My ELECTRIC CAR will be the DEATH of me! These vehicles have dEVastating consequences! Are you asking yourself if Electric Cars are the future? Everywhere you look there's an advert or a commercial trying to push you into making your next new car an EV well maybe it's time to question why! Follow me on my journey in my All Electric Car to the GRIDSERVE Electric Forecourt - The Electric Car Charging Infrastructure of the future in Norwich and I'll show you my first hand experience of owning an Electric Car and why my EV will be the death of me. The Ban on the sale of Petrol and Diesel Cars in 2035 is fast approaching. The more of us that convert to Electric the more likely it will be that this will happen. The decision is yours...

The bigger issue is that most of us cannot afford these cars. Before the ban on the sale of new combustion engine cars in 2035 the price of the second hand market will increase. This is all a plan to reduce the amount of private ownership and force a large amount of the population onto public transport.

@@haitolawrence5986 You can do without a mortgage, but you must have a set of wheels. In my experience, young people will move Heaven and Earth to obtain a set of wheels and to keep it going. A number of years ago, I was passing the house of a young man that I knew and noticed two Ford Escorts parked on the drive, nose to nose, with their fronts jacked up and another Escort parked in the road. Two lads were on the lawn talking, the third not visible. I stopped to ask what the problem was. One of the lads on the lawn called "Hi" as he saw me getting out of my car. In answer to my question, he replied, "Oh ! Nutten' .... Treeve uz just bin M.O.T. Swappin' tyres back." Treeve appeared above the bonnets of the cars on the driveway to report that he was just tightening the last nuts.

I live in Romania and the average age of cars here is 16.9 years, second only to Lithuania at 17 years. Infrastructure for EVs is very poor unless you live in or very near a city. Filling stations for petrol and diesel cars outside cities are also few and far between so there are fewer sites where EV charging points could be installed. Although the EU has delayed the ban on sale of new ICE vehicles until 2035, in my opinion most Romanians and probably others in East European countries will be driving around in ICE vehicles for at least the next three decades.

The other thing to mention is if you have children asleep in the car on a long journey eg going on holiday in an EV you can't just go for a coffee or go shopping without piling the kids out with you but especially if you have a dog, you cant leave it in the vehicle or take it in with you . You could be an hour waiting to get on to a charger & then maybe another hour charging .. with petrol or diesel it's 5 minutes & off on your journey or you might not even have to stop at all.

I know a few EV drivers from both the UK and Europe and none have said they will buy another, unless it’s been forced upon them as business vehicles. All say it’s a complete nightmare to live with in reality. It’s exactly like you said. In a big city for pottering about on short journeys they make sense. But if you’re in provincial towns, rural or making journeys of any significance, then the whole thing collapses. A friend of mine in Norway works in Oslo during the week and lives in the country at weekends. Apparently about an hour outside of Oslo there’s a huge EV station with over 30 chargers yet every Friday evening there’s hours long queues waiting for a slot because it’s where everyone has to stop to charge. In other words, even when there’s huge investment in the infrastructure it can’t cope. In the UK I don’t think the ICE ban will ever happen. (A) Battery technology is really at the limit of Li-ion capability as we speak. And more importantly: (B)There isn’t anything like the capacity in the national grid to switch to even half the UK vehicles being EV. The economy would collapse overnight. No electable government is actually ever going to do that in the UK.

Its a bit if a scam. You are trapped in an area where you can only buy food or drinks, and for a longish length of time. Meanwhile, it only takes 5-7 minutes to fill & pay for fuel with another 3 minutes to grab a coffee. Your refuel was about 40 minutes minimum and only taking it to 89% full!

The airport car fire was DEFINITELY NO DIESEL FIRE. If it had been diesel burning there would have been massive black smoke from that diesel burning. The images show zero black smoke. Had diesel been burning it would have run onto the ground either rear near tank, but most likely from engine bay. There was no fire on the ground, massive flames from under floor on passenger side of the vehicle. Had it been diesel infact the fire would need alternative ignition source so engine bay would only place, but diesel itself is hard to ignite at other than very high temperatures. Unlike petrol diesel has natural high flash temperature, petrol has components that self ignite even at sub zero, diesel needs hot over + 60 deg as flash temp. But there are no high voltage ignition sources like petrol, high exhaust manifold temperatures could ignite diesel in rare circumstances, but liquidvdiesel spilling on manifild vapourises into blue oil fumes smoking away not igniting, in quantities needed for the fire in the airport case it would be visible and dripping to floor level, and as above if burning black sooty smoke. Other ignition source could be the normal 12V battery in the engine bay that could burn, and does on some cars with wiring faults, or internal battery shorts. Again evidence would have burning plastic dripping to floor and black smoke. Have seen several cars with 12v battery fires after accidents and two cases of random battery fires. All in 40 years of car development work and testing of prototype cars. Clear evidence of 12v battery burning, dripping burning plastic and clear engine compartment fire. The airport fire is centred at mid vehicle passenger side. Now as far as extinguishing that fire, had it been diesel sourced, the fire brigade could have easily xtinguished that using foam and/or powder extinguishing sources or even CO2. Water would not wash the fuel burning so they would not use that, but if used also would have been avoiding massive building destruction that resulted from that fire. That destruction of building and so many other vehicles is classic of an EV battery pack fire, that known fire fighting resource can put out, ALL such fires presently must be left to burnout. One method demonstrated planned for car transport on ferry and other large ships is chilled high pressure water flooding demonstrated recently in a video, from Norway as I recall. But not feasible for mobile fire brigade resources. A other interesting aspect of that airport fire is that the tail lights of the burning vehcle are ON, therebyy 12V battery, and wiring system of the vehicle arecstill fully functional, again not likely for a diesel fire. Also the carpark local fire extinguisher was already drained, when other people tried to use it, likely by the burning vehicle owners who were already gone, likly having tried using that extinguishers before running off find more or just getting away from the fire. As far as fires, China is having massive instances of EV fires presently, on especially the low cost local produced models, far above instances of higher quality batteries in EV types likes of Tesla, and other western companies keeping high quality standards. Sadly several European companies have been getting problems with several China built models, and using China manufactured battery pack units. Sadly I believe your Porsche model uses China battery pack, and a number of the VW, Audi models do too. "Recall on your Porsche due to faulty battery packs currently?"

I kind of agree 🤔having a small Ev for running around town, makes sense, but not for long distance where petrol or diesel should be used. I also think it’s the government’s fault we are in this situation 🤔they told us buy diesel it’s better for longevity and economy, all of a sudden it’s no good and all they can do is put prices of road tax,fuel duty, road congestion charges and ULEZ charges etc trying to out price motoring for the working class. Personally I don’t think I get value for my money from the road tax I’m charged every year which goes up year on year, the roads are in a shocking state of repair and when they do repair a section it’s done that shoddy it’s cracking and sinking within 12 months of being done, at the moment this country is the joke of the world

The biggest thing with the EVs when it comes to flammability is understanding what the battery comprises of. In the fire triangle we have 3 things: Fuel, Heat (Ignition) and Oxygen. The amount of heat required to cause auto-ignition of a fuel changes depending on the fuel and the amount of oxygen available for the reaction. Petrol (Gasoline) has an auto-ignition temperature of 247-280 Celsius and can be ignited by a spark (Generally when in a gas or a fine mist such as out of fuel injectors) and requires oxygen from the atmosphere to burn. Petrol has only 1 of the 3 corner of the fire triangle. This also means you can take away the heat OR the oxygen to put it out. Compare this to another ICE fuel, for racecars, Nitromethane. This fuel is banned from road use and by a lot of race organizations due to the dangers associated with it, one of the primary dangers is that it is self oxidizing. This means it also contains the oxidizer required to burn and is more unstable. You must remove to heat to extinguish this fire, smothering will not help as it can literally burn in space. Now lets cast our eyes to Lithium batteries used in EVs. These batteries contain both the fuel and the oxidizer, additionally they can enter thermal runaway due to damage (Heat, mechanical or electrical or faulting charging software) and therefore start generating very high amounts of heat internally. Lithium batteries contain both Fuel and Oxygen with the ability to readily produce Heat. They contain all 3 sides of the fire triangle. This is why they are impossible to extinguish and must be waited out. You cannot smother them and you cannot cool them as they will just heat up again all on their own. Simply put, if auto makers were to introduce a liquid fuel which was as inherently dangerous and unstable as a lithium battery? It would be banned, how can we say this with confidence? Because that has already happened the world over, just with less unstable fuels.

Door handles, parking brakes and parking pawls should be completely mechanical just for safety sake. Yes they do have electric lorries. I work for a well-known haulage company as a HGV driver. (i’ll give you a clue they have yellow lorries with red writing) Not going to mention them for legal reasons. They have recently acquired an EV Arctic lorry As far as I know. They are testing the technology from Volvo. Before I started, there were electric rigids however they don’t seem to be there now. Don’t know why. It is extremely quiet, which, for heavy goods vehicles can be a downfall due to the fact that people tend to ignore us on the road anyway. Or they are too occupied, trying to speed past us to Care. As you can imagine charge is the main problem with this vehicle. Or at least that’s what I’m hearing. I think they might have to consider overhead pylons to charge them as they’re running along the motorway. That’s the only way they’re going to get any satisfaction from them. Im not an EVangelist. Technology is not there yet not sure if it will ever be. However I’ll stay optimistic. Think there are many other practical technologies we can explore and I think it’s possible that we might be jumping into the fire, (pardon the Pun) before we have a chance to test them. But that’s just my opinion.

The reason why the people who drive petrol cars don't experience the same range anxiety as people with electric cars is because: If you run out of petrol, you just need a Jerry can, of gas, to get going. Running out, in an electric car, means an expensive tow, to the charging station.
@roccprofit

If they were serious about this EV thing then your charge points would be like gas stations with charger's instead of gas pumps with a canopy covering it and a a little store to get a coffee or water or whatever just like current gas stations do. You're exactly right. Instead what we have is a bunch of poor quality and poorly maintained and poorly thought out charge points in the weirdest of location's. I don't know about other countries, but I know in America most of those charger's were just thrown out there so the companies would be eligible for the government subsidies. I don't recall where it was built, but saw a story about the biggest charge point ever built some odd number like 48 charge points and we were promises it would all be solar powered and there's not a solar panel on site and it turns out they are powering it with 3 Diesel generator's that they tried to hide behind a shell station down the road a bit... That's not how serious people do such things. As near as I can tell in America this whole EV thing is just a Giant lie. The same companies telling you they are building nothing, but EVs are selling far more combustion car's then they are EVs... Ford motors and the Ford lot's in America are fighting because the company wants them to push EVs, but the lot's don't want more EVs because they can't sell the one's they have...we are supposed to pretend none of that is happening. Meanwhile EV fans tell us the companies are making load's of cash selling EVs and in finacial news all those companies are reporting huge looses because of trying to push EVs... It just keeps getting more and more ridiculous.

I have been subscribed Lee for a while now. Yes, I also have an EV and just use it for around town driving. It was my own choice to purchase it and "not for the greater good". So I have no problems with having range anxiety. Charge my vehicle at home when needed. Lee, I see your problems and agree. You do allot of long trips with your vehicle so it can run into problems finding chargers that work and possibly other issues while driving. You must have allot of miles on that vehicle now. So both of us do different types of driving and your style requires allot of extra planning. You still haven't told us if you are going back to a petrol vehicle and when that might happen. I would never threaten anyone for their views they have on what vehicle they drive. It is our choice what we want to own, try, and drive. You don't like EV vehicles, don't get one. No one is forcing us to buy just one type of vehicle. Gas vehicles will be around for a long time. I also still have my ICE 21 year old Monte Carlo which I enjoy. Anyway take care of yourself mate. I do agree with you , if an EV fits or suits you , go for it . But a 21st century economy cannot run on electric vehicles alone , it just isn't possible . Dr Paul Burgess , the Heartland Institute and a 1000 others can attest to that. Good luck with your EV though , may it give you years of reliable motoring , though I sadly think , 'they' don't want any 'car' ownership in general , Ev or Ice .

A new concept has been born with EVs, when selling second hand the price HAS TO take into account the COST OF A NEW BATTERY. Not only do they deteriate over time, a second hand car most likely will not have a warranty, so the slightest damage to the battery will mean an exorbitant priced replacement or SCRAP the car! The older they get the more this will kick in. EVs DO depreciate hughly in value, so carefull you don't get your fingers burned. And as for EV company cars, when companies start to lose a bunch of money, their policy will change. Last thing, why are insurance companies hiking premiums for EVs (that's IF they agree to insure)??
