVID protests and as you’ve described are all partly because of this.
@@carrott36 I agree with your sentiment. I think the problem is that the plebiscite's have nearly created there own class and a lot of us are left to listen!
Let's be critical here. Some might think (including myself) that old mate should mind his own business and while that's a good way to avoid abuse, remember that some people have lung issues. There was a time where you could smoke pretty much anywhere because no one knew the dangers of 2nd hand smoke.
I understand your point, calling out bad behaviour should be more frequent and normalised, but pick your battles carefully. The smoker in the video seems like he isn't mentally stable, and the dude recording was lucky he just got a verbal lashing. What if he had a knife or decided to get physical? I would rather bite my tongue and just hope the smoker doesnt do anything. Not because i dont have a spine, but because i dont want to risk becoming morning news.
I was in Melbourne on a tram with my 80 yo mother last year and a young "new Australian" man was very lucky not to approach us. Another passenger taught him some manners first. My family has lived in Melbourne for over 150 years, and I just won't tolerate any anti social behavior around me when I'm there.
@@wolfgangvonuce9803grow up. It’s 2024 modern day Australia and you’re still going on about a time none of us existed in. Australia has been Australia for a long time now. And white Aussies and indigenous Aussies are both Aussies born here and sharing Australia like grown mature adults not selfish toddlers. None are more entitled than the other. White Aussies live here and this is our home. And we don’t deserve that nonsense attitude. Get used to it and move on.
When there was a conductor on every tram this would have been dealt with immediately by him/her. That person would have been put off the tram immediately.
What a tool. Since I moved to a town outside Melbourne 25 years ago, I have rarely used trams or trains in Melbourne. Is this a typical example of what I might be treated to if I rode the trams and trains again?
Ok, if the drivers are aware of these situations and that driver must have been, why don’t they call security and have them waiting ahead? We should not adapt to situations like this as before you know it, it becomes the norm. Well done for speaking up, we need more citizens like yourself who give a damn about the world around them👍
I more than understand that you’re doing the right thing but it is best to keep quiet and just tell the tram driver, safer thing to do, lots of respect to you tho bro
My grandfather once told me that the best form of business is to mind your own business. Word of advise people, don't interact with such people, you may have to physically defend yourself and maybe then charged with assault. It's not worth it. Let it go.
@@konkombotis5549Well considering that your main comment is 3 days old and his reply would’ve only been an hour old at most before you responded to him I don’t think there’s exactly any chance that many people would’ve liked his reply, or seen it to begin with
@@ChristopherWallbank-di9hjNo, he wants people to stand up and not sit idly by when people do shameful stuff like this in public. If you have to defend yourself, so be it. But he never said anything about intentionally starting fights with these people
It happens everywhere around Melbourne either buses, trains and clearly now trams, like I'm a trainspotter so I carry expensive camera gear around and I left my zipper open on the bag of a bus and this crackhead just straight up said "stop taking photos of me" "I'm going to take your camera" "do you wanna swap my bag for yours and then he goes "give me your f#&king camera c#@t" after that then he started asking personal questions about my name, where I live do I live alone and that point I had to get off and get off fast I didn't wanna hang around for the end result.
When that plastic gangster stepped off the tram is when the next car on its destination should be the only time to disobey the tram passenger exiting give way law .
Smoking kills, mate. Not just you, but those around you too. And, the mate filming is being quite respectful about it, especially in comparison to the smoker.
It seems almost every time I get on a tram in the CBD, there's a bloke at one end, babbling & swearing to himself. Last year, I got on a tram in Collins St & there was a girl, wrapped in a blanket, taking up a whole seat & I asked if she could move over, so I could sit down. She yelled at me: "You know I'm naked, leave me alone!", before leaping up & moving off down the aisle. As she walked away, it was obvious that she was, indeed, naked under the blanket...
@@billthompson4871Might I suggest putting a bit of anti-smoking background info at the start or end of these things, because far too many people in these comments think smoking is a harmless bit of fun to relieve stress 👍
If he had a brain, he would not have said a word. I drove buses for 21 years around the east and south eastern suburbs of Sydney. 3 months into the job, I learned the hard way, should've not said a word. You never know how people are going to react.
thats what i'm thinking... all these people praising the guy in the comments but like would you rather inhale a bit of smoke or inhale your own blood and teeth

I admire your courage for speaking up to these disgraceful individuals, but please do be careful. Many of these people get violent with little provocation, so please look after your own safety (not that you should have to be dealing with that guy, the Tram driver should’ve called security or the police).
