People need to realize and stop treating IMAX like a regular theater. Your normal theater practices aren't the same for IMAX. It's actually significantly better sitting in the front especially on a smaller screen. On a screen this size only row 2 or 3 is perfect in the middle because the seats in the theater seems to already start pretty far back. Your supposed to feel fully engulfed by the screen and have your peripheral vision blocked by screen and feel like your falling into it during panning shots. You don't get the true effect in the back. That's actually the absolute worse place to sit.

Ah yes, my favorite theater of all time. The AutoNation.

I saw the film twice at this theatre. I live in Orlando so we definitely had quite a drive. I first saw it opening weekend with my family and the film was PRISTINE. The 70MM shot portions were top notch and the entire experience was stellar. So I definitely had to come back a few weeks later. I brought my friends the second time and after a few weeks of the film reel being processed through the projection system I definitely noticed a wear and tear difference. Seeing the full frame shots was still a spectacle but if you wanna get a really good screening of a 15/70MM IMAX film, definitely try catching it within the first week before too much wear effects the film. Otherwise I’m hoping the AutoNation theatre re-releases some of Nolan’s films in this format. I would love to catch Interstellar or Dunkirk in 15/70

Great Video. I saw Oppenheimer at the same theater. It was an amazing experience. I had priority and got the middle of 4th row. I had the same issues with specks and dust. Digital laser imax had a 1.90 aspect ratio while the imax 70mm is 1.43. There is more noticeable image with the IMAX 70mm.

I live in Tampa and took the Amtrak Silver Star and Brightline to go see it. The little spec of dust is what ends up on the lens. Imax 70mm uses vacuums, which make the film sit flat against a lens, which does not exist on 35mm or conventional 70mm projection (those only have a bare hole in the film gate). This problem is specific to Imax. Occasionally a piece of dust from the film sticks to that lens. The Imax projectionist has to keep an eye for dusts like that. If they see it, they hit a button that activates a wiper on the lens, making the dust disappear. Also, when the image covers 1/3 of the screen, those scenes were shot on traditional 70mm film 5 perf. Imax is 70mm 15 perf. If you are not able to see 70mm Imax, 70mm screenings are just fine and are supposedly better (ask me if you want to know more about this).

Thanks for the information! I’m happy the specs of dust weren’t too distracting and didn’t happen often. Is there a particular reason they switched from the 5 perf to 15 perf for some shots?

@@JoelFrancoVlogs Yes, Imax film cameras are loud. Usually on those scenes, if the actors talk, they re record the lines in a studio booth. But, the advantage is the incredible resolution. 15 perf Imax negative with my calculations and Kodak spec sheet has a resolution of 17.5K (I shoot regular 16mm, which is around 2.5K). The resolution of prints will be slightly lower, as I found out with my own 16mm prints. This Imax print is probably around 10-12K on the 15 perf scenes. 5 perf 70mm has been around forever. It was used on Ben-Hur and used all the way til nowTarantino's Hateful 8. Those are similar to 35mm or 16mm quiet cameras. You can record dialog live on the actual set, without having re record like Imax. Since this movie is dialog heavy, it is not surprising that the majority is 5 perf 70mm.

@@JoelFrancoVlogsThe vacuum technology they use in the theatre is also used during filming, which makes the film camera loud. Any dialogue near the camera would need to be dubbed over, or else be filmed with a different camera.

I saw Oppenheimer on IMAX 70mm film at the Langley IMAX in British Columbia Canada. They didn’t have any trailers before the movie, they just started the movie when it was time for the presentation.

Never been in a Imax theater before ( I would actually go if there is a Imax theater in my city ) But that screen looks so huge!

I have never enjoyed my experience at that theater, I have to agree with your girlfriend. I preferred my viewing at AMC Pines.

that's a lie, if you were in the very front it's not a bad time at all

Don't listen to this person. IMAX in the front row is terrible. Thats why those seats are left last, Source I got stuck at an IMAX showing in the front row.

Nolan shot with different formats on purpose. Do your research. Your friend has no idea what she’s talking about.

I didnt see it in IMAX but i dont think the film is particularly suited to IMAX. Its a conversational film.

The visual effects looked great on the bigger screen, especially the Trinity Test! I’d say it’s worth it for that alone.

My opinion is that more films need to be shot for IMAX. Even if this film didn’t need to be shot in it, it definitely benefits. The ending _in particular_ sticks out for me in IMAX.

Well I do think the OP has a certain point.... lets put it this way. Out of all the Nolan IMAX films this would be dead last to benefit from IMAX. I've seen every Nolan IMAX 70mm film since Dark Knight in 2008.

Christopher Nolan hyping this up was just trash, here's why, sure for some scenes like the explosion & the build up to it & a few other scenes IMAX 70mm was amazing, but for the majority of the film it was unneeded as it was mostly dialogue & it also switched aspect ratios a ton for no reason, if you got cash to spend then go see it in Imax 70mm, if you don't then watch it normally or if you really can't afford it then just w8, there is only one scene that felt like you needed to watch on a big screen.

If i saw this vid earlier, i would definitely recommend seeing this movie in any format on National Cinema Day 2023 for just $4 when Imax 70mm it was near $30 on the regular

pov you have no idea how film works. the movie switches between imax 70mm and 70mm because imax 70mm cameras are EXTREMELY loud while filming
