They looked like they were finally going to develop this with Finn and blew it. He could have created a fifth column in the Empire among troopers he knew. They could have captured and tried to recondition him and we could have seen that process. So much material for real stories. Keep up the work! As a fan at least someone seems to get it!

Imagine if we got stormtroopers like this in Star Wars Rebels, would’ve given that show more depth in regards to showing the imperial side. Only one you can truly sympathize with is Kallus, whereas the Stormtroopers themselves are treated like jokes and given no defining qualities. But ultimately the goal of Rebels was just the formation of the Rebellion, so to that degree I could understand why the imperial side wasn’t humanized. Eh...I'd argue you could make a case for Thrawn too. Sure, he was a villain through and through, and was as ruthless as any other Imperial when the chips were down (albeit he was a pragmatist surrounded by sadists), but he represented THE model Imperial officer, the kind of leader that everybody in the Empire should have aspired to become. One could only imagine what the Empire would have ended up like if, somehow, Palpatine had died and he ended up in charge of it (or if Palpatine’s succesor had tasked Thrawn with developing a replacement for the Tarkin Doctrine after recognizing its flaws). Maybe the Galactic Civil War would never have happened - a rebellion of some sort would have still occurred, but it would've remained dispersed between isolated cells and never have grown into a large militarized force with a coherent, unified goal.
@Fi_Sci_
@Fi_Sci_ 3 года назад
@@z3r0_35 indeed you are correct, Thrawn is a man of principle, but when the situation demands it, he gets the job done. That isn't the point. The point is that of those ON the Death Star, like those ON Alderaan, only a handful were involved in any of what happened. Tarkin gave an order, one dude relayed it, and a few powered up the cannon and aimed. What did janitor Steve down on Deck Forty Two and is wife, Sarah, or Tom and Brady, their sons, have to do with it? Nothing at all. Hell, what did the third shift gunner in the exact position Tarkin's shooter was later on do? Nothing. They all died, though. That is the point. Aside from the Emperor and his direct circle, most Imperials were just people doing their jobs, trying to do what they THOUGHT was right. Hell, the Empire was many's first taste of real peace after the Clone Wars. It's easy for us to judge from the outside perspective, knowing the Clone Wars and the Civil War as near omnisciently as we do. But some twenty something from a world that was covered in war for most of his youth until the Empire ended it? He doesn't see that. he sees a lack of blaster bolts, and an Imperial flag.

@@Sujad Correct, It was technically a military target - however due to the amount of non-military personnel that was stationed there who had perished in addition to the combat personnel. Many of whom were civilian contractors. Liam would have came from somewhere that likely benefitted from or was less impacted by the Empire. Areas where the Republic had neglected or completely allowed to degrade while the war effort was focused on core systems and defending existing territory. As he mentioned as well, not every Imperial agreed with the methods of fighting the Rebellion (especially the decimation of entire planets) as it only drove more people to join the Alliance including some Imperials. But also, many Imperial joined because they wanted to avoid a repeat of the conditions that lead to the Clone Wars but also the death of so many people who they believed deserved to leave equally in peace and saw the flaws of the Grand Republic including the corruption that made it so bad and allowed the conflict to escalate and expand across the systems. Some certainly joined because they just wanted money and didn't care about the ethics of any of it- that goes for both factions. It's easier to deny the humanity of your enemy when you refuse to identify that they are human too, they are just different in ideological stand points or conditions that pushed them to join that faction - the armor makes troopers look like robots and no one sees them without helmets so it's far easier to kill them and never think twice about it.

@@solucaoatende Keep in mind the galaxy was in a state of chaos because of the Clone Wars and the Empire brought stability and safety where the Republic failed to do so. Albeit using oppressive means to do so. The Empire isn't necessarily good, but not all the people in it are bad.

@Wild Summit I agree the whole defection ordeal that happens is tiring. There needs to more depth to the most iconic bad guys in cinema. They are dedicated to what they do and they need more recognition for it and not have them be so damn watered down to be faceless goons lacking individuality and be completely ineffective at being threatening. Having a variety of perspectives is nice, we need more of that. But of course Disney already has a plan set in stone.
@wildfire9280
@wildfire9280 2 года назад
@@ramblinnernd5905 But then you run into the problem of false equivalences. The Empire’s cause is just… wrong. Despite being run by the galaxy’s most powerful manipulator with full autocratic control, it just refuses to be a force for good. It’s like it’s actively fighting against it, while the Rebellion at least gives it a fighting chance. The Empire *could* easily outdo the Republic in delivering a better galaxy for everyone, it just chooses not to. No wonder a bunch of former CIS systems joined the rebels, nothing has changed.

It's nice to see both sides have their legit reasons for fighting. Not every Imperial agrees with what's going on but they want to serve their galaxy.
