My Dinner with Hervé (2018) - scene comparisons 

Those establishing shots to match the Fantasy Island sequence are really incredible, wow.

Actually Peter Dinklage is an executive producer of this film. He fought to get this film made. He did a great job. Lou Diamond Phillips looked nothing like Ritchie Valens in La Bamba but did a great job. Boils down if can they pull it off

Peter Dinklage is a really wonderful actor, but casting him to portray Hervé Villechaize is ridiculous. It's like casting Saoirse Ronan to play Lucile Ball because they both have red hair.

Andy Garcia is no Ricardo Montalban, but he tries his best. You can see it a little bit. This screams a labor of love that this even exists.

I think Peter Dinklage, the executive producer of this film, should've casted Sam Humphrey for the part of Hervé Villachaize. Just give him the wig and he'll look just like real Hervé.

This movie was such a great love letter and thank you to Hervé - I loved it so much!

👍Andy Garcia was the perfect choice for this movie, he has an amazing resemblance to Ricardo Montalban, but Dinklage on the other hand, has a manly and completely different shape of face, compared to Hervé little boy's face.

They should have hired Daniel Craig to play Roger Moore playing Bond.

It is downright CRIMINAL for them NOT to have included Herve's role in Forbidden Zone and his romance with Susan Tyrell. He literally played the best short king EVER in that film, and was said to have been having an absolute blast in his only starring role -- yet they never acknowledged it here.

I must say, I look forward to seeing your _Bohemian Rhapsody_ scene comparisons, especially the Live Aid concert scene.

Andy Garcia can in fact look like Ricardo Montalban, but man… either he’s a little dry on his Rourke performance, or Ricardo had such a flexible demeanor. It’s like if he could speak with this face and his body just in that comparison alone

Special surgery would improve lung breathing at night by allowing him to sleep at night without breath without feeling agonized by breathlessness. If he waited and had someone to defend him by preventing the con artists from stealing his money (preventing him from getting poor) from him, he would have money in the future to do the surgery that cost millions that health insurance didn't cover at the time. In fact who killed him was the thieves and con artists who exploited his naivete. They stole all his money and left him in misery without medical and hospital and surgical assistance. I just watched it, i dont know much about the fantasy island but i knew ricardo montalbán, just enough to get interested in this movie and i can tell you that it was a great surprise! You get moved by herve, lets you see things a different way, 100% recomended movie!

I guess Peter Dinkleburg on the plus side resembles Herve in certain scenes, BUT the problem is the voice is off, he’s a bit on the tall side, and they ESPECIALLY messed up on this Fantasy Island scene, he looked a lot like him until that scene, like someone completely different but not Herve, his hair and everything was all wrong… It’s weird because it’s like they changed directors or something as he resembled him until that scene.. Was it because they couldn’t get the rights to resemble him as Tatoo’s character or something? It odd to as the Mr. Rouke actor resembled the original really close… I refuse to watch this movie other than this scene because it feels to serious and everything and honestly I think half that stuff they predict and said Herve did off set and off screen is probably not even true, yeah, he shouldn’t of done what he did in the end, but other than that, from what I seen in interviews and footage and stuff he seemed sweet and funny, I ESPECIALLY loved that one song he did in 1980, it’s “Love The World”, and he seemed to be really enjoying himself in that video (it’s on here), but yeah, this side of him on TV and everything it could just of been acting, it could be not, we’ll never know the true story how he really was, but it’s kinda hard to see him from what those other negative sources say and this movie predicts and shows when there’s the actual good stuff of him from stuff like that, when there’s no actual proof of him actually being a different way and we don’t even know if it’s actually true or not, mostly these documentaries are fictional anyways portraying actors and are never really approved by the families of them because of how inaccurate, but it’s sad people will probably never see his sweet side from FI and other stuff besides that he was in and when he was on TV In footages because of those rumors and everything on the internet and stuff like this… As I said though we don’t really know… All of it could be true, all of it could not, but as I said 90% of the negative stuff of celebrities like this off screen are usually just made up for views to what Hollywood seen them as and not from the people that knew them… Blonde (that Marilyn Monroe movie was very inaccurate), the Freddy Mercury movie in places, and others, most of these documentaries make them out to be different anyways because it’s a movie…

Yeah, of course these newer actors wil never be like the originals, but at least they somewhat look a bit similar and the shots were close, I do agree though they could of done a bit better with making Peter resemble Herve as Tatoo a bit better or get someone who resembles Herve a bit better (for this part at least), I think Mathew Moy would of been perfect as him, I think he resembles him a bit more and he does a voice really close to Herve’s Tatoo voice in 2 Broke girls as Han. :) (The character I think in a way from that is similar to Tatoo as well, missed opportunity, but Peter did great for this too. :) But yeah, biopics lately I do admit are pretty lazy with getting the right actors that actually look and sound like the person, (this, Judy 2019, (The actress somewhat looked the part, (I think they made her look a bit too old for Judy), but didn’t sound anything like Judy singing, (The actress playing young Judy was a bit off too and really didn’t resemble her as good either, Me And My Shadows 2001 one was alot better with the actresses resembling Judy), The new Elvis Biopic, Austin Butler really looks nothing like Elvis, but he dances and does his voice really well, etc. I think in the future though because of Deepfake, who knows, they might use it in ways for stuff like this for it to resemble the original actor with their faces and everything… (It would probably be better too…)

Not chance of this remake even coming close to the magic of the original.. aside from the ridiculous distinct similarities of the actors ..this is the reason they don’t remake or sequel real tv other then comic books.. it just does not work.. Can you I imagine Hawaii Five-0 without Steve McGarrett or Gilligan‘s Island without the original cast .. or Columbo without Peter Falk…

This movie looks a little stupid

While I certainly agree that Mr.Dinklage does not resemble Monsieur Villechaize in any way, they do not even share the same form of dwarfism, Hollywood has a history of using the popular actor of the day to portray famous persons even when they are entirely unsuitable. I could make a list, but we would be here indefinitely. Thirty years ago this role would have been offered to David Rappaport who would have also been the wrong, and sadly ironic, choice. I am an admirer of Mr.Dinklage, but I will not see this film. I do not enjoy biopics.
