My 1986 Toyota 4x4 truck is my dream hunting truck. I have always wanted one of these little trucks. I finally found one a few years ago on craigslist and ended up trading a kid my racing dirt bike for it. I have decided that it is time to restore this truck and bring it back to life. It is originally from a coffee bean farm in Venezuela which I think is super unique and has a crazy back story. I hope you all enjoy this video as much as I do this truck.

Coming from a Toyota guy, i say HELL YES! Them original Yotas are bad ass! I had an 86 4Runner as my first truck. That 4banger 22RE will run forever. They stretch timing chains pretty easily, but will keep on running while sounding like a mini cummins. Borla mufflers sound real good on that motor. The AC compressor is cheap and easy to replace. Keep an eye on the locking hubs, and make sure your transfer case linkage is well lubed, they tend to get bound up. I would raptor line it so you will have some longevity and durability.

Had a blue 1986 Toyota truck almost identical to that for my high school truck. Things are die hard. That 22R engine is amazing. Would go through almost anything we could throw at it. Looking forward to seeing it fixed up.

Use monstaliner it's a bed liner that alot of offroad people use to paint their whole vehicle because it come is so many colors including a safari tan like you suggested

Nothing can compare to a 80's-90's Toyota 4wd for hunting. Extremely reliable and easy to work on. You got good style!!

I love Toy's. Always owned one. Totally reliable, economical, good all-rounders. Will be wonderful seeing it brought back to life with a bit of TLC. Wrap it with your logo on the hood.

This is better than the Bisons :). As for color, I would say, do what you need to for rust protection, but I say keep it the same color-wise. It has character.

My first truck was a 1986 Toyota extended cab automatic. That thing wouldn't pull a greasy string out a cats ass! But I loved that truck but I ended up totaling it 10 months after I got it. Love that truck man!

If it's going to be a hunting truck it would be very smart to do LineX or Rynio line it all the way. Do the whole truck and you will never have to worry about scratches or anything.

Aye, gotta love old Yota's. I drive a moderately upgraded 08 Tacoma access cab as my daily. I have 4 single cabs that vary from 83 to 86 that I'm restoring and turning into bush/off-road units.

I used to own a 1981 Toyota 4x4 pick up... 4 cylinder with a header. The engine was rebuilt so the cylinders were bored out a bit. I could get 3rd gear scratch in it. My little Toyota was a beast off roading... It was definitely a fun truck... Hunted and fished out of it constantly.... If you like the color Mullet Man, spray a clear coat over it and play in that dude hard and have some fun....

Great video! Great that you are getting it back in shape! I think a tan/brown color scheme would look good. I agree with the comments below......a lift would make it look sharp!!! I don't think a big lift.......something to get it a little bit higher with a bit more attitude. I hope it works out and doesn't cost an arm and a leg!!!!!! Like this style of video too.....you do it well!

Bed liner is the way to ago. You won’t be disappointed. Just pressure wash all the mud and blood right off. Very hard to get scratched up, and protects it from rust.

I would either freshen up that paint or paint it and desert sand color. I would also have all the hubs or Bearings replaced. Do maybe a little 2-3in lift. I would mechanically make that that truck where it could go anywhere. Keep up the good work. I love watching your vids

Awesome truck. I'm was a Ford certified mechanic for twenty years. Toyota is bar none the best on small size. The 86 is a great year. Maybe swap out the independent front suspension for a straight axle (1985 and earlier)? It's not a cheap upgrade. Or at least a 6" lift and 36" tires. But definitely a locker in the front differential. I had a 89 & 92 extra cab. I also had a 89 forerunner ( I wish I never sold it). My best friend had a 86. We towed Jeep's up hills all the time (they were too light for the loose shale rock). I say olive drab rhino liner!!! Enjoy the truck.

Get it completely coated in line-x or some sort of bed liner especially since is a hunting truck and going to get scraped and stretch when it will be virtually indestructible

Got the same hunting truck. 85 strait axle 4" 33s 4:88 w/ e-locker. Take the whole thing apart and put it back together in a day with a crescent wrench if ya needed to. They're pretty much Bullet proof and there's a bunch of bolt on upgrades from various other Toyota models you can get cheap and find easy. Oh and the truck never never goes down in value. Couldn't pick a better hunting rig, in my opinion.👍

It's a cool choice for a hunting truck. I've had many of them and wished I would have kept them all. lol. I see some saying it needs a lift, but it doesn't. If you do larger tires, just put a set of 32x10/50's on it, no lift required. You can put 33X12/50's on it, but you have to crank the torsion bars up all the way and then it will ride like sh!t. 32x10/50's is good, because if you go larger then it would need to be re-geared. One thing I love about those trucks is you can put the transfer case in low without locking the front hubs, so you can have low 2wheel drive so you can just ideal around with no problem.

My 92 Toyota was indestructible, I literally got sick of it and sold it, but it never broke down . Pretty sure it was well over 300,000 miles and didn't blow oil or burn oil . Can't beat a 22R.

Yeah do a complete build on that bad boy, Would make a great series of vids, Such great trucks, I wish toyota would do a modern/retro version of them. Nobody makes those little basic 4 banger stick shift trucks anymore, perfect size for the woods and they go through about anything because they so light that they don't bury themselves in the mud as easy. You'll be pulling Rob and Outlaws trucks out when they get stuck hahaha.

Od green or flat dark earth bed liner spray the whole truck. Lift it. Toss a winch on it and fix the mechanical issues. Good to go

Way more practical then going out and spending 40 thousand plus on a new truck to take to the mountains and get scratched and dented up. When I'm driving down a trail with manzanita digging into the sides of my truck the last thing I want to worry about is my paint.

You should add a winch to the bed put some new leaf springs and tires to make it an even better little rig. I know people make coilover conversions as well if you wanted to go all out. Solid little hunting rig though its impossible not to respect those little yotas
