I love this. I love furniture with a story - I have a lot of furniture inherited from my mum and grandma including pieces that used to live in my grandpa's music room. You mentioned whether people still have china - one of the things that I am custodian of is a tea service my grandma collected in the 1920s or 1930s - you paid a little bit every week towards the cost of a teacup, saucer or tea-plate which eventually built up into the whole collection. This lives in a china cabinet in my flat, together with a set of glasses bought when I was born in 1960 which have always been known as my christening glasses.
That was a very nice story! I have a secretary desk that I cannot put a computer or laptop on. I love that desk very much and it also has a roll down cover. I wish I had a China cabinet on my top piece, that would be beautiful! Thank you Janet ❤
It's nice that you and your wife have the desk story and the person behind it alive and well. It will be nice for your kids in case one of them wants the desk. I hope that analog continues to come back. I used to write lots of letters (individual and sometimes mass updates) to friends and family where I would go to the post office to copy and mail out. The lost art of letter writing and using snail mail has definitely gone away. I love email and unlimited data on my phone but there is a specialness to getting a hand written letter in the mail. I don't even know the addresses of some of my friends! Here in the states kids aren't being taught cursive anymore in school which makes me sad. There is something lovely about being able to "write cursive" and it's quicker! I wonder if there will be a whole generation moving forward that won't be able to read hand written letters. 😢
