I've heard a different version where he adds a stanza that goes something like "My dream girl dont exist, she works at a mcdonalds in madison wisconsin. She was cool but she let the system get to her, one day she gave up on art and just made hamburgers"
That's because we're all depressed f*cks/loners that are thinking about love and thus in deep despair and anguish. Personally, I'm too unenthusiastic and miserable to be angry.
how can people call a 4 chord pattern a rip off???? This was written before "when I walk around"...who on earth expects Jeff Magnum copying Green day??? This guy has better things to listen to than dookie!!!!
I love this band so much, but it's probably not a good idea to listen to them when you're feeling sad. It just makes you more sad... but in a good way. A good kind of sad. Weird.
Three Peaches in particular can leave you feeling like shit. This songs lyrics are just amazing though. Got to be one the coolest opening two lines of any song.
The artist is Evariste-Vital Luminais , the painting is Les fils de Clovis II which translates as The sons of Clovis II. it has been run through a reddish filter though.
The Sons of Clovis II" by Évariste Vital Luminais, in the painting the two teenage boys had their tendons cut, (hence the bandages) and were sent down the river on a barge to their fate
ease your petty concerns music will always be music regardless of what chords whomever plays whenever & however it happens thank you neutral milk hotel for your fantastic works
Jeff Mangum mostly wrote in the aeroplane over the sea about world war 2 and to some degree anne frank, and lots of people joke that he's in love with her.
perhaps he's called ian? 5 years ago a street musician named ian showed me nmh. he sang in the aeroplane over the sea for me,telling me he would have loved to hear me singing that song too. so i did. then 3 years later i saw him lifting a bike while running all around...with this japanese guy. anyway i often sing in the aeroplane over the sea since that day.
The first known appearance of it is on a demo from 1991. This version here is from 1996 - you can check the band's website, which has a song index. I'm actually surprised at that too - I thought he'd written the material for Aeroplane much later.
In my opinion its pretty idiotic says that these chords are ripped off another song or that another song ripped off these chords because a lot of songs use similar chord patterns (particularly I, V, VI, IV like this), but that doesn't mean its a rip off... if the melody was the same it'd be a ripoff
Are you 100% that this track was recorded in 1991? I ask because of the Track's ending obviously leading into a Track I'm sure we all here love on the Over the Sea Lp. Thank you.
Given that that is the true title of the Painting, why is it that the above comment regarding the title is so emphatically stated? Is there reason to believe the work had some other title? Thank you for the time, regardless as to whether you know the answer.
First of all, he didn't rip it off, he wrote this song a couple years before "Dookie" came out. Second, part of his whole schtick is having that sort of loud, mediocre voice. Third, this chord progression is extremely common. You know that "Axis of Awesome 4 Chords" video? That's these exact four chords - I V vi IV.
I would say a lot of the songs flow together pretty good. On both their albums, its like not just ONE SONG, its all of em combined. Thats why I love em so.
